THE FIRST TIME WITH... SERIES 11 - 2. BOBBY GILLESPIE (320kbs-m4a/130mb/57mins)
BBC Radio 6 Music broadcast: 20th February 2018
Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie shares his musical milestones with Matt Everitt in a programme first broadcast in 2016.
Primal Scream have constantly evolved since their formation in Glasgow in 1982. They've been a jangle pop outfit, 60s Stones obsessives, psychedelic rave music pioneers, krautrockers, trip hoppers, industrial noise merchants and most things in-between.
Bobby remembers the country, western and blues music that inspired him as a child and the incredible impact that punk rock had on him (especially the Sex Pistols and the Clash), which eventually that led to the formation of Primal Scream following his brief tenure as the drummer with the Jesus & Mary Chain.
He also explains how Primal Scream's immersion in the rave culture of the 80s gave birth to the classic album, Screamadelica, and how the band's drug problems nearly ended their career.
