Since the age of seven, Chris Hicks’ only passion has been playing guitar. He created his first band when he was 14 and has been a shooting star ever since. Heading up The Loose Change Band from 1980 through 1988, Chris developed his distinctive style and grabbed the attention of listeners across the country. The legendary Outlaws recruited Chris in 1989. He captivated a rapidly expanding coterie of supporters with smoldering hot guitar work, powerful blues vocals and expressive songwriting. Chris played on and contributed songs to the Outlaws releases, “Hittin' The Road Live” and “Diablo Canyon.” He returned home to produce his first solo album, “Funky Broadway” which was nationally distributed by Ichiban Records. Soon after its release Chris was sought out by The Marshall Tucker Band. His signature licks and heart-pounding vocals fused perfectly with the band’s unique sound and can be heard on their latest release, “Face Down In The Blues.” Having gained a solid reputation as a well-respected solo artist, he continues to create a unique musical experience best described as “soulfully inspiring.”

Chris' talent and ability to provide an original and versatile sound has landed him opening spots for The Atlanta Rhythm Section, Jefferson Starship, .38 Special, The Charlie Daniels Band, Edgar Winter, Eddie Money, REO Speedwagon and several multi-band tours. His song, “Love Is On The Line,” was featured in the film Fast Food, starring Jim Varney. His song “Blues Got Me Down,” was hand-picked by Taxim Records to appear on their European blues compilation, “Peach State Blues.” The record also highlights Chris’ lead vocals on Barry Richman’s “Here Again.” His work also includes several television and radio commercials, a motivational tour, and numerous guest appearances both on stage and in recording productions for various artists.

The new millennium finds The Chris Hicks Band hard at work recording tracks for album number two and... back on the road, blazing with the force, spirit and music his fans have come to know and expect.

To be so young, Macon, Georgia’s Chris Hicks has been around the Southern Rock block a few times -- and in a big way. Chris Hicks 2008 Dog Eat Dog World

Chris Hicks has been brandishing his style of rock and roll since his teens. Whether it was in his early groups - Legacy, the Fresh Figs and Loose Change - or with southern rock legends the Outlaws and the Marshall Tucker Band... or as a solo artist, The Hitman has captivated audiences with his netherworld vocals, arena echoing axmanship and his freight train harmonica playing. He's a compelling songwriter of the first order. He's Toy Caldwell and Ronnie Van Zant rolled into one. He is southern rock royalty in the making - and if anyone doubts that, I challenge you to catch his act... for it is the stuff legends are made of!

Chris Hicks 1996 Funky Broadway

Funky Broadway, Chris' first solo album, was recorded in Macon, Georgia in 1996. First released in late 1996 on Walden Records, it was re-released by Ichiban/Sonova Beach records in 1997. The CD was co-produced by Chris and long time MTB producer Paul Hornsby. Had it been released on the Capricorn label... say n about 1975 I think it would have been a mega-hit among southern rock fans, but unfortunately it came out about 20 years too late to ride the wave of southern rock's hey day. But make no mistake - it is a classic album. It showcases Chris' incredible writing talents - not to mention his voice and guitar prowess.

Down in Dixie blows the roof of the house with it's rollicking kick ass attitude. If this ain't a show stopper I don't know what is. Had he opened the show for Skynyrd in '77 he woulda stole the show! Believe in Forever is a sultry southern ballad that warms the soul like high noon on a summer day. Keepin' Up With the Jones' is about as funky a number as any white boy could play. If those don't make you want to boogaloo then you best get a check-up! One More Time lays down a serious groove with some serious bottom by the rhythm section on a song about wanting to hit it one more time before she moves on down the road. Blues Got You Down is a song you're gonna want to turn up loud enough to rattle the walls! Chris has often been compared to Gregg Allman and songs like this are the reason why. Chris loves his funk and it's exemplified in Nothin' I Wouldn't Do. He slows it down again with This Is Now, a perfect song for rollin' down the windows on a late warm spring day. It's reminiscent of much of his work from his Loose Change LP. And there's no reason it couldn't be a hit today if only a major label would back it... Can't Live in the Past picks up the tempo and is another example of his affinity for R & B. The final song, Leave It All Behind, features Chris at his acoustic best. An optimistic ballad featuring backing vocals by Chris' fellow Outlaw, Hughie Thomasson, it rounds out an album that should have put Chris in the upper echelon of southern rock's greatest singer/songwriter/guitarists. It's only fitting that he has taken the reins of MTB, because in time - and given the chance - he someday should be held in as high of regard as Toy Caldwell. - Craig Cumberland
