Dutch Tilders 1976 Working Man

Genre: Blues

Australia Netherlands

Singer, guitarist, harmonica player and songwriter Matthew "Dutch" Tilders has been one of Australia's foremost blues and roots performers since the 1960s. He is one of the many prominent Australian musicians who came to this country during the era of post-WWII migration; as his nickname implies, Dutch was born in the Netherlands in 1941.

In 1976, having only heard Dutch's recordings, B.B. King assumed that he was black. Dutch and Brownie McGee became good friends simply because Browney believed that the Dutchman was a genuine bluesman, regardless of his racial origins.

Dutch's third LP, WORKING MAN (Eureka, 1976) featured another all-star backing group -- blues harp maestro Jim Conway (Captain Matchbox), Kerryn Tolhurst and John Bois (Country Radio, Dingoes), Ray Arnott (Spectrum), and Jeff King (Foreday Riders).

Dutch Tilders 2005 Mine & Some I Adopted

Genre: Blues
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 01:06:24
Size: 151,96 MB

Australia Netherlands

Dutch Tilders, Australia’s most prominent and long serving Bluesman, has released a new album through Black Market Music titled Mine And Some I Adopted. The album finds Tilders recording solo with just an acoustic guitar for the first time in his extensive career.

“I had wanted to record solo ever since my first album. I needed to do it. Just me and my guitar - this is how I love to play. Mine And Some I Adopted puts me right there in your living room,” reflects Tilders.

The album presents Tilders at his best - bold and laconic with a mischievous attitude. Tilders’ rich vocal timbre carries the weight of his years as a travelling Blues musician. Filled with skilled guitar work, the album emanates warmth and humour as Tilders takes the listener with him on his adventures. Interspersed throughout his originals are Bessie Smith’s Nobody Knows You (When You’re Down And Out), the traditional House Of The Rising Sun, Ray Charles’ Them That’s Got and Big Bill Broonzy classics, all exhibiting Tilders distinct style.

Born in the Netherlands in 1939, Dutch Tilders (whose real first name is Matthew) emigrated to Australia with his family in 1955. Mine And Some I Adopted is his 14th album.

His musical longevity and talent has earned him a legendary status. The Elder Statesman of the Blues has a passion for the genre that is burning as bright as ever. (http://www.blackmarketmusic.com.au/)

Dutch Tilders 1972 Dutch Tilders

Genre: Blues
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:40:43
Size: 93,22 MB

Australia Netherlands

For over a decade Dutch Tilders has been singing and playing the blues.

In this time he has gone from strength to strength. When I first met him he had an interest in Big Bill Broonzy. Over the years this has broadened into a deep involvement with the blues. Like all good bluesmen he has absorbed the many facets of the music from the post war electric sounds back to the 'down home' country blues.

This is what we hear on this album. There are influences that recall many of the great blues artists of the past, both well known and obscure. As they did, Dutch has drawn on his backgrounds and over the years, has envolved his own individual style.

The quality of Dutch's music has always been one of his deepest concerns. As his repertoire has grown, so has his own personal approach. A few words added or changed here, a musical phrase altered there, the final result being the emergence of a logical style of the blues performed in the Mississippi, Tennessee and Carolinas tradition.

More than this, Dutch has applied his own life experiences to his music. This is what gives his blues the final conviction that they carry; but then the blues does not lend itself to frauds. His selection of sympathetic musicians to accompany him here is another aspect of the thoroughness of Dutch's approach to the music which he feels so completely.

Here then is Dutch Tilders. Don't ever let him hear you say that the blues are dead or that white men can't sing them.

Dutch Tilders & The Blues Club With Geoff Achison 1993 Live At The Station Hotel

Genre: Blues
Rate: 128 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 01:08:32
Size: 62,60 MB

Australia Netherlands

Dutch Tilders bought his first guitar in 1959 and by the early 60's was gigging in a number of Melbourne coffee houses. Improvising most of his songs as he went along he found the blues was the perfect vehicle for him to express his feelings. With no immediate mentor he soon developed a unique and original style that was almost entirely self taught.

In 1972 he made his first record with collaborators Brian Cadd, Phil Manning, Barry Sullivan, Barry Harvey, Laurie Pryor and Broderick Smith and it was released the following year. A year later he started recording for the independent 'Eureka' label and consequently cut two direct to disc recordings with Jimmy Conway and Kevin Borich.

During the 70's Dutch fronted such seminal blues and boogie bands as the 'Elks', the 'Cyril B Bunter Band', and 'Mickey Finn'. In 1980 he formed the 'R & B Six', a band that included Charley Elul (drums), Peter Frazer (sax), Suzanne Petersen (flute and vocals), Mick Elliot (guitar) and Dave Murray (bass and vocals). They toured Australia extensively. In the meantime Dutch also worked solo and toured with John Mayall, Taj Mahal, Brownie McGee and Sonny Terry.

Legend has it B.B. King thought Dutch was black after hearing him perform when back stage awaiting to perform next, without yet seeing him in 1976. Whilst Brownie McGee became one of his best friends - simply because he believed the Dutchman was a genuine bluesman, regardless of his racial origin.

Since then Dutch Tilders has been honoured with many awards, most notedly for his performances with his band 'The Blues Club'. Today he mostly performs solo; although he often combines with Geoff Achison doing amazing duo chops. Dutch also likes to join forces with Kenny Hatton and Rob O'Toole, forming a group he calls 'His Blusicians'. (http://www.mmusic.com.au)

The recordings Dutch made with the legendary combo The Blues Club have become treasured by Australian blues enthusiasts. The Station Tavern in Prahran, Victoria became a blues Mecca for several years in the 1990's as Dutch and The Blues Club (feat. Geoff Achison: guitar) set up a packed to the rafters weekly residency. This album captures the excitement, the fun and the impeccable artistry of Dutch and his band as they power through over 70 unforgettable minutes of classic blues. (http://www.cduniverse.com)
