Blue Floyd 2008 Begins

Blue Floyd consists of Gov’t Mule bassist Allen Woody along with their drummer Matt Abts. One time Black Crowes guitarist Marc Ford, as well as, Allman Brother’s bassist Berry Oakley are also in the lineup. Johnny Neel takes over on keyboards. Their new 2008 album Begins will be released on Airline Records. It’s flat out the best bunch of covers of Floyd yet. In fact, the musicianship is so good they really transcend themselves above being just a cover band. On the two bonus tracks(Beatles songs Come Together & Taxman), Slick Aguilar, who did session work for David Crosby and Jefferson Starship, plays lead guitar. Blue Floyds versions of Floyds Fearless and Set The Controls for the Heart of the Sun are really stand out and their Hey You/Another Brick in The Wall medley is nicely haunting. The guitar sounds as if it’s actually Gilmour jamming away. Pink Floyd meets Southern Rock! Very highly recommended for all Floydians.

Pink Floyd 1971-10-17 Convention Hall, Community Concourse (New Mown Grass)

Pink Floyd 1971-10-17 - Convention Hall, Community Concourse, San Diego

"New Mown Grass" PinkRoioShn-CDR-008 (PRS-CDR-008)

What you now have in your possesion is quite possibly the greatest live Pink Floyd performance ever captured. CwtAE and FOS are amongst the best renditions I have ever heard.

The rest of the show is absolutely stellar as well but CwtAE and FOS steal the show. Gilmour and Rick were exceptional on this night and they're playing on these two tracks is enough to make you shed a tear.

I am pleased to present to you a speed and pitch corrected version of this event in history.

Previously this tape was out of pitch and the speed was a bit slow. I have corrected this. And now for the disclaimer... I do all my speed and pitch adjustment by ear only and not with the use of comparing against other shows or individual tracks or any crazy tools. I do not guarantee the speed or pitch to be completely accurate, this is basically my interpretation of the way I have always wanted this show to sound. No remastering was applied to this at all (as if it needs any).

I would also like to give a shout out to Mr. Simpson for originally transferring this gem from the Hi-Fi source and clarifying the lineage for us. This was previously circulating under 1st gen Hi-Fi but has been determined not to be the case. The master tape had been lost soon after the event and the taper was left with only his 1st gen backup which all other versions of this show come from in one way or another.

I sincerely advocate the use of substances while listening to this ;-)

Pink Floyd 1975 Echoes From The Past - Platinum Edition

An incredible audience show from the Sports Arena in Los Angeles, California on April 26, 1975. This is the complete master tape source, so complete that you here the taper testing the mics as the show starts. The sound is nothing short of astounding. Incredibly clear and quite devoid of almost any fan noise. The bass is well captured, deep and powerful with no distortion whatsoever. The highs are also very crisp and not the least bit of harshness. In other words, the mix is just about perfect as if it were a soundboard. I think I have a good idea who taped this show and it explains a lot.

There are a few things that make this recording truly unique. First, the pre-release versions of Sheep (Raving and Drooling) and Dogs (You Gotta Be Crazy). Raving and Drooling is much different instrumentally during the jam sections than is the album version, including some rhythm guitar that sounds like disco-funk! The lyrics to You Gotta Be Crazy are quite different from the album version of Dogs. Even Roger calls it a rather "mean" song. "Any Colour You Like" is the great jam version and this is the last tour with performances of "Echoes" in its entirety. All and all this recording is absolutely amazing for its age and one that you will definitely want in your collection.

There are many Pink Floyd RoIOs out there. Most of them are audience recordings and pretty diffcult to listen to. This one, however, has to be the best audience recording of an old Floyd show ever. This rivals the Boston Garden show for quality, IMHO. If your a Floyd fan, don't miss this one!

Pink Floyd 1971 Hamburg 1971-02-25

Genre: Progressive Rock
Rate: 320 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 01:36:32
Size: 220,70 MB

This is the holy grail of pink floyd recordings of indeterminate origin.

M-502 is the matrix number of the original 2-LP vinyl set that was made in europe sometime in the (late?) 70's. Although there are many different versions of this show, all of them are sourced from a M-502 vinyl copy. Some sound better than others, none of them sound anything like this (Take Linda Surfin' was a popular one).

This 2-CDR set comes from a mint condition original LP, and has been beautifully remastered by the Digital Floyd Archives. Not only is this one of the best sounding recordings (especially of this era), this is one of the best vinyl remastering jobs I have ever heard.

A complete show recorded on July 1st 1988 in Vienna - Praterstadion.

Quality is excellent. It is interesting that they did a complete cover of 'On The Road Again' during the soundcheck.

There is a slight cut between 'ABITW' and 'Comfortably Numb', nicely faded, probably due to a tape change.

Notes:

Although this concert is well known and has appeared on more than one bootleg and has been issued by at least one Floyd group, this is taken from a first generation cassette directly dubbed from the master. This came to me on DAT from a highly respected and influential Canadian Hendrix collector who got this and several other Canadian concerts from the group of guys who used to go out of their way to record the bands in town. Of course he got his copies from their masters back in the days when the only way of doing things was to transfer to cassette. When we moved into the digital age he kindly sent me this on DAT, directly from his 1st generation tapes.

Speed was a bit fast on this release. Adjusted speed -4.1% and aligned to sector boundaries. [Spectre]

Pass It On.
