When you listen to this third JR Band-album, you hear more feeling, more emotion, more groove in the songs. Although music of the JR Band is Rock 'n' Roll at its best, J(an) R(ijbroek) puts his full soul in the 9 songs. Not surprisingly though that this record is dedicated to his friends who passed away.

Great rockers like "Baby Get Down" and "Nothing To Loose" are present, but also listen to the simplicity of "At The End Of The Day": a 7 minutes-song in which JR sings with restrained passion. A great slow blues with a steamy, swampy theme, almost ready to relax! And listen to the the Richie Sambora-rocker "If God Was A Woman", sung by Peter Cook in duet with JR, as well as the Neil Diamond-cover "Love On The Rocks" also sung by Peter Cook. JR decided to put them on the album because they're classics from the JR Band gigs, and so always were played live. They do the album very good.

"For Absent Friends" is written in the studio and is a last farewell to their friends who passed away. And what a contrast: Lee Clayton's melancholy "A Little Cocaine" is an almost Amsterdamlike song with it's accordeon. It's something JR always wanted to record and he did it very well!

Heavy guitars in "I Wanna Make Love To You" and again in duet with Peter Cook, they give some power! To end with "Come Rain Come Shine". A hommage to the fans: "Thanks for the support and see you at our gigs!" With their new drummer Franky "Mr. T.N.T." the JR Band hasn't lost anything of their power.

In my opinion this album is more mature than "the real McCoy", their previous album. So, it took a long time to have the new one in my hands but it's more than worth it!! (Clemens Steenweg)

Rock 'n' Roll that comes straight from the heart!

8 great songs on this album, some full of power, some full of emotion. The typical high, vibrating voice of Jan Rijbroek (he sang in the Elvin Bishop Band in the late 80's) fits extremely well with the melodic heavy music. Of course, the guitar is the #1-instrument (quote JR: "My guitar is a mature woman. I have to hear her scream and complain, when I manhandle her!"), but the Hammond is also nicely present. Keyboardsman Professor Frankenstein knows how to handle it. Together with Peter Cook (bass, ex Motors, Bram Tschaikovsky) and Edwin Spacemarine (drums, percussion) the JR Band is an experienced whole (an average of 160 gigs a year, throughout the world(!)).

Highlights on the album are: "Break Away", "Can't Blame The Boy" (great lyrics!), the 15 minutes dramatic "Deathroll" and "The Loner".

But most of all you've got to see them "ALIVE"! You won't be disappointed! The energetic show you see on stage, you can't hear on the album. (http://www.classicrock-startpage.com/jrbandtherealmccoy.html)

JR Band 1998 My Way Or The Highway

We write down the year 2000, the new century has started and the JR BAND is running faster, bigger and better. An average of 120 gigs per year, well received through Europe, what am I saying....over the Globe! The JR BAND is very close to being a cult, with loyal fans, that will follow them where ever they go.

Of course, they have done supports for: ALLMAN BROS., ZZ TOP, SLASH, SIMPLE MINDS, WHITESNAKE, etc., and worked together on projects with : CHUCK BERRY, NAZARETH, the ANIMALS, B.B.KING and the horn section of TOWER OF POWER.

And J.R. was the singer with the Elvin Bishop Band in the late eighties.

But most of all they are the public’s favourite, a band that (with a lot of success and enthusiastic stage presence) lightened up many festivals, playing their perfect togetherness. Or to speak with the words of “BIG AL” (DJ. and rock VIP) :

JAN AND HIS BAND ARE THE LAST ROCK & ROLL GYPSIES THAT HOLLAND HAS GOT, SO LET’S PAY SOME RESPECT TOWARDS THESE GUYS, THEY DESERVE THE NAME:

“ THE HARDEST WORKING BAND IN SHOWBIZZ ”

They played such an energetic set for the Spanish T.V., that the following 2 weeks tour sold out. The first CD: “MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY” sold over 10.000 copies and was well received by the press. Something that is really special, considering they had no major record deal backing them up. (http://www.screenwerk.de)
