By Request
This is John Norris's Introduction to the Seven Years War article (Part 1) from Wargamer's Monthly magazine. So far it is uncertain that there ever was a part two, which is a shame as it would have covered the figures, rules and books available in 1977 for this conflict.

There's none like these....
I don't think there will be any more of these anywhere in the world...
These are Lamming SYW figures - I think they started out as Prussian Cuirassiers - definitely cuirassiers, anyway. I got them a while ago, before I bought the Lamming display figures at auction. They had been converted for use as standard bearers, with swords and carbines removed. So I replaced these and painted them for use as British Cavalry or Dragoons for my '45 project.
So I have sort of restored them to near how they would have looked, but the swords and muskets will be different as will the uniform. In spite of my usual basic paint job I like them quite a lot and they make a flexible unit (or units). They are based individually on 20x40mm MDF bases from ERM and then movement trays from Warbases.

Something Old School - Grant on Minden
The Wargamers Yearbook 1966/7 contains this lengthy (ish) article by Charles Grant on a refight of Minden, which should be of interest to devotees of The War Game/Charge way of doing things.
I haven't been able to check but I think the "Visitor" will have been Brigadier Peter Young and his"local chief of staff" the young CS Grant.
I've always felt that, due to the sources I have available for Vintage Wargaming, Charles Grant is under represented on this blog and I'm glad to have the opportunity to redress the balance a little.

Mystery solved?
Earlier posts on Vintage Wargaming here and here referred to the Lamming Seven Years' War range, about which little information exists other than that they were definitely in production in December 1970 and no longer in production by January 1972.
I have never seen any lists for this range or any photographs of them. Thanks to Paul in Oz these pictures show a possible sighting. The clue is the Easter Island face. Does anyone recognise this figure, or have any further information on this figure or the range?

Minifigs S Range Seven Years War
Over on the Lone S Ranger blog I have posted some information on these figures. There are a number of figures which I have not been able definitely to identify, and there are also a fair number for which I have no pictures. If you know this range quite well, or maybe even have figures from it, I would be grateful if you e a look at the blog and pass on any further identification help you may be able to give.

The Battle on the River Elbow: Seven Years War, by David Barnes
This Seven Years War battle report by David Barnes appeared in Wargamer's Newsletter No 202 in January 1979. It is a good example of his illustations, including maps, portraits, and vignettes from the action.
