One Is Snail Ten is Crab Math
We read One is a Snail Ten is a Crab and used creature counting cards from scholastic.com to create our own addition problems by counting feet.
Mister Seahorse
We read Mr. Seahorse and a non-fiction book about seahorses. Then we created a sea horse with watered down glue and tissue paper. We also wrote sentences about seahorses.
Ocean Research
We read non-fiction books from the pebble book series. I have found that these are the best non-fiction book for Kindergarten students because they are not too hard to read and they have quite a few word wall words in them. Then we used a pre- writing sheet made by Deanna Jump to collect 3 facts about our animal. We painted our hand prints to create our animals and used crayons to create the setting. I worked with the students in small groups to create sentences about their ocean animal.
Ocean Nouns and Verbs
We read the big book A Splash in the Ocean and learned that a noun is a person place or thing and about action verbs. We made a list of nouns and verbs from the story and then we made our own sentences using a ocean animal as the noun and an action they could do as the verb.
