I was honestly very much bored listening to the story and the best thing about the audiobook was hearing Streep read the novel. I frankly didn't care about the characters or anything about Duke. Also, Joe was kind of too okay with the Duke thing?
I can't say I had high expectations for this book but I always enjoy a good audiobook of a family drama. However, there wasn't much drama in the present, only the story centering on one person from the past. I wasn't invested in the plot at any point in this audiobook. I should've finished it already but I just couldn't bring myself to hit the play button.
Many loved Tom Lake, however. And Meryl Streep is the narrator. I honestly don't like saying it's me probably, not the book. It's not me, it's just not for me. Statistically speaking given the feedback though, you'll probably end up liking the novel....more

Not just India but other countries around the world. I truly liked how the author showed the bad and the good in the country. Also, how horrifying. I wanted to know what's going to happen and who'll be next. Unfortunately, the story took a turn I wasn't expecting and it's something that is a BIG no for me in mystery books. Especially when it's one of the big reveals at the end. There was no warning of this (because it would've been a spoiler). Moreover, for a book about Daisy Darker, I felt that I know little about her by the end. ...more

I still haven’t decided what to think about this book. The writing is gorgeous. Numerous quotes you can get from this book. Solid idea. A well architected world. Also a book that is truly about books, how exhilarating is that.
But The pace was off. I didn’t mind the slow pace during the middle part unlike many but I’m contrast to the end, the revelations could’ve been better styled. It’s like I was running at the end from a reality to another and not in a very smooth way. The characters were decent but the romance wasn’t good. It would’ve been so much better if the link was friendship and then later on a romance developed. I won’t say much about this because it’s linked to major spoilers but the idea remains that it wasn’t well executed. Or even needed....more

The Younger Wife is about a dysfunctional family where everyone has secrets. I liked Rachel best but overall all, the three female leads were okay and I was able to see their perspectives for the most part. Not going to say much about this book because the “secrets” are fairly straightforward so better discover them while reading. It does contain some trigger warnings though, so I suggest you look those up first if it’s something you usually do (I won’t list them in case I miss any).
The audiobook was well narrated and I was easily able to keep track of the story once I read the book summary. I’d give if a go if you’re into family dramas. It’s not the best/most memorable but it’s enjoyable, especially on a long drive since the audiobook is just 9 hours (and if you speed it up, which I did, you can finish it faster)....more

3.5 stars rounding it up to 4.
I chose to read this book because of the good reviews it received from most of my GR friends. It's more of a psychological thriller than anything. As a result, it can be slow. We had two major plot twists at the end that I didn't see coming.

I really really wanted to like this book. Regardless, I couldn’t. I was bored to tears listening to the audiobook. The characters failed to grab my empathy and the book certainly failed in securing my interest. I truly don’t understand the hype. I rarely rate books 1 star anymore but I listened to every minute of this novel all while continuously hoping it's going to improve. It didn't. If you are also having a difficult time reading this book and finding it tedious, it's not worth making it to the end. You can read the synopsis online and that'll do because if it didn't hold your attention by 30%, nothing will change by the end of the book....more

I finished it very fast considering the free time I had. I even read some of the chapters, especially towards the end. I couldn’t stay focused on mystery audiobooks before. Not anymore! Sure, I don’t claim to be able to keep track of all the detail and side characters (which would affect my choosing the killer) but I am enjoying the tension since I tend to skip lines when something “suspenseful” is taking place to reach the end result and then go back. In audiobooks, I can’t do that.
Now I am sure you are more interested in this book than my take on mystery audiobooks. So here’s the deal. Many compared it to other books/movies I haven’t read so I can’t judge its originality. What I can say is that the premise alone was very good. It grabs your attention right away. You can't help but wonder what will happen next and what happened throughout the previous two years. Sadly, it drags towards the middle and becomes repetitive writing-wise.
And Liz isn’t the best MC. She was even mediocre for a mystery book lead (and I don't hold those to high standards). The narrator didn’t help since her imitation of Liz’s voice was terrible. You get used to it, yes, but when we switch between PoVs, the change in the voice surprised me every time. I won't get into her questionable behaviour because as many fellow reviewers mentioned, her actions weren't the smartest. Moreover, I didn't root for her. I was only interested in finding out what happens plot-wise and didn't care if she was caught by the police for example.
Other than the weird narration for Liz's chapters, the audiobook was well enough. The reading pace was slower than average but we can always speed it up so it's okay. I'd recommend this book if you're looking for an addicting story. If you want high-quality thriller, however, look elsewhere. The writing style was weak and the characters weren't the best....more

This was such a good book dealing with an important topic, women in science, in well executed way. It will make you sad, concerned, smile, and well, furious. Highly recommended and yes, the audiobook is terrific. You can give it a go because the narrator told the story as a character (not in a cringe way) and not just as an outsider.

I randomly picked the audiobook since it was available on Libby and the summary sounded interesting. And the book honestly was. The writing was light and scene was set right. Hence, I found the audiobook gripping unfortunately, the ending ruined what could’ve been a 4 stars read to a more of 2.75 one. It’s not open ended, it’s abrupt as if a chapter is missing. And that’s not okay, especially in this genre.
Story wise, it’s fun. Character wise, it’s meh. There was no character development, maybe Krissy a bit. I wanted to know more about some characters like la Jace but overall, none were memorable. Honestly, in this genre I care more about the plot than the characters because it’s the mystery elements that interest me the most but a little more depth to the MCs would’ve been appreciated,
The audiobook however is great! I’d give it the green light if you were considering listening to the audiobook....more
