This was a good read. I like the idea of the romance set in post-apocalyptic times. The characters on their own were all very strong and interesting. This was a good read. I like the idea of the romance set in post-apocalyptic times. The characters on their own were all very strong and interesting. If I had to pick a favorite I'd say that Dan won me over here. He is so amusing and just a big tough BAMF. Yum.
I like Ali and Finn as characters as well but the ménage didn't really work for me as much as I was hoping it would. I thought that it happened too fast and I really like to see menages where all the characters are involved with each other, not ones where the men revolve around the woman and aren't emotionally and physically involved with each other. Ali is the center here so for me a big chunk of the story isn't really touched on.
The storyline was a decent one. It would have worked better for me as a m/f with Ali and Dan. I loved Finn's character and would have enjoyed to see him find a different HEA. Still this is a great concept and I hope to read further adventures of the survivors. ...more
We have the start of a really intriguing series here. The planet Kithra has been essentially destroyed by a series oI love sci-fi romance. Love them.
We have the start of a really intriguing series here. The planet Kithra has been essentially destroyed by a series of mysterious explosions that has basically killed the vast majority of the Kithran's on planet (only a handful on planet survived) and left the planet isolated and inhabitable.
I'm looking forward to future books exploring the origins of these mysterious explosions. I have my own theories so we'll see how those jib with the upcoming books.
Access to the planet is limited through one ship with a particular type of metallic hull that can survive hits from the debris surrounding the planet resulting from the explosions.
I love how this isolates the three characters of the book: Lux, Kol and Egan. No Devil's threeway here. ;) Kol and Egan have history, a pretty tragic and touching history, and I loved reading how these two men work through it and come to terms with their attraction. There's no third wheel here, Lux is full partner here and holds her own with each man.
For a shorter story, we really get a complete picture of each character and the history of the planet. I find some sci-fi romance can get lost in technospeak but I didn't feel that here. There's solid world-building and futuristic concepts that don't overwhelm the core romantic relationship. The chemistry of all these characters are unique to each bond but very complimentary and really, really hot. I'm intrigued with Kithra, there's so much devastation associated with it and it's grim but never hopeless but I like this concept of regeneration. ...more
While this story worked for me I had some issues with the gender bending alien which is usually a concept I love reading about. I know the fo3.5 stars
While this story worked for me I had some issues with the gender bending alien which is usually a concept I love reading about. I know the focus of the story was more on Jarana and her issues but I just felt that due to that focus the relationship of Eric and Maska didn't have the depth I was hoping to read about.
Here we have a man and woman in a relationship and in the blink of an eye the woman becomes a man. Fascinating! I just felt that the dynamics of that relationship and Eric's response to it didn't get enough airplay. Eric out of all the characters was more a mystery to me and while he seemed to be the one easiest able to deal with the changes around him, I wished we could have had more drama on his part. Maybe drama isn't the best word but I really wanted to delve more into his feelings regarding Maska's change and how that influenced their relationship.
I think for me it's because the Eric and Maska/woman relationship takes place off page. I almost wish that the change hadn't happened so quickly, that we could have seen Maska as a woman interact with both Eric and Jarana. It would have given me more of a background to work with and given Eric's interactions with her/him more poignancy and depth.
There is still a lot of intensity here and the change is addressed while both men work to find a new balance in their relationship. Worth writes menages so well which is a treat.
This is a great addition to the Kithran series. Lots of angst here but wonderful interactions between the characters and some great cameos by the from the previous book. ...more

I really enjoyed the world-building here and seeing the life the survivors created after the virus wiped most of the world. Sadly, I've noticed in quite a lot of MMF stories that the MM aren't really interested in each other sexually and revolve around the F part. I don't like that so when I read a story that has the MM as engaged into each other as they are with the F I'm a very happy reader. We definitely have this interest here, Ross and Dorian want each other as much as they want and desire Jenna and that makes for a very satisfying and wonderful MMF story for me.
I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic stories. You read about people stripped down to their core character, what they would do to survive and what they would do to protect the ones they love. I can't get enough. I'll be sticking with this series to see what happens next to this little community of survivors. A great start and even though it's short it packs a punch.
