Twelve sisters live in a manor by the sea and they appear to be cursed as four of the older sisters die one after the other not long after their mother has passed. Exchanging their mourning clothes for bright, frilly dresses on shoe at the suggestion of their stepmother, the girls discover a secret passage in the family crypt that leads them to an enchanted world of glorious balls and endless dancing. Annaleigh grows suspicious of these balls and sense they might be linked to her sister’s untimely deaths. She sets out to seek the truth before the curse takes them all.
This book is definitely a dark gothic fantasy and it increasingly becomes darker as the story progresses. There were enough twists and turns to keep me guessing. When I thought I figured it out, I was proven wrong once again. Overall this was a solid read and the epilogue made up for the shocking end....more
