Her plans hits a snag when she falls ill and recovers in Montgomery’s home. Annabelle and the cold and surly Montgomery soon find themselves fighting their attraction for one another.
Fun and sexy are two words I would use to describe this book. I didn’t expect to enjoy reading it as much as I did (because I hate romance). The sexual tension was on point. I also learned some about the Suffrage Movement in the U.K.and just how much women had to risk to be treated equally. I’m looking forward to Book 2. ...more

She’s socially awkward (aka being unintentionally rude). She’s had the same job for 9 years. Her mother calls her once a week to talk (berate) her. Her life doesn’t deviate much from day to day. Eleanor reluctantly checks out a music show with her co-workers and immediately falls head over feet with the lead singer. She becomes obsessed with him and goes about learning everything she can about him because in her mind, he is her happily ever after.
It’s when Eleanor and IT tech Raymond help an elderly man named Sammy when he falls in the street begins to spark up a friendship with them both that she starts to break out of her self imposed cocoon. Eleanor’s reality and her long held opinions about other people changes and she opens her heart and mind to new experiences and grow as a person and learns to live.
I can relate to this book so much. I felt like the author peeked into my life and wrote about me. I’m very much an introvert. I’m mostly happy in my bubble. Mostly out of protection and fear. There were a many passages in the book that i understood because I’m feeling the exact same way. This is one of them:
“There are scars on my heart, just as thick, as disfiguring as those on my face. I know they’re there. I hope some undamaged tissue remains, a patch through which love can come in and flow out. I hope.”
As someone who suffers from anxiety I enjoy reading books that nail all emotions that one goes through. That gets all the starts from me.
Is this going to be a movie? Phoebe Waller Bridge should definitely write the screenplay....more

BOEC is much more than a story about a boy who was raised by wolves. It's a story about that boy growing into a man and touching and changing the lives of the people he comes across. Ultimately it's a love story of two childhood friends rekindling the friendship after years pass between them.

I never read anything from this author before but magical realism seems to be her thing. It's also my thing. I got very excited when I saw this was my BOTM Club selection. A modern retelling of forbidden love and feuding families in the vein of Romeo and Juliet? Yes, please.
However, the more I read it, the more I realized this wasn't exactly what I imagined the story to be and I was disappointed. I kept reading even though I was enjoying the book as much as I thought I would. I considered throwing in the towel because I didn't pick it up again for a few days. But I wanted to know what caused the feud between the two families so I kept reading.
I was satisfied with the conclusion but the process to get there and the big reveal was long and confusing. I feel the story could have covered everything in about 200 pages.
The main idea that I got out of this book was how grief and our memories, good and bad, can shape us as people. I lost two family members in three months, one while I was finishing this book. I relate to June's grief over losing her father and her need to hold on to her memories of him and the stories he told her and her desire to just to be with him again and hear his voice. It hit close to home and I found myself tearing up a few times toward the end because the written words touched me. Emily is an amazing writer.
I'm giving the book four ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ only because of the length. It was too long....more

Alice Hart moves to North Yorkshire after her husband leaves her for his secretary. She attempts to make a home of the 18th Century cottage they originally brought together to use as a vacation home.
Alice meets Owen, coffee shop owner, herbalist and "charmer" while running errands. He refers Alice to handyman Richard, whom she hires, to help her renovate her home, especially the old barn that Alice intends to use as a holiday rental.
Weird things start happening to Alice. She begins seeing Owen in places she knows he isn't supposed to be. Then there is the crying she hears in the middle of the night but never finding the source. Things take an even stranger turn when Richard digs up the bones of an infant buried in the barn - an infant with a chest key tied around it's tiny little neck. That finding prompts Alice to do some research on her new home and what she discovers about the cottages previous owners surprises her.
This wasn't the typical paranormal story with a sappy romance thrown in for good measure. I couldn't stop reading it because I wanted to know what happens.

Mallory's Dulcie O'Neill series. Dulcie is a fairy but she isn't your typical mischievous, sparkling, dust sprinkling imp that we are all familiar with. She's a law enforcement officer with the Association of Netherworld Creatures - a Regulator - charged with protecting her city of Netherworld beings and apprehending citizens who involve themselves with illegal activities. She is also a budding romance novelist.
Dulcie becomes a suspect when a warlock is killed. She has to work to kill her name. She finds herself partnered unofficially with a drop dead gorgeous (aren't they always) Regulator from the Netherworld named Knight Vander who was sent to find the real killer before it kills again.
Dulcie is a cool chick. I like her. She's kick-ass, feisty and funny. But underneath that tough exterior, she is fraught with insecurities and fears. Dulcie and Knight (what a name) have a confrontational first meeting and doesn't exactly rust him. Knight comes into the story all dark and mysterious so why should she? Is Knight what he says he is or is he in league with the killer or is the killer himself? Dulcie is also fighting her attraction to Knight as well as the urge to ring his neck because he's so frustrating.
The book is very well written and easy to read. The plot moved at a fast clip and I didn't want to put it down once I got into it.
H.P. Mallory does a wonderful job of creating a fun world that comes alive with fairies, demons, vampires, witches, goblins - every paranormal creature that you can think of. It's sexy and steamy. A romance novel wouldn't be complete without a love triangle - hot male characters vying for the attention and love for the lead heroine.
If you are looking for a lighthearted read and are a fan of paranormal romance with a touch of humor, this is the book for you. ...more
