There is something here related to who matters, who is real, and who is artificial. But it evades me as I try to pinpoint what exactly it is. There is an interesting contrast between believing something is real and knowing something is real. Surely, if everyone believes something to be real, that should be enough? And yet, the disappointment when the owl and toad are found to be fake counts for something?...more

Did I read it in less than 24 hours? And in only three consecutive sittings? Yes, to both. However, was this good....? I can't answer that. Is Darius somehow my favorite character? Absolutely. However, why is he my favorite character? I have no good answer for that question. Did I kick my feet at the student teacher relationship? Yes, and again, I have no defense for that one.
In conclusion, this series is so addictive it has bypassed my morals and burrowed its unlikable characters into my heart....more

I don't know what it is about Christina Lauren vacation romances, but this is the second one that I haven't liked. The Unhoneymooners were much worse than The Paradise Problem. However, both bothered me. There's something about the main couple being on a beautiful vacation and still having problems that I can't sympathize with.
In conclusion, I love this author duo. Autoboyography and Josh + Hazel are two of my favorites love stories. But this will become forgettable....more

The reason is that I absolutely loved the Red Rising trilogy. Red Rising feels like the destruction of an oppressive civilization, the breaking of chains, and a promise of a new and better future. Iron Gold, however, is the rebuild, the problems, the hard work that comes when restructuring an entire solar system populated by billions of people who all disagree on the best course of action.
I was so afraid of reading Iron Gold because I knew some of my favourite characters would have to die. Sure enough, my heart broke at their inevitable slaughter. However, their deaths were balanced out by the creation of new characters. The next generation promising to finish building their parents' dreams.
In conclusion, Iron Gold won't be for every Red Rising fan. It is perfectly understandable to want Darrows life to rest in peace after the end of Morning Star. However, for fans that want more than a happily ever after Iron Gold is the messy, darker, truth of the cost that must be paid when building a new world. It left me questioning if it was all worth it? (The breaking of the world)....more

JeaI never thought I'd say this, but I fell completely in love with Jean-Yves Moreau. Jean is so broken, depressed, and has way too much trauma/ptsd. Jean is basically suicidal (except Kevin made him promise he'd never off himself). Jean should be unlikable for how miserable of a character he is. However, Nora Sakavic wrote Jean in a way that stole my entire heart. I love Jean's character so much.
I did myself way too dirty reading this so quickly when the second book hasn't been announced yet. So I will now be waiting, hoping, and praying for Jean-Yves Moreau to get a happy ending.... eventually, right? Even if it doesn't come until after another two books of absolute misery in my future, Jean and Jeremy live happily ever with their Golden Retriever, and Jeremy will teach Jean how to swim in the ocean without being scared.

Don't get me wrong, I actually love reading philosophy. However, this took philosophical ideas and got rid of all and any interesting prose. Part of my love for reading philosophy comes from the ways in which philosopher's structure their arguments. This text took away any complex or interesting structure for the sake of being accessible. I understand that accessible texts are needed. However, just because something is accessible doesn't mean it needs to read this dry....more
