Oathbound is not perfect. It has slow and chunky pacing that really bothered me. Tracy Deonn makes a distinct decision to regress the development of Bree's character. Reading a flatter, less developed version of Bree (while I understand it was for the purpose of furthering the plot) felt like a poor narrative decision. The emotional beats of this book could have hit harder had Bree maintained the same level of emotional intelligence she possessed in the first two books. Because of this decision, Bree is able to become more powerful and make new friendships. However, the friendships Bree already forged in the past two books read as stale.
This being said, the last four chapters of this book are absolute mastery. Selwyn Kane shines through the page, and his dynamic with both Nick and Bree felt so real. For me, Selwyn was by fair the highlight of this book. Which surprised me considering how little page time Selwyn receives.
The plot twist at the end was so satisfying, especially after the lack of Sel and Bree content that preceeded it.
I needed the next book like yesterday. Tracy Deonn, I have questions that only you hold the answers to.

Something within the prose that brought me to tears. I felt so deeply for Damien that the tears just poured out of me. That being said, the magic of those chapters was disjointedly connected by chapters that fell completely flat. There's magic within this book, but only in some chapters other chapters felt like filler. It's for this reason I landed on giving this book three stars. Some of the chapters are easily worthy of five stars, and others left me unsatisfied....more

Did I read it in less than 24 hours? And in only three consecutive sittings? Yes, to both. However, was this good....? I can't answer that. Is Darius somehow my favorite character? Absolutely. However, why is he my favorite character? I have no good answer for that question. Did I kick my feet at the student teacher relationship? Yes, and again, I have no defense for that one.
In conclusion, this series is so addictive it has bypassed my morals and burrowed its unlikable characters into my heart....more

The main characters name is Diem, and that's a crime onto itself. However, moving past that Diem lives in a world where there are normal people like her and a powerful ruling class descended from the gods. Diem's not like other girls she's witty, picks fights, and she's good with knives. Diems best friend is in love with her despite the fact that she's not like any of the other girls he's ever dated. But when her mother goes missing, Diem decides to break all her mothers rules, not marry the pining boy next door, and get involved with a mysterious shadow prince she hates because he's handsome. What could this book possibly be about? Secret powers, hidden histories, and a handsome shadow daddy that's not actually evil? Absolutely....more

The characters are amazing. I felt for Paedyn as if she were a real person. Her hopes, dreams, trauma, fears, and vivid emotions became my own. I fell in love with Kai and the impossible position he was born into being. The way these two characters interact was effortlessly smooth. It felt natural reading their banter, enjoying their interactions, and living for their tension.
The plot also will not let you down. It is packed full of action, character development, emotional hard hitters, and a tasteful selection of good tropes.
Overall, Powerless is a five-star read. I look forward to reading more of Lauren Roberts' future works. What an incredible debut novel Powerless is....more

All the characters annoyed or bothered me. Yet I had so much fun reading this. I honestly would have rated this book more than 2 stars off of enjoyment. However, there was absol no plot to be had. Crave is exclusively writing for vibes. It is a blatant rip-off of paranormal romance books that came before it. Lastly, there are not enough vibes in this story to justify its 592 pages....more
