The plot started plotting, but idk if I can continue this series and still possess any dignity. 10/10 recommend for the vibes if you lack self-respect and aren't afraid of the laundry list of trigger warnings that come with this manga. Sue me, I'm actually enjoying this. Where the first book flopped with a boring love triangle, the second book excels in the love triangle department. Sue me, I'm actually enjoying this. Where the first book flopped with a boring love triangle, the second book excels in the love triangle department. It's trashy and messy and full of manga mafia spice, with an extra large side of CHEATING, but I'm having fun. I just want all three to end up together. Ditch the cheating and make it work as a three-way. Please give the people what they want....more

I think I will need to sit with this story and contemplate how it settles into my thoughts before properly reviewing it. I am stuck between hating it. Feeling frustrated, confused, and annoyed. A 2 star read at best. Vs loving the ending, being excited for the next entry, an absolute 5 star banger.
The more I think about this book, the more I'm convinced Ruochio is writing Halo fanfiction. I was trying to explain the world building to my boyfriend, and the best I could come up with was it's Halo, but instead of Master Chief, there's this guy named Hadrian Marlowe. Instead of The Covenant, there's the Cielcin. You have your ancient civilization whose influence is felt throughout the timeline. You have the Forerunners or AI civilization who built technologies no one can understand. The only noticeable difference is that Sun Eater feels more fantastical, and computer technologies are forbidden....more

The reason is that I absolutely loved the Red Rising trilogy. Red Rising feels like the destruction of an oppressive civilization, the breaking of chains, and a promise of a new and better future. Iron Gold, however, is the rebuild, the problems, the hard work that comes when restructuring an entire solar system populated by billions of people who all disagree on the best course of action.
I was so afraid of reading Iron Gold because I knew some of my favourite characters would have to die. Sure enough, my heart broke at their inevitable slaughter. However, their deaths were balanced out by the creation of new characters. The next generation promising to finish building their parents' dreams.
In conclusion, Iron Gold won't be for every Red Rising fan. It is perfectly understandable to want Darrows life to rest in peace after the end of Morning Star. However, for fans that want more than a happily ever after Iron Gold is the messy, darker, truth of the cost that must be paid when building a new world. It left me questioning if it was all worth it? (The breaking of the world)....more

The characters are amazing. I felt for Paedyn as if she were a real person. Her hopes, dreams, trauma, fears, and vivid emotions became my own. I fell in love with Kai and the impossible position he was born into being. The way these two characters interact was effortlessly smooth. It felt natural reading their banter, enjoying their interactions, and living for their tension.
The plot also will not let you down. It is packed full of action, character development, emotional hard hitters, and a tasteful selection of good tropes.
Overall, Powerless is a five-star read. I look forward to reading more of Lauren Roberts' future works. What an incredible debut novel Powerless is....more
