Something was lacking and I could barely finish this story. Cynthia was described as a strong modern woman but only in the first few chapters. After meeting Raphael she was too meek. Yeah, and I wanted to hit my head a few times because of her and Raphaels's stupidy. A hard pass on the next books....more

Vision in Silver felt more like a preparation of what it's coming. And not all of what is coming is good. Meg made some mistakes while trying to help. The other blood prophets are struggling with their new lives. It's revealed that some prophecy can be made without needing to cut the skin. I wanted the Others to fight back, if not physically, then through the media. I couldn't stand how they were blamed for the shortages. (view spoiler)[Humans against humans... why I am not surprised?! (hide spoiler)] The human pack is growing and tries to work with the Others. And something nice could come from this...
And last... I want more Simon/Meg scenes... The horizon is too far away for now... Everyone can sense something is happening between them, but these two takes things so slow... All this talk about petting and playing with wolves... I want it too!

Murder of Crows was a little different than Written in Red. I loved everything except the too many POVs. Someone's thoughts would end unexpectedly and some other's thoughts would begin. It was confusing. Apart from that, I had fun reading the second book of the series. There were so many different characters and so much information. I loved the scenes at the first pages. I laughed so much when Meg kicked Simon and the subsequent drama... The romance is coming! Slow and painful, but I can see it on the horizon!
I didn't expect to like Written in Red so much... Creating a world in which people are aware of the supernatural is a breath of fresh air. Also, humanI didn't expect to like Written in Red so much... Creating a world in which people are aware of the supernatural is a breath of fresh air. Also, humans are not the dominant race. They're the prey. At first, the way the Others see the humans was startling. We're literally meat on a stick. However, along with Meg, the blood prophet, I began to see more under their surface.

Meg is a heroine I was drawn immediately. She can see the future just by cutting herself. Running away for the Controller, she is coming across the Lakeside Courtyard and his leader, Simon Wolfgard. While I'm not fond of the name Simon, it was fitting for that character. I didn't like him very much... He was scary and always snarling at Meg. Further in the story he starts to care for her... small gestures I would say. He gives Meg the Liasion' job. Accepting mail deliveries and sorting it out is part of her job. While she may seem to be child-naive and weak, I wouldn't agree. I'm sick of female badasses who are the best assassins and no one can beat them. Enough with this feminism. Yeah, everyone wants to be independent, smart and pretty. You can be it without being aggressive and upright. Actually, Meg is some of these things without intruding into your eyes... unlike some other female character in the book. She is kind and delicate but stubborn. Some of the Other befriends Meg because of her attitude. She somehow makes that thing which touches them. Now Simon... he is just that protagonist who is dominant enough to be a leader, but he doesn't overdo it. He is handsome as a human and Wolf but also smart and fearsome. He is also fiercely protective of those he cherished. What I loved is that Meg and Simon didn't fall into the predictable love trap. I mean many authors rely on sex scenes to make up for the plot... Not here though. There are clues left about their attraction here and there.

I really enjoy the way this new world is built on and his many characters. Each of the different POVs was intriguing to read. The story is well written and you're immediately charmed to dive into it. It reminded me of the books my mom used to give when I was younger. I have always been drawn to supernatural and books gave me other worlds to explore. The first books my mom encouraged me to read were The Spirit Ring and The Curse of Chalion of Lois McMaster Bujold. I could barely leave the books to study and sleep. They were written in a way that was talking to me. Something in Written in Red gives me this feeling again. Words don't always have to be big and aggressive for me to hear them. In books like this one, the dynamic is eerie and quiet but then it feels the most threatening. Anne Bishop is one of the best writers I've ever encountered. I would definitely recommend the series....more

The series slowly grew on me and every book would surprise me when I least expected it. Like the previous book's finale and the first part of this one... Ms. Moning played me well. I literally cried when I realized that you-know-who is alive. However I gоt angry when my favorites again returned to their original connection - not together. Yet I admired Mac, because she might had collapsed, but became stronger and was ready to fight until her last breath. Oh, also the author revealed Barons's secret... I was completely shocked. No wonder that he pursued the book with such ferocity. Another twist... suddenly it was revealed who killed Alina. Honestly I don't know how I didn't figure it out earlier. It was obvious. But the writer has the habit of bombarding with information and some things are missed. Of all 5 books this one is my favourite... it literally doesn't let you rest. I'll definitely re-read the series again.

My favourite moment in the book is this one:
(view spoiler)[“Do you come back exactly how you were when you died the first time?” “Were you Pri-ya the entire time?” I gasp and try to duck my head so he can’t see my eyes. My eyes betray me sometimes, no matter how hard I try, especially when my feelings are intense. He grabs my head and holds it with two fistfuls of my hair, forcing me to look at him. “I knew it—you weren’t!” His mouth is on mine, he has me against the wall. I can’t breathe and I don’t care. He is exultant. “How long?” he demands. “What happens when you die?” I counter. “I come back.” “Duh, obviously. How? Where? Do you eventually just stand up from your ashes again or something?” I hear a rattle and suddenly he’s on the floor, head back, muscles rippling, fighting to remain a man. He’s losing the battle. He has talons. Black fangs slide from his mouth, gouging into his skin. I can tell he doesn’t want to turn, but something I asked him has made him frenzied. I can’t stand watching him struggle. I wonder if anyone has ever tried to help Barrons. I answer, talk to him to keep him grounded in the here and now. “I knew what was happening from the moment you asked me what I wore to the prom.” I drop to my knees beside him, take his head in my arms and cradle him at my breast. His face is half beast, half man. “I began to surface. It was like I was there but trying not to be there. I’m here, Jericho. Stay with me.” Later we sleep. Or I do. I don’t know what he does. I’m exhausted and warm and feel safe for the first time in a long time, drifting off in Barrons’ underground world, next to the king of beasts.
I literally melted at this moment and I read it a few thousand times. ❤ (hide spoiler)]

Here are some of my favorite quotes. I cann't put them all because then I would have to post 90% of the book. :D ♡
Having sex with Barrons sates my need. Then feeds it. Sates, then feeds. It’s a never-ending cycle. I get out of bed with him, frantic to be back in it again. And I— “—hated you for it,” he says gently. That was my line. “I never get enough, Mac. Drives me bug-fuck. I should kill you for what you make me feel.” I understand perfectly. He is my vulnerability. I would become Shiva, the world-eater, for him. ..... “Evil isn’t a state of being. It’s a choice. ..... His head moves funny, like a snake drawing back to strike. “How good-looking?” I look at him. His gaze is cool. If you want that kind of life, get the fuck out of my house now, his eyes say. “Nothing like you, Barrons.” ..... “You’re the wild card, Mac. I’ve thought that since the beginning. This thing thinks you’re epic. So do I.” ..... “The moment I laid eyes on you, I knew you were trouble.” “Ditto.” “I wanted to drag you between the shelves, fuck you senseless, and send you home.” “If you’d done that, I never would have left.” “You’re still here anyway.” “You don’t have to sound so sour about it.” “You’re upsetting my entire existence.” “Fine, I’ll leave.” “Try and I’ll chain you up.” He glowered at me.

The book is in my top 10 now. You know why?! Because Mac grew up the spine she need it and she will fight to the end. And Barons... they make fabulous couple. Barons will never let her die and will love her forever.
The good guys and bad guys aren’t as easy to tell apart as I used to think they were. You can’t look at someone with your eyes and take their measure.
