Single father Sebastian has been content to raise his child in the familial haunted house, but suddenly the spirits have become more active and possibly a bit dangerous. A film crew coming to study the paranormal activity brings even more unwelcome complications, and Sebastian will have to decide if he’s going to have to leave his home forever.
This adult gay paranormal mpreg romance mixes fantasy and realism in a great combination, and features fun, although eerie, contributions from the ghosts that Sebastian is used to providing background in his daily life. I was immediately captivated by the characters, and even though I haven’t read the books that connect to this one, I had no problem becoming immersed in the action. I think this is a great introduction to the series, and I can’t wait to see what additional adventures are set in this unique town.

“The Wounded Warrior” by BA Tortuga is the first book in the ‘Rocking W’ series and introduces Luke, a severely injured SEAL who is struggling to find meaning to his life even as he tries to help his twin brother until he runs into the human tornado known as Rory, whose acrimonious relationship with Luke’s brother somehow doesn’t impede the growing attraction that forms. The question is whether their relationship will survive all of the challenges that are thrown at it, some of which may prove to be fatal.
This adult contemporary gay romance is being re-released as the first book in a lovely series. Ironically, I had just savored it a week ago and was delighted to see that there is a sequel available, although I evidently will still have to wait for the twin’s romance. I adore the guys’ mom, and there is a scene that just tickled me as she demonstrates where her boys got their grit from. This author has a gift for creating charismatic characters honed in the harshest of crucibles as well as those who are unapologetically themselves, and I continue to enjoy the interactions and the beautiful romances that arise. I look forward to many more enthralling stories, especially the next in this series, “Doing Life.”

“Impulsive Connections” by Marie Reynard is the second book in the ‘Elemental Bonds’ series and centers around Kade, the second in his wolf-shifter pack, who is healing from injuries, and Liam, a mage who excels in research and creating magic based on his findings. As the two team up to counter the escalating threats to the pack, they learn to depend on each other and discover a way to complement each other’s strengths.
This adult gay paranormal romance picks up immediately after “Accidental Connections”, so not only does it follow up on the couple featured in that story, but one gets to know the other mages who are friends of the mage Elijah who stars in the first book. I enjoyed getting to know more about Kade, who, although he unfortunately shares the mage Aran’s sophomoric sense of humor and love of dick jokes, has unexpected depths. The text messages between the mages add to the fun and madness, while the dangers escalate, requiring collaboration between the wolves and the mages. I like the connection to mythological elements, and it’s great to get each of the mages spotlighted. This is an exciting and inventive series, and, although I really dislike cliffhangers, I enjoyed this story and will be rereading it.

“Where the Heart Sings” by L.C. Chase is part of the ‘Haverstall Mountain’ series, and features Shane, a rock star, who is assigned a reluctant bodyguard, Wes, to protect him from an overzealous stalker. Despite clashing personalities, the two men form an uneasy truce, but as their relationship deepens, so does the threat to Shane’s safety.
This adult contemporary m/m romance explores some of the disadvantages that go along with the fame and fortune of being a rock star. I enjoy stories that involve folks who grow to like each other as they discover their initial preconceptions and hostilities are mistaken, and this one does a nice job of portraying that. I was a bit disconcerted by all of the incomplete sentences, but the escalating danger and increasing intensity of the relationship kept me invested in the story. Although this is the second story in the series, I had no trouble reading it as a stand-alone story, and I am anxious to read the first one.

“The Legendary Mo Seto” follows the adventure of young martial arts practitioner Modesty (Mo), whose dreams of being a tae kwon do champion are constantly stymied…by her nemesis Dax, her mom’s opposition, her small stature, and…the mysterious lack of support by her biggest fan…her father. A chance at redemption comes when her movie-star idol holds auditions, but one setback after another threatens to destroy Mo’s dreams unless she finds a way to overcome all of her obstacles.
This fun children’s book is both informative and entertaining, and I was instantly transported to Mo’s world and invested in her success. From her quirky sidekick who may want to deepen their relationship to the mysteries surrounding Mo’s ancestors, plus the mother who seems determined to force Mo into a more traditional role, there are plenty of characters who I made a connection with. The plucky determination and out-of-the-box solutions that typify Mo’s character and the increasingly scary events that take place made this a page-turner that was fun to read and a story I highly recommend. I enjoyed the glimpse into another culture, the evolution of multiple relationships, and the depiction of love and affection displayed by multiple characters, and I hope there will be many more adventures featuring Mo and her supporting cast.

It starts with a bang, enmeshes you in the quirky heroine's life, adds a mystery, and keeps you turning the page. The Brand family is entertaining and charismatic, and the connection they all have with each other is heartwarming. Some of the suspense is a little forced for me, and the hero is a little too befuddled and bemused at times, but this is still an enjoyable and uplifting story. Great start to the series, and I look forward to reading about more of these family members. ...more
“Hawaii Five Uh-oh” by Z.A. Maxfield is the second book in the ‘Plummet to Soar’ series and centers around Theophilus (Theo) Hsu, w3.25 out of 5 stars
“Hawaii Five Uh-oh” by Z.A. Maxfield is the second book in the ‘Plummet to Soar’ series and centers around Theophilus (Theo) Hsu, who has returned to Oahu, Hawaii from Wisconsin and is ready (somewhat) to reconnect with his estranged mom, meet his stepfather and step-siblings, and most of all, have a relationship with the next-door neighbor who has always had a special place in his heart, Kekoa (Koa) Palapiti. The biggest problem? Koa seems to have moved on and gives off conflicting signals. Maybe Theo isn’t back to stay after all.
This contemporary adult gay romance is set in one of my favorite places and evokes the combination of beauty and pragmatism inherent in the Hawaiian Islands. Although I enjoyed the chance to armchair travel, I had trouble getting into the story itself. There is so much going on, with secrets and hurtful behavior and hostility and attempts at reconciliation, that it was hard to follow. Some of the events that help resolve the major conflict are a little hard to believe, and the foray into BDSM seemed abrupt and forced.
I don’t know if some of the threads are laid down in the first book in the series and I am lost because I haven’t read that one, but this almost seemed like a collection of vignettes that were strung together. I liked the main characters individually, but their connection was awkward and for much of the book it was difficult to see the bone-deep relationship they had forged as youngsters. The case that is gradually unveiled gets more exciting as the story progresses, but it is also awkward and makes some startling leaps. For me, there are good segments of this story and a delicious Island flair, but I think the story needs to be much longer so that some of the threads can be better tied off. I also hope that some of the secondary characters get a chance in the spotlight as well, because I would love to learn more about their stories.

“Silent Partner” by Morgan Brice is part of the Fox Hollow Zodiac series and features Brandon, a wilderness guide, and Riley, a musician, who discover that they are perfect for each other…provided each is willing to share his secrets.
This adult gay paranormal romance features a type of shifter who doesn’t normally get much time in the spotlight, and it was fun to read about him. I love the repartee between Brandon and his moose alter-ego, and I was fascinated by the idea of a psychic nil being peaceful for a telepath to be around. I was a bit disappointed that the suspense and action were resolved a bit quickly and seemed to be secondary to the sex scenes, and I thought the guys got pretty hot and heavy very early in their relationship.
I was happy to see some of the characters from previous stories, and was very happy to be armchair traveling through the vivid descriptions of hiking through snowy weather. Just like his moose, Brandon is a larger-than-life personality, and I was delighted to make his acquaintance. Fox Hollow is a fun place to visit, and I enjoyed seeing other characters from the series.

What a fun story! I was captivated from the first page and anxious to see what was going to happen. This is such a great concept, and although I haven't read the other stories in the series, I had no problem connecting to these characters and understanding the overall premise. I love the self-deprecating humor, the quirky elements like the paperwork required by SPAM, and the suspenseful adventures. I'm curious about the other stories, but I think it's going to be hard for them to top this. Now to read it again to savor all of the details I undoubtedly skimmed over.

I know that once I start one of this author's stories, I won't want to put it down, so I resign myself to being blurry-eyed the next day, lol. As always, great tension and build-up, characters that are immediately easy to relate to and who are inspirational yet down-to-earth. I wince as I read the vivid descriptions and cheer because both the male and female characters are very capable and bright yet empathetic. Another fantastic and thrilling story that made me anxious in the best way but quietly satisfied by the time I finished the story. Those with triggers about assault should use caution because this is definitely a cautionary tale and a reminder to be aware of those around us.

“Point Blank” by Morgan Brice is Book 6 in the ‘Badlands’ series and follows Vic and Simon as they try to solve a locked-room murder mystery with a twist, plus survive to enjoy their upcoming nuptials.
This adult gay paranormal romance continues the adventures of homicide detective Vic and his psychic partner/fiance Simon as they race to solve a mysterious murder that seems to have ties throughout the small beach community. Add pre-wedding complications and jitters, and the stress threatens to derail their plans.
I have been reading the books in this fascinating series since the beginning, and it’s so wonderful to see how their relationship has grown, and touching to watch them work through the complications of family interactions while they approach their special day.
The chilling implications of the cold cases that are uncovered are balanced by the camaraderie that has developed between the police department and Simon and his paranormal contacts. It was fun to follow the clues as they are revealed, especially with the twists of having informants who are non-corporeal and Simon having his ancestor there to provide assistance (and snarky comments). I think this story might be enjoyed by someone new to the series, but it definitely will be more appreciated by those who have read the other stories in this series. There are cameos by characters who star in their own series, such as Badlands or Treasure Trail, and allusions to the fun anthologies set at Caynham Castle, so those new to this author will have plenty of new stories to savor.
This is an excellent addition to the series, combining thrills and chills and sentiment, and I look forward to reading about more adventures experienced by this charismatic pair.

I can't say I wasn't warned in the description, but this book reminded me of why I stopped reading Danielle Steel novels...because they start out with a picture of an idyllic life and then it's all torn down and the heroine has to rebuild from scratch. Even though I knew it was coming, I was still disturbed and dismayed when Morgan has to deal with the tragedy that strikes, and this is a tribute to this author's ability to create likeable characters in realistic situations. The story is a chilling reminder of what can happen when we trust those we shouldn't, and a lovely reminder of what happens when we find someone who we can wholeheartedly have faith that they will be there for us.
The wonderful vignettes of how small gestures can mean so much, and the reminder that putting a little kindness out into the world helps leaven the horrors that accompany evils such as the villain's rampage balance the book nicely. I enjoyed getting a look at the hospitality industry and savored the slow rise of heat between the main characters....more

I love that I'm immersed in the action immediately even as I wince because there is a crime involved that will involve murder and violence. I love that there are cameos by others who have been prominent in this series yet this book stands alone just fine.
As always, there are several strong female characters who are persistent and self-sufficient yet form strong connections to others. This is a great addition to 'The Texas Murder Files' series, and I can't wait to read more.

“Light My Way Home” by Morgan Brice is a novella in the ‘Treasure Trail’ series and features Monty, a lighthouse keeper who has the ability to see ghosts. This is an unexpected benefit for Jon Richards, a ghost who is shocked that someone can actually communicate with him. The connection between the men deepens, and Monty becomes invested in finding justice for Jon, and searches for a way for them to be together.
This adult gay paranormal romance story is engaging and fun to read, even if you’re new to the series. Even though this is a fairly short tale, each man became distinct in my mind, and I was anxious to see how they could find a way to be together. I was impressed by the excitement generated by Jon’s selfless actions, and loved the twists and turns of the story. I enjoy this author’s interconnected series, and I am always delighted to find out there’s a new story to savor, and this one whetted my appetite for even more adventures.

“Fall of the Pathfinder” by L.C. Lowe is an intriguing and complex science fiction story that features Julian Sastre , a young miner who is struggling to overcome the stigma of his name, dig out from crushing debt, and give his mother a decent life. Being punished and ostracized yet again for something beyond his control results in him taking a path he never would have considered before and exposes him to truths that make him doubt everything and everyone he’s ever known.
This is ostensibly a gay science fiction story, but there is no overt relationship in this first book of the ‘Kessler Effect’ series. The world-building is complex and intriguing, and the gradual revelations and twists keep one invested in the story, even though some of the events are harsh and shocking. As the warnings indicate, there is only a partial resolution at the end, so one definitely wants the sequel, to learn what is actually the truth and to follow these characters on their adventures. I definitely want to find out what happens next and will be on the lookout for the second book in the series.
