“Covering the Cowboy” by BA Tortuga is the third book in the ‘Cowboy Wanted’ series and centers around Kyler Hale, single dad to spitfire Paige, and author Austin Williams, single dad to Dallas, and their adventures together.
This adult contemporary gay romance is such a lovely depiction of the bonds between fathers and their children even as it explores a burgeoning relationship between two very different single dads. I ladored these kids and their respective fathers who are determined to make life easy for their kids. There are such great vivid scenes, especially as Paige takes up for the underdog Dallas and they form their tight friendship. There are so many “awww” moments that one almost gets distracted from the heat that builds between the men, but that relationship is also deftly portrayed. This is one of those stories I’ll read again and again, just to savor the cute scenes and to appreciate the initial awkwardness between the hunky novice cover model and the author who uses him as inspiration.
This is a feel-good story that reminds me of why I enjoy this author’s writing so much, and it made me curious about the other books in the series, so I was delighted to discover that the first one is on sale. I look forward to reading about more of these yummy cowboys.

“Kestrel & Kee (Paranormal Investigators): The Siren of Lake Killikee by V.L. Locey follows Archimedes Kee, whose tutoring sessions lead to an unexpected result. No, not the interruption of the regular ghostly book club meetings, but a budding relationship with popular football star Phil Kestrel (Kes). Unfortunately, there are several elements that may keep them from becoming closer, including an inimical force that may be responsible for several missing males.
This new-adult gay paranormal romance is such a fun story and has wonderful twists and turns. I love that the athlete is pursuing the nerd, and although he has to learn to accept some pretty remarkable events, he perseveres and helps reconcile Kee to his worth and value. The blend of cultures and abilities leads to entertaining adventures, and these guys are just so cute together that I was captivated by the story. I hope there are many more tales featuring this great couple.

Now they have to come to an agreement on how to form their new family.
Although this contemporary romance is part of the ‘Sutter Creek’ series, there is no problem reading it as a stand-alone story. I was immediately captivated by Marisol’s determination to involve Lachlan in their baby’s life even as I ached at his conflict and dismay at the unexpected news that evokes his own painful past. I love that these two were prepared to step up and do whatever was best, no matter how difficult. It is great to see Caleb healing from his own wounds and in his element, and I always enjoy when characters from other books in the series have cameos in later tales.
I think this is the best book in the series thus far, and I was happy to feel a connection with these main characters. This was an inspirational and heartwarming story and I was delighted to have something to elevate my spirits during the challenging times we’re living in currently.

It starts with a bang, enmeshes you in the quirky heroine's life, adds a mystery, and keeps you turning the page. The Brand family is entertaining and charismatic, and the connection they all have with each other is heartwarming. Some of the suspense is a little forced for me, and the hero is a little too befuddled and bemused at times, but this is still an enjoyable and uplifting story. Great start to the series, and I look forward to reading about more of these family members. ...more

“Ghostridden” by EJ Russell is a fun gay paranormal story that has a delightful mixture of genres that grabbed me from the first line and kept me anxiously turning the pages. I love the way things slowly escalate from an unforeseen windfall to uncanny occurrences to a murder mystery, all within a small-town framework. There are plenty of fascinating characters, including those with an obsession to contact ghosts, which makes it all the more amusing that both Maz and his cat are the only ones who can see and interact with a ghost.
This is the beginning of a series, so there are a few dangling threads, and I am anxiously awaiting sequels to help resolve some of the overall arcs as well as introduce additional quirky characters. After all, there can’t help but be more fun times in a town called Ghost, inhabited by ghosts, that welcomed a ghostwriter who may just provide services to help a ghost write a book.

As the two men try to work out how their lives and relationship will settle out without their pack, they become embroiled with several lone wolves who need an alpha’s mediation, which complicates everything, especially their future.
This adult gay paranormal romance is set in the same world as the delicious ‘Hidden Wolves’ series, and reminds me of why I enjoy this author’s works so much. The artful combination of creating vivid characters and realistic locations always draw me in immediately. I enjoyed getting to know the various wolf shifters in this small town even as I sympathized with the reason for David having to leave his original pack and marveled at Rob’s tenacity and loyalty. I don’t quite have the same intense connection that I formed with Aaron and his pack, but I am definitely curious about the characters introduced in this story, especially the enigmatic and mysterious Julian, so I hope there will be more stories at some point.

It turns out the newcomer has an ulterior motive that isn’t revealed until Ben starts to fall for him, but their nascent relationship may not survive the revelations that start coming fast and furious.
This delicious adult contemporary gay romance centers around family. I love that these two men bond over a child that one already loves unconditionally and the other loves sight unseen. There is some family drama in the background and a weird stalking issue, but the primary focus is on the baby, family (both blood related and not), and animals…so many fun animals. This is a heartwarming read with a few mysteries that are left unsolved but a nice twist on some tropes. I hope to see some of these characters in future stories and I intend to look for other books in this series since I’m definitely in the mood for more “awwww” moments!

“Clean Win” by Kevin Doyle is the fourth book in the ‘Sam Quinton Mystery’ series. A reluctant request from the lead police detective in a murder 3.75
“Clean Win” by Kevin Doyle is the fourth book in the ‘Sam Quinton Mystery’ series. A reluctant request from the lead police detective in a murder case embroils Sam in a complicated situation that may have far-reaching political implications. The wily private investigator will have to use his knowledge from both his prior career and his current ones to get to the truth.
This mystery story features an engaging private detective, intriguing secondary characters, and nice twists and turns as the investigation proceeds. I enjoyed Sam’s insouciant attitude and quiet competence as he interacted with folks from all walks of life. The allusions to previous encounters makes me curious about the other stories in the series, but I had no problem reading this as a stand-alone story. Sam’s previous career as a wrestler gives an entertaining dimension to some of his encounters, and I like that he has a (mostly) cordial relationship with the police. This was a fun quick read, and I look forward to reading other stories that feature this colorful investigator.

“The Airman’s Homecoming” by Sabrina York is a Harlequin Special Edition that is part of the ‘Tuttle Sisters of Coho Cove’ series. Featuring 4.5 stars
“The Airman’s Homecoming” by Sabrina York is a Harlequin Special Edition that is part of the ‘Tuttle Sisters of Coho Cove’ series. Featuring widowed Amy Tuttle Tolliver, a struggling baker and businesswoman, and Noah Crocker, a retired Air Force Pararescue jumper who has been wandering the country, this lovely romantic story details their unexpected connections and their struggle to find a way to not only survive, but thrive.
I love the interactions between Noah and Amy’s vibrant family, as well as the way each provides solace for the pain and adversity faced in the past. Add in a couple of lovable young boys who tug at the heartstrings, and this is a story that typifies what I love about Harlequin books. I was immediately drawn into the story and rooting for this couple, and delighted that one of my favorite romance authors provided her characteristic sensual tale combined with her trademark blend of humor and emotionalism. I haven’t read the books that feature the other Tuttle sisters, but this story was complete in itself, even as it intrigued me and made me want to read more about this family. A delicious tale that left me sighing in satisfaction at the end. I look forward to reading more by this talented author.

“Point Blank” by Morgan Brice is Book 6 in the ‘Badlands’ series and follows Vic and Simon as they try to solve a locked-room murder mystery with a twist, plus survive to enjoy their upcoming nuptials.
This adult gay paranormal romance continues the adventures of homicide detective Vic and his psychic partner/fiance Simon as they race to solve a mysterious murder that seems to have ties throughout the small beach community. Add pre-wedding complications and jitters, and the stress threatens to derail their plans.
I have been reading the books in this fascinating series since the beginning, and it’s so wonderful to see how their relationship has grown, and touching to watch them work through the complications of family interactions while they approach their special day.
The chilling implications of the cold cases that are uncovered are balanced by the camaraderie that has developed between the police department and Simon and his paranormal contacts. It was fun to follow the clues as they are revealed, especially with the twists of having informants who are non-corporeal and Simon having his ancestor there to provide assistance (and snarky comments). I think this story might be enjoyed by someone new to the series, but it definitely will be more appreciated by those who have read the other stories in this series. There are cameos by characters who star in their own series, such as Badlands or Treasure Trail, and allusions to the fun anthologies set at Caynham Castle, so those new to this author will have plenty of new stories to savor.
This is an excellent addition to the series, combining thrills and chills and sentiment, and I look forward to reading about more adventures experienced by this charismatic pair.

I can't say I wasn't warned in the description, but this book reminded me of why I stopped reading Danielle Steel novels...because they start out with a picture of an idyllic life and then it's all torn down and the heroine has to rebuild from scratch. Even though I knew it was coming, I was still disturbed and dismayed when Morgan has to deal with the tragedy that strikes, and this is a tribute to this author's ability to create likeable characters in realistic situations. The story is a chilling reminder of what can happen when we trust those we shouldn't, and a lovely reminder of what happens when we find someone who we can wholeheartedly have faith that they will be there for us.
The wonderful vignettes of how small gestures can mean so much, and the reminder that putting a little kindness out into the world helps leaven the horrors that accompany evils such as the villain's rampage balance the book nicely. I enjoyed getting a look at the hospitality industry and savored the slow rise of heat between the main characters....more

I'm always apprehensive about starting one of this author's books because I know I'll be starting an intense and captivating story that I won't want to put down...and this was definitely no exception. I love that I'm immersed in the action immediately even as I wince because there is a crime involved that will involve murder and violence. I love that there are cameos by others who have been prominent in this series yet this book stands alone just fine.
As always, there are several strong female characters who are persistent and self-sufficient yet form strong connections to others. This is a great addition to 'The Texas Murder Files' series, and I can't wait to read more.

“Fae-ted Mates” by Morgan Brice follows honeymooning Grady and Dawson King, whose delightful vacation is temporarily interrupted by Dawson’s commitment to reaffirm his family’s accords with the fae…who aren’t all so sanguine about the arrangement.
This adult gay paranormal romance novella artfully combines romance, danger, and fantastical creatures in an exciting tale. The devotion between the main characters, the glimpse of fae politics and machinations, and the practical importance of maintaining both major and minor agreements is underscored. I love the alluring glimpses of Caynham Castle and its inhabitants (both visible and invisible), and I was caught up in the struggle the pair inadvertently became victims of. I learned about a new creature and a different way of affirming their connection, and both snickered at the reminder that one should heed the advice of those who come before us and sighed at the romance inherent in the story. Another great addition to a lovely collection of stories.
Each of these stories celebrates romance, and they all were entertaining, with vivid characters and descriptions, and I’ll be looking for other titles by the authors who were new to me.

“Light My Way Home” by Morgan Brice is a novella in the ‘Treasure Trail’ series and features Monty, a lighthouse keeper who has the ability to see ghosts. This is an unexpected benefit for Jon Richards, a ghost who is shocked that someone can actually communicate with him. The connection between the men deepens, and Monty becomes invested in finding justice for Jon, and searches for a way for them to be together.
This adult gay paranormal romance story is engaging and fun to read, even if you’re new to the series. Even though this is a fairly short tale, each man became distinct in my mind, and I was anxious to see how they could find a way to be together. I was impressed by the excitement generated by Jon’s selfless actions, and loved the twists and turns of the story. I enjoy this author’s interconnected series, and I am always delighted to find out there’s a new story to savor, and this one whetted my appetite for even more adventures.

I was drawn to these characters from the start, and I think this is the best story of the series thus far. I love the touch of multi-culturalism, the realism, and the bond that forms between the main characters who each have their own struggles about perception to overcome. “Winter of the Owl” by Iris Foxglove is the first book in the ‘Seasons of the Lukoi’ series, and features aspiring scholar Victor, whose anticipated expedition to learn more about the mysterious Lukoi changes his life. Bereaved Sava Snow-Walker never expects to meet a person who focuses so much on studying as Victor, but while helping the alluring newcomer survive the harsh winter, he discovers that there are more dangers than he ever anticipated.
This adult gay fantasy romance provides a mesmerizing glimpse of a society carved out of necessity. The vivid imagery and harsh surroundings contrast beautifully with the gradual awakening of a naïve and submissive young man with a thirst for knowledge. I loved that dominant Sava was so patient, and I enjoyed watching Victor forging a bond with and impacting the resourceful man even as he continuously thirsts for more and more knowledge. The shifting perspectives of the societies formed are mirrored by other developments in the story, and although some things are pretty strongly foreshadowed, the tale still kept me turning the pages rapidly. I hope that some of the magical elements will be featured more prominently in the next book and anxiously look forward to learning even more about the Lukoi.

"Dead as a Duck" by Colleen J. Shogan is part of the ‘Washington Whodunit’ series and features the adventures of Kit Marshall, chief of staff for representative Maeve Dixon, and amateur sleuth. A “feeling out” stop for the congresswoman that is supposed to morph into a well-deserved vacation for Kit and her cohorts is complicated when her brother gets implicated in…what else? A murder!
This cozy mystery provides an armchair visit to a quaint seaside town in North Carolina named Duck. Glimpses of the fun activities to be had on a vacation that includes canines (despite one’s disappointing antipathy toward the beach) are interspersed with persistent investigation into the most recent murder to impact Kit and her crew. It’s fun to see Kit’s husband get more immersed in her propensity to solve murders, and I wholeheartedly approve of his decision about the subject of his next book.
I didn’t feel much connection to the secondary characters, but I had met several of them in previous stories, so it was good to get an update on where they were in their lives. I think this would be a perfect quick beach read for anyone who likes cozy mysteries and small-town stories.
