The Chance (Thunder Point) By Robyn Carr MIRA March 2014
Thunder Point Novel Number Four
Laine Carrington has driven three thousand miles to Thunder Point, Oregon, from Virginia. Laine has been pulled from her field job as an FBI agent and put on desk duty to recover from a gunshot wound and subsequent surgery to her arm. She has taken a one-year leave of absence from her job and has leased a house with a view of the bay. She is at odds with her father, who lives in Boston, and her twin brother has his own family. Laine lost her mom five years ago, and still greatly misses her. Laine met Devon McAllister when Laine worked a six-month undercover assignment inside The Fellowship, a sinister commune not far from Thunder Bay. Laine thinks of Devon as a younger sister. While on that job, Laine met Thunder Bay citizens Rawley, Cooper, Mac, and Spencer, who is Devon’s fiancé.
Eric Gentry is a newcomer to Thunder Point and owns the service station and body shop. Eric is a master at restoring high-end classic cars. He has been so busy fixing up his businesses that he hasn’t had time to move out of the motel where he has been living. He and Laine definitely have an immediate connection when they are introduced. However, they have absolutely nothing in common except respect and a deep and beautiful need for the other.
Robyn Carr’s flawed and sympathetic protagonists are magnificent and wonderfully drawn. The storyline and dialogue are pitch-perfect and easy to read and enjoy. Fans of the Thunder Bay series will relish getting to know more about the people who live in this community. Ms. Carr leaves us anxiously awaiting our next trip to the Oregon coast.
