I picked this up because the title and cover got my attention, and I have to admit I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected. You do have to get used to the kind of bizarre over the top nature of the book, but once I got the tone I just really enjoyed it. I'm definitely reading more in this series. The book is pretty dark and graphic, but at the same time really funny. I loved Kitty as a main character, and can't wait to read more of her....more

This book was very readable, I flew through it. But it also just wasn't great. The main character was making very stupid choices a lot of the time, and the big plot twist was very obvious from the beginning, and the main 'bad guy' was almost cartoonishly evil.. There were still a few good bits and bits that shocked me, but overall it was very meh. I'd recommend it if you just want something quick to read, though.

I found myself not wanting to pick the book up near the end, which usually is the most interesting part of a mystery/thriller book. It just slowed down a lot, in my opinion.
The characters were interesting, especially Lana, but everything else will be a bit forgettable I fear. I also found Jack slightly boring, I think there could have been a lot more done with her character. ...more

For me, it was less a suspenseful thriller and more of a violent one, it gets quite graphic so be prepared for that. It felt a lot like a slasher film to me at times, though I didn't personally mind that.

Even the bits I did see coming were slightly different or still had another twist, which made the book very fun to read.
I did struggle a little with the two timelines. I cared a lot more about the present timeline than the past one, so every time it would switch back I would lose some motivation to keep on reading. I got invested again when I pushed on, but I did feel like the present timeline was a lot more tense than the past one (maybe partly because we sort of know what happened in the past timeline, though it wasn't entirely clear). I always struggle with this with books like this though, so maybe it's a me problem.

It was just hard to be in the point of view of characters with such a different mindset than my own. The author did a wonderful job writing them, as you could still understand and relate to them.
