Introducing Cambodia

Centuries of heritage, unbelievable natural beauty, and friendly locals make this welcoming destination a premier stop for all travel enthusiasts.

When is the best time to visit?
There’s no bad time of year to visit Cambodia, but the main tourist season happens when temperatures are coolest from November through February. To avoid some of the crowds, visit towards the end of the country’s dry season, which extends all the way into May.

Where to go in Cambodia?
For an iconic Cambodian experience, tour the temples of the ancient city of Angkor. Additionally, there are many undiscovered off-the-beaten-path gems, like the untouched island beaches of Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem, the up and coming bustling city of Phnom Penh, and the 216 stone faces carved at Angkor Thom.

How many days do I need?
Budget at least 6 days in Cambodia to explore the temples and also get to know the vibrant community.

Hi Chris,
Thank you for the wonderful feedback. I can tell that all members of the family really embraced local culture. Family travel can be tricky to plan but you shared plenty of information during the planning stage that helped to ensure we got things right.
I will pass on the kind words to the guides and drivers, and also the local suppliers in Laos.
For sure I can help you with the next visit to Laos, or to Cambodia where you are also interested to discover.
Thanks for travelling with Kimkim/Travel Asia a la carte!

Stephen Long was an excellent tour advisor for our two-week trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. He put together a wonderful itinerary tailored to our preferences — food, art, history, and nature — and truly paid attention to what we wanted. When I asked him to build in a relaxation day mid-trip, he planned for us to be in beautiful Hoi An, where our hotel had a pool and the beach was just a short trip away.
Stephen did an amazing job staying in contact with us via WhatsApp throughout the entire trip. All of our transportation, hotels, inter-trip flights, and activities were booked for us, and communication about where and when we needed to be was always clear. We were also able to make slight adjustments to the itinerary as needed, which we really appreciated. The local tour guides Stephen arranged in each city were excellent as well.
We had an incredible time visiting Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City, and Siem Reap. We highly recommend Stephen for planning your next trip to Vietnam and Cambodia!

Hotel Reviews
Treeline Urban Resort
Siem Reap

Such a calm and relaxing vibe at this hotel in Siem Reap. The food and coffee were both excellent! I especially enjoyed the plant-based food options, and it seems like the chef specializes in them based on the variety and uniqueness of plant-based items on the menu. The pool was beautiful and relaxing, and never too crowded (although could get very hot in the direct sun outside of late afternoon hours). The service was so friendly, and we loved interacting with everyone at the hotel. The design of the hotel itself was also done by an artist, and every detail was meticulously thought through. We loved the sculptures and paintings, which made us feel like we were in a museum (in a good way).

Service is excellent. The hotel workers got to know us so well over the few days that we stayed here. Location is very central and walkable within the Old Quarter. The hotel itself is older, but the rooms were comfortable and had AC. Depending on your room, it could be loud since it is on a busy street. Breakfast had both Western and Vietnamese options.

Absolutely the trip of a lifetime. This review is tardy because we've been distracted, but no less heartfelt. Hien was such a wonderful help to us in every aspect of this trip from planning to execution, including some itinerary changes on the fly. Our trip included modern and ancient history, lots of time outdoors, lots of shopping and a visit to an amazing animal sanctuary.

We deliberately planned to learn about the Khmer Rouge era at the beginning of the trip so as to have time to process and discuss. It is amazing to think this period was only four years of an otherwise inspiring and majestic culture. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in this beautiful country.

This was our second time using Kimkim, every bit as worthwhile as the first. We now have a third data point for this experience, as a dear friend used Kimkim on her trip (at our suggestion) at the same time we were in Cambodia. We really appreciate the assistance with internal travel and the connection to knowledgeable local guides.

Siem Reap - Kulen Mountain - Banteay Srei - Khmer architecture sculptures - Banteay Samre
Siem Reap

Bantay Srei might be our favorite temple. It is breathtaking. Kulen Mountain was a late addition to our itinerary as we had read about it. When we saw the "River of 1,000 Lingas," we realized that what we had in mind a different part of the river and asked our guide. Sure enough, what we had hoped to see was a short hike away and after a quick exchange with Hien, we drove to the trail head. The hike itself was strenuous (though short) but the carvings at the top were breathtaking. I know I'm using that word too much but... everything was truly amazing.

Our drive through the countryside was beautiful and we had a lot of fun shopping for the handcrafted silver items. At the end of our trip, (after the time in Siem Reap) we asked to add an outing to an animal sanctuary. Hien pulled it together with our same guide, and we were able to end our trip with this wonderful activity.
