Introducing Portugal

From the seemingly never-ending festivals to the diverse range of cultures that have made Portugal their home over the centuries, to the simple but delightful culinary experiences, the vibrant heritage and cultural diversity of this country captivate travelers.

When is the best time to visit?
Portugal is a year-round destination, but if possible, travelers should aim to visit in the springtime when the almond blossoms and wildflowers cover the countryside. Learn more

Where should you go in Portugal?
Experience the traditional Alfama neighborhood of Lisbon before it will be absorbed by the rest of the bustling city’s culture, tour the ancient ruins of Sintra and historic Evora, walk along the bluffs of Europe’s most southwestern point at Cabo de São Vicente, and relax on the beaches of Ilha de Tavira.

How many days do I need?
There are too many destinations that are must-sees in Portugal to see the country in less than a week. At least 10 days is best. Learn more

Getting Around Portugal
Although smaller than neighboring Spain and France, distances in Portugal are still significant—traveling from Porto to Faro, for example, takes five hours by car. Flying is a quick and comfortable way to get between the country's major cities, with the largest airport being Lisbon Airport (LIS). Going by bus or train are also options here. Learn more

Next, head north to Porto—famous for wine production and colorful architecture along the Douro River. The hardest decisions fall at the end, where you can choose between spectacular beaches and whitewashed villages in the Algarve.

Best of Lisbon & Porto - 7 Days

This seven-day adventure is the perfect introduction to Portugal for first-timers. Over a week, you'll explore Lisbon's exciting food and culture scene, take scenic day trips to historic villages, and walk through Porto's UNESCO-listed city center. Explore Portugal: Porto, Lisbon, & Madeira Island - 14 Days

This epic Portugal tour highlights two cosmopolitan cities and a stunning mid-Atlantic island—part of an autonomous region—known for its tropical foliage and eternal spring-like weather. You'll kick off in Porto, home of centuries-old wine production and colorful architecture along the Douro River. Then fly to Madeira Island for secluded beaches and untouristed villages waiting to be discovered. Last but not least is Lisbon's friendly, up-and-coming capital—a striking city built on seven hills.

Best of Portugal, from Porto to Algarve - 8 Days

This tour mixes Portugal's vibrant cities with the incredible natural scenery of the Algarve region, starting with guided tours of Porto and Lisbon's hilly and historic neighborhoods. Enjoy a day trip to the Douro Valley for a tasting of the region's wine and port varietals, then head south to Algarve to explore its water sports, preserved coastal parks, and endless coastline filled with sandy beaches and rock formations. Spend hours relaxing on the beach, hiking along the coast, or meandering the historic fishing villages, all before watching dramatic sunsets and experiencing the area's exceptional nightlife.

Ultimate Portugal Tour: Lisbon, Porto, The Algarve, Douro Valley & More - 14 Days

This trip was so special and well planned, thanks to Marisa and her team at Across Portugal. The trip was seamless, from our airport transfer patiently waiting for us to get through passport control, to each walking tour arriving early and spending time with us, to our wonderful drivers in Lisbon and Porto, who not only drove us, but were amazing tour guides on the way to our destination. The level of service was wonderful and felt so personal.

We did not encounter any issues on our trip, but when we had questions, Marisa and her team were quick to respond.

We cannot recommend Across Portugal enough! We hope to return someday, and when we do, we will definitely work with them again!

Really nice hotel, however the front desk staff were not very friendly compared to our other accommodations. Beautiful views of the ocean and a nice pool, however, you do have to walk near a busy road to get to most of the restaurants and the beach in Cascais.

We spent two dreamy weeks in Portugal and are thrilled with our kimkim experience! Marisa, our travel specialist, listened closely to our interests and crafted a base itinerary, which we finalized after a helpful phone call to ask questions and get her advice. Leading up to the trip, she was communicative and proactive, and we knew we were in good hands. Once in the country, we had phenomenal knowledgeable, friendly, and humorous guides who were proud to share their culture with us. Ricardo in Porto, the Douro Valley, and our driver from Porto to Lisbon was like having an old friend take you around their hometown. Andre delivered a very interesting walking tour in Porto, showing us hidden gems and sharing suggestions for things to see and do when we had time on our own. Lastly, Claudia in Lisbon helped us get our bearings, told us jokes, and answered our many questions! In the early afternoon each day, we received a Whatsapp message from Marisa checking in and explaining what to expect for the following day so we always felt prepared for each activity. We would absolutely recommend kimkim for your next adventure.

The guide there drove us around the estate, telling in detail about cork production and olive oil production, showing us the animals on the estate and capping the visit off with a wine tasting that was truly one of the nicest wine tasting I've ever participated in. We were seated outside with a gorgeous view, tasted numerous wines and had delicious cheeses to sample We also had a walnut tasting as the nuts are also raised in the vineyard.
OUr guide in Belem was named Rui. He had a vast store of knowledge of not only the monument, Belem tower and the Monastery but also the history of portugal and its role in Europe's wars.
Upon the advice of Coraima we drove through Arrabida Park on our way to Lisbon. The views were breathtaking. Well worth the extra time it took.
Finally our food tour was fun and educational. Our guide (can't remember her name) was great at explaining the food but also the history of the neighborhoods we were walking through.
