Some of the most meaningful innovation in healthcare starts behind the scenes, with the trusted data foundation that gives clinicians better access to information, enables new insights, and gives them more time to focus on what matters most: their patients.
That’s why I’m so excited about what UMass Memorial Health, Microsoft and Accenture are building together.
Like many health systems, UMass Memorial Health has an opportunity to better connect clinical, operational and research data. This multi-year initiative will bring those data sources together on Microsoft Azure, creating a unified data platform designed to improve access to insights while strengthening security, governance and collaboration across care and research.
But what makes this especially exciting is what that foundation makes possible next.
With connected, secure data in Azure, UMass Memorial is creating the foundation to responsibly apply AI at scale. As part of the initiative, Accenture will introduce agentic AI tools designed to automate complex workflows and uncover insights that previously required significant manual effort.
This is where I believe there is an enormous opportunity for health systems. AI transformation doesn’t simply start with AI. It starts with trusted data, strong security and governance, and a cloud foundation that allows AI and agents to create real value. In healthcare, that can mean faster access to insights, less administrative burden for caregivers, stronger connections between care and research, and ultimately more time focused on patients.
I loved how Eric Dickson, MD described the vision: building a stronger foundation for how UMass Memorial delivers care today and into the future. And Mike Weissel captured something I believe deeply: better access to insights creates an opportunity to deliver better care.
Congratulations to the incredible teams across UMass Memorial Health, Accenture and Microsoft bringing this vision to life. I’m proud Microsoft gets to be part of the journey, and excited to see how this foundation enables the next generation of data, AI and agentic innovation across healthcare.
