Armads are desert-dwelling armadillo enemies introduced in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. They can curl into a ball to quickly roll down slopes and across sandy terrain. Armads are covered in orange plating and appear to have black-colored underbellies. While walking their armor appears to have two bands, but they are revealed to have four when they curl up. Their eyes have gray irises and are surrounded by a black mask-like pattern. They apparently keep their heads raised and breathe through their nose as they walk through the desert.[1] When curled, their nose is positioned in the center of their bodies.

Their ability to curl into a ball is invocative of three-banded armadillos, the only real armadillos capable of doing so. Curled Armads are physically reminiscent of paddle tires.

History[edit]

Super Mario Bros. Wonder[edit]

Armads rolling down a slope in Sunbaked Desert Special Pole Block Allure

Armads appear only in the Sunbaked Desert course Armads on the Roll and the Special World one Sunbaked Desert Special Pole Block Allure. Armads slowly walk back and forth on flat terrain, be it solid ground or sand. When a player character enters their line of sight, they curl into balls and speedily roll at them. Direct contact damages the player character, but they stop when stomped. Armads remain curled when stomped, allowing the player to pick them up and toss them like a Koopa Shell. Armads also curl up into balls and roll when they reach slopes, regardless of whether a player character is in front of them. Some rolling Armads are trailed by lines of coins, and one is trailed by a 10-flower coin in Sunbaked Desert Special Pole Block Allure.

Though Armads on the Roll and Sunbaked Desert Special Pole Block Allure are the only courses to feature the enemy, they also appear on the overworld of the Sunbaked Desert.

Minecraft[edit]

In the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack in Minecraft, armadillos are retextured to look like Armads. They are the first enemies introduced in Super Mario Bros. Wonder to appear in another title.
