Coin Heavens[1][2][3] are hidden sub-areas in the sky in certain levels in the Super Mario series. The player character can collect several coins here before taking an exit back to the main level.

History[edit]

Super Mario Bros.[edit]

A Bonus Stage[4][5] (also called the Sky Bonus[6] or Cloud Bonus[7]) first appears in Super Mario Bros. It can be accessed by first revealing and then climbing beanstalk from certain blocks.[8] A Coin Heaven features several Cloud Blocks and a cloud platform that the player character can ride before returning to the main level. There Invincible Mario theme is played in Coin Heaven, but Super Mario All-Stars version uses a unique theme for coin-filled subareas in general. The Challenge mode of Super Mario Bros. Deluxe has a 10,000-point "Perfect Bonus" for collecting every coin in Coin Heaven.

Super Mario Bros. 3[edit]

The player character accesses Coin Heaven differently in Super Mario Bros. 3, by revealing and then jumping from an invisible Magic Note Block. Coin Heavens are auto-scrolling, unlike before, and the player character collects coins up to reaching a Warp Pipe that returns them to the main level. Certain Coin Heavens have a hidden Brick Block with a 1-Up Mushroom, revealed by flying up to there as either Raccoon Mario or Tanooki Mario.[citation needed] The Coin Heaven theme is the same as in the sky portion of Sky Land and the Warp Zone.

Super Mario World[edit]

The method of accessing Coin Heaven in Super Mario World is namely from riding a Yoshi equipped with Yoshi's Wings. Dragon Coins sometimes appear in Coin Heaven. Unlike before, reaching the end of Coin Heaven takes the player to the end of the level.

New Super Mario Bros. subseries[edit]

Beanstalks are used in New Super Mario Bros. and its sequels to enter Coin Heaven, like in the first Super Mario Bros., though there is more layout variety for Coin Heavens. A Star Coin appears in several of the Coin Heavens. New Super Mario Bros. 2 introduces the similar Rainbow Courses, unlockable in each world by ending a level with two digits of the timer matching the world number.

Super Mario 3D Land[edit]

Coin Heavens are accessible from a Super Note Block in several courses of Super Mario 3D Land. Most Coin Heavens are 2D sidescrolling and have a single ? Block containing a Super Star, allowing the player to defeat the five Biddybuds or Para-Biddybuds for a 1-Up. Other Coin Heavens have several cloud platforms that scroll up, often starting with coins arranged to say "3D," since not having the 3D depth on shows an isometric view instead. There is a Star Medal at the end of a Coin Heaven.

Super Mario 3D World / Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[edit]

Coin Heavens are entered through using Cloud Cannons in Super Mario 3D World. Coin Heavens are similar to the previous game, except they are always laid out in a sidescrolling manner, starting with either a ? Block containing a Super Star or a Potted Piranha Plant for defeating the eight enemies along the way and lastly obtaining the Green Star at the end. Bowser's Fury features Coin Heavens in a similar manner, except Mario can earn a Cat Shine by defeating every enemy there.

Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros.[edit]

Occasionally in the digital clock for Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros., Mario can find a vine that leads to the Coin Heaven from World 2-1.
