Super Mario Bros. Wonder Beginner Tips is a set of three articles published on the American Nintendo websites (those being the United States,[1][2][5] Canadian,[7][8][9] Brazilian,[10][11][12] and Mexican[13][14][15] websites), and then later on the Australian website as well.[3][4][6] The first article is called Super Mario Bros. Wonder Beginner Tips Part 1: Power-ups (referred to as Get a jump on Super Mario Bros. Wonder with these powerful power-ups in the article's header), the second one is called Super Mario Bros. Wonder Beginner Tips Part 2: Online Play (referred to as Share the wonder with online play! in the article's header), and the third one is called Super Mario Bros. Wonder Beginner Tips Part 3: Finding Secrets (referred to as Super Mario Bros. Wonder: Here’s a few tips for secret seekers! in the article's header).
The first article is a general overview of some power-ups found in the game, the second article explains the basics of online play, and the third article gives some tips on the secrets found throughout the game. The first article released on November 7, 2023,[1] with the Australian one releasing on November 20, 2023,[3] the second article released on November 13, 2023,[2] with the Australian one releasing on December 1, 2023,[4] and the third article released on January 9, 2024,[5] with the Australian one releasing on January 16, 2024.[6]
Aside from minor formatting changes, there are no differences between the American and Australian versions of the first and third articles. The second article, however, features the same text, but all 6 images are not present in the Australian version; the American version has them all in a scroll tab at the top, whereas the Australian version has 3 different images throughout the article instead. The gallery will state which images from the Australian version. Each version of article 2 also contains the Overview Trailer for the game; the American one is directly uploaded to the article whereas the Australian one uses their YouTube channel's upload.
Part 1: Power-ups[edit]
Website description[edit]
- Get a jump on Super Mario Bros. Wonder with these powerful power-ups
- The Super Mario Bros.™ Wonder game has been out and about since October, which means it’s a prime time for some quick tips. We have a few tips articles in the works, so keep an eye on your Nintendo Switch News feed for more content.
- Let’s power ahead with some power-ups!
Content[edit]
- Let’s talk about the elephant in the room. You’ll really pack(yderm) a punch with this transformation!
- You’ll get some extra strength in Elephant form, so use it to your advantage. Break blocks and push stuff with some extra oomph!
- Your trunk is great for swatting both enemies and blocks. Don’t forget that you can also crouch and swing your trunk as well (elephants never forget, but you might!).
- Oftentimes, you’ll hold a bit of spare water in your trunk when you get wet. Try swinging your trunk to spray this water on a wilted flower bud or something hot to see what happens. (Or perhaps on a Goomba too ... )
- Try saying “Wowie zowie!” out loud when you transform. It won’t change anything at all, but it might feel right.
- Bubble, bubble, toil and wonder! This transformation is ideal for taking down enemies and performing tricky jumps.
- True to its name, this power is all about bubbles. You’re able to make bubbles that home in on certain enemies and instantly defeat them.
- If you’re feeling extra fancy, use these bubbles as makeshift platforms. Bubbles move in a straight line in front of you, so some careful planning and jumping will get you far ... literally. Just remember that bubbles will pop once you jump on them.
- Make bubbles while doing a spin jump to release bubbles to the right and left of you at the same time. This can be handy when you’re surrounded by enemies.
- You’ll know the drill after this quick overview. This power-up is great for players who like to sneak around undercover.
- Tilt down the Left Stick to burrow under certain types of ground. While underground, try to position yourself directly under an enemy and then jump up—this can be an easy way to defeat them. And if you press down while in the air, you’ll be able to drill through certain things below you.
- Try jumping into certain ceilings as well. Explore around while you’re up there—some ceilings may even take you to hidden areas.
- The drill on top of your head might also give you extra protection from enemies that fall on you. What a pointed lesson to learn!
- Get fired up with the Fire Flower! It’s a classic for a reason.
- (You might be familiar with this one already, but it’s always nice to get a refresher.) Launch fireballs that bounce around! They may also give you an edge against icy blocks.
- Remember that you can also toss fireballs while crouching.
- Like the Bubble form, try doing a spin jump while shooting fireballs.
- Alrighty, that covers the power-ups*. The next article is about online play, so join us then!

Part 2: Online Play[edit]
Website description[edit]
- Share the wonder with online play!
- In the Super Mario Bros.™ Wonder game, you can jump into unexpected adventure with Mario and his friends. But did you know that you can also adventure with friends, family, and even folks you’ve never met from all around the world while playing online*?! Yeah!
- In this tips article, we’ll be going over the ins and outs of online play!
Content[edit]
- How to hop into online play
- Once you head into Pipe-Rock Plateau, speak to Professor Connect, a friendly character that looks a little like a satellite. This will open the Online Status screen where you’ll be able to turn the network connection on or off. You can do this straight from the Main Menu next time to speed things up.
- After you’ve connected to online play, you may notice faint shadows of characters on the World Map and in courses. These faint shadows are other players from all over the world who are adventuring at the same time as you!
- Take a single-player journey—together!
- So, what can these shadows do, you ask?
- If you’re worried about someone taking your Power-ups, the good news is these live player shadows will not interfere with your game. The better news is that this mode is all about helping each other out!
- Help each other finish the course
- While in online play, if you’re defeated, you’ll notice some interesting changes. Mostly, you become a ghost!
- As a ghost, a small countdown timer will appear next to you. If that countdown hits zero, your ghostly journey will end and you’ll have to restart the level from the beginning or at your last checkpoint.
- But there’s hope!
- Bump into another player to be revived
- Use your new ghostly ability to pass through walls and floors to head directly towards a live player shadow. If you touch a player shadow before the countdown reaches zero, you’ll be revived on the spot without losing a life!
- Oh, and if you notice a ghostly player, make your way over to them to assist with a bump back to life.
- Becoming an up-standee citizen
- Another way you can help your fellow adventurers is by placing standees. Player ghosts can bump into standees to be revived—just like when they bump into other online players! By crouching and hitting the X Button, you can post a standee of your character just about anywhere in a course.
- It may be a nice idea to place a standee around tricky spots to help any other online players having trouble there.
- Gray standees
- These standees are ones placed by other players in the past. If they’re gray, you won’t be able to use them to revive yourself. But if you touch them, they will activate, allowing you to revive yourself if you need them later.
- Search Party courses
- In these courses, you’ll need to find all the hidden Wonder Tokens. Are they in the foreground? The background? Maybe there’s a block that appears for you that other players can’t see? Who knows! Work with other players to piece out the puzzles.
- You may even see a floating standee. Hm...wonder what that’s floating on?
- In the upper left corner, you’ll notice an item on reserve. Hold the A Button to either take the item or leave it for another player. A player revived by a standee may appreciate it.
- Ways to play with friends
- Subtly connecting with players around the world can be tons of fun, but if you’re looking to enjoy the game with a few of your close friends, you can do that, too!
- To start, head back to your Main Menu, then go to Online Status. Once there, hit the X Button to Play with Friends. From here, you can choose to create a room or find a room. Once you’re in a shared room, you can see what courses everyone is playing. Enter a course together or try to race each other—the choice is yours. Remember Search Party courses? Try tackling those with friends, too!
- Care for a friendly race?
- If you’re playing with friends online, you can have a Friend Race on certain courses.
- After your group has entered one of these courses, you’ll see a Race Block.
- Players can enter the race by hitting the checkered block. Once two or more players have entered, the race will begin.
- When you see the green “START!” at the top of the screen, make a run for it! The Goal Pole isn’t the only way to finish the course. In some cases, the goal could be a Wonder Seed or a treasure chest.
- Whether you’re casually connecting with players around the world or syncing up with friends, we hope you enjoy your gameplay experience with online play!
Part 3: Finding Secrets[edit]
Website description[edit]
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder: Here’s a few tips for secret seekers!
- Mario and friends often find themselves among unusual baddies, tricky platforms, and picky power-ups. But sometimes there’s something secret that comes up on their adventures.
- The Super Mario Bros.™ Wonder game continues this fine tradition, so let’s get you in the mood for a little secret finding! We’re not going to spoil anything specific here (or they wouldn’t be a secret), but we’ll point out a couple things you may not know.
Content[edit]
- Collectibles, green checkmarks, and you
- OK, let’s start with collectibles. Collectibles won’t always be out in the open, so check suspicious corners, crouch over pipes (especially ones that extend past the bottom of the course or look a bit different), and touch as many Wow Buds as you can to get coins or open pathways (they look like little glowing flower buds ... not to be confused with Talking Flowers ... who talk).
- Tip: You may need to play a course multiple times before you find everything. As a fun little extra, try swapping the Talking Flower voice language in the Settings menu when you replay courses. This won’t help you find any secrets, but it would be very international of you to try!
- Most courses have at least one Wonder Seed, three 10-flower coins, and a flagpole. Yep, that flagpole isn’t just a way to end the course: If you’re able to touch the very top of it, it counts as a gold flagpole.
- Tip: If you’re having trouble getting to the top, try equipping a badge (like the Parachute Cap badge) before starting a course, or use a midair spin with the R Button.
- The game keeps track of all this stuff by the way. When you’re on the world map, press the + Button and select “Courses.” You’ll see an overview of everything you’ve found thus far. If you’ve found everything in a course, you’ll see a faint green checkmark in the background.
- Tip: If you’ve found everything in the World, you’ll see that green checkmark in the top right of the screen. You can also check on your collectibles while playing a course.
- Wait, what if I found everything and there’s no checkmark?
- Ah, something tricky is going on, isn’t there? This situation means that the course also has a secret path. These secret paths may lead to an extra Wonder Seed, additional courses, or even a familiar face. There are also Special World courses to find that will really test your skills!
- Tip: No spoilers here, but have you found the secret path in "Piranha Plants on Parade" yet? Hmm, where can it be?
- Blocks that feel seen
- Did you know that some invisible blocks may become visible depending on which character you play as? These Hidden Character Blocks have little icons that match your character and contain helpful stuff. Try different characters when you’re replaying a level.
- Tip: Oh, and no matter which character you play as, it’s still possible to jump up and hit a Hidden Character Block (it will just be invisible to you until you hit it). And if you’re playing online*, other players may drop a standee on these invisible blocks—so be on the lookout for standees that seem to float!
- An overworld overview
- Secrets aren’t just in the courses! When you’re freely running around on the world map, try to check behind objects, sneak around corners, and be an overall nosy person. You can even find pathways to new areas.
- Tip: You’ll find secrets all over, but pay special attention to World 4: Sunbaked Desert.
- OK, that’s it for now! Even after beating the game, hunting for secrets might be a fun way to extend your time in the Flower Kingdom. Hmm, makes you wonder if there’s something super secret for players who 100% each World ...
