* How can we turn these empty plastic bottles into useful materials?
B. Exploration:
1. Divide the class into groups.
2. Have the pupils perform the L.M. Activity 4A -4D: “ The Recycling process”.
3. Give other necessary instructions in doing the activity (i.e. allotted time for
the activity, the data table to be accomplished, group presenter/member’s
role/responsibility, precautionary measures to take, etc.).

”. 4. Let each group answer all the questions in their assigned activity.
5. Supervise the pupils while they are doing the activity.
C. Explanation
1. Let the pupils report their output by groups.
2. Check the pupils’ responses to the following activity questions while discussing the
activity:
a. What did you do with the given materials?
(We create useful materials out of the recyclable given materials.)
b. How do you call that process? (Recycling)
c. What is recycling process?

D. Elaboration
1. Have the pupils construct and express their own understanding by asking this
question:
*What is recycling process?
(The pupils should be able to understand that recycling is a process of
converting materials into reusable objects to prevent waste of potentially useful
materials)
*What are the materials that can be recycled? (answers may vary)
2. (Valuing)
*Do we need to recycle? Why?
(Yes, to lessen the amount of garbage in our community. It also serves as
livelihood for many Filipinos and helps in the beautification of our
surroundings.)

E. Evaluation:
Put check (/) if the statement is correct about recycling and cross (X) if not.
____1. Recycling is a process of converting materials into reusable ones.
____2. Through recycling, we are increasing the amount of garbage in our
community.
____3. There are new and useful products produce through recycling.
____4. We can recycle old newspaper, empty plastic bottles, straws, and rugs to
produce useful materials.
____5. Recycling is an important mean in waste management.
IV. Assignment:
Given these pile of recyclable materials, come up with your own innovations.
Write specific steps to follow to come up with the final output or draw a blue print for
you to follow. Draw and describe your new product.

Lesson 4A: The Recycling Process

Objectives:
1. Identify the recycling process
2. Construct useful materials from waste through recycling
3. Aware on the importance of recycling in our daily life
What you Need:
 2 empty plastic bottles 1pc. glue gun 1 pc. Scissors 1pc.cutter
 1pc. Zipper 1pc. zipper slider 1pc. used ribbon
What To Do:
Caution: Be careful in using the scissors and cutter.
1. Prepare all the materials needed from the supplies list.
2. Clean the edges of the plastic using scissors.
3. Hot glue 1 side of the zipper to 1 plastic bottom.
4. Cut the excess zipper. Make a 1 cm overlapping allowance to the zipper.
5. Carefully insert the zipper slider now to the zipper teeth.
6. Test the slider to make sure its working.

Lesson 4B: The Recycling Process

Objectives:
1. Identify the recycling process
2. Construct useful materials from waste through recycling
3. Aware on the importance of recycling in our daily life
What you Need:
 1 pc. of 20-ounce soda bottle pencil (for marking) scissors
What To Do:
Caution: Be careful in using the scissors.
1. Mark and cut the smooth middle portion of the bottle to give an even edge that’s
approximately 7.5 to 8 centimeters above desired position of fluted rim.
2. Measure and mark straight, evenly spaced cuts all the way around the bottle. Cut the
segments in half; then cut each of those in half to make even, thin strips.
3. Carefully press and fold all the strips outward to make a level edge all the way
around. Press the bottle upside down on a flat surface to ensure an even edge.
4. Weave the tip of a strip over the next one and under the next two. Fold and crease it
so that the tip is at the place (see visual representation below).
5. Fold and crease the next one the same way, but weave this one over two and under
one. Fold the third strip and weave the same as the first one. Continue around in this
pattern until the last three and tuck each one under the next until woven in
completely.

What you Need:

 plastic bottles
 permanent marker
 pliers
 heat gun

What To Do:
Caution: Be careful in using the heat gun..
1. Wash and cut plastic bottles into strips that are about 1 centimeter wide. Cut strips
into a point.
2. Color plastic strips with permanent marker.
3. Roll up plastic and secure with pliers. Use heat gun to melt and hold bead shape
together. Let dry.
