MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn, approx. 50 yards
6.5 mm crochet hook
Yarn needle
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Chain 14, slip stitch to join, being careful not to twist the chain.
2. Chain 2, double crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join.
3. Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join.
4. Working in a spiral, and working in the back side of the stitch only:
    single crochet in each stitch, until the work is approx. 8 inches long.
5. Single crochet in every 2nd stitch for one round reducing to 7 stitches.
6. Single crochet in each stitch for one round.
7. Make the fin: Fold the work flat, work into both sides closing up the bottom: chain 2,
    Double crochet in each stitch across the row (folded in half).
    *Chain 2 and turn, make 2 double crochet in each stitch across. (7 or 8, exact number not important.)
    Repeat from * for 2 more rows, increasing to 12-14 stitches, then to 24 - 28 stitches, fasten off.
    Optional: Leave the fin spread out, or take a few stitches to gather up the center, see photos below.
    Weave all yarn ends into the finished work.
