Summer with the Elves
by Linnéa Katarina
Figure 1: Front and back of the top.
1 Information
Gauge (In Chart 1 pattern): 28 × 34 st on 10 × 10 cm.
Yarn: Viking of Norway Bambino
Needles: 3 mm
The top is worked bottom-up. The pattern comes in one size which has a bust circumference of 90 cm
(measured flat, after wet-blocking). This fits comfortably a bust circumference of 94 cm, as shown in
Fig. 1. The lower part of the body is worked in a lace pattern that deliberately creates holes in the
work. Over the bust and shoulders the lace pattern is altered to minimize the transparency of the top.
It is possible to work the less transparent pattern across the whole top (see Body section). This will
make the top slightly tighter.

2 Body
Cast on 252 sts. Work Chart 1 with 18 pattern repeats per row. Repeat the chart 4 times (the work
measures about 16.5 cm). In Chart 1 the yo increases creates holes in the work. For the remainder of
the work the yo increases will be worked through the back loops to make the top less see-through. To
get increases leaning out from the center of the leaf, the yo increases around the center stitch of the
leaf are worked in the following way:
Row 1: yo from back to front, knit, yo
Row 2: knit, knit, knit tbl
The increases on the next rows are worked in the same fashion. Repeat Chart 1 with the altered
increases another 2.5 times. On the third round, stop after row 8. The top should measure about 27
cm.

3 Split body into front and back
Place marker after 70 sts (middle front). Place marker after another 56 sts (end of right front). Place
marker after another 13 sts (Start of right back). Place marker after 57 sts (middle back).
After the separation into front and back the work is knitted back and forth. The yo increases are
worked as:
RS: yo from back to front, knit, yo
WS: purl tbl, purl, purl

3.1 Left front
Row 1 (RS): Bind off 13 sts. Knit in pattern until marker the last stitch before the marker. Knit last
st. Place the remaining stitches on a holder.
Row 2 (WS): Slip first stitch purlwise, knit in pattern to last st, knit the last st.
Row 3 (RS): Slip first stitch purlwise, knit in pattern to last st, knit the last st.
Continue repeating rows 2-3. From row 9 the increases on the final leaf on the row are skipped and
the final six stitches of the row are worked as purl 2, knit 1, purl 2, knit 1. Continue working in this
pattern.
From row 18 the increases on the second to last leaf on the row are skipped and the final 9 stitches
of the row are worked as purl 2, knit 1, purl 2, knit 1, purl 2, knit 1.
Continue decreasing like this on every 9th row until you have no remaining leaves (see Fig. 3 for
how this is supposed to look like) . You should have 25 st remaining. Continue knitting in the following
pattern (that should be already established) until the shoulder band measures 23 cm from the armpit:
Lift one st, repeat *purl 2, knit 1* 8 times. Bind off stiches.
