PATTERN

Workflow
Suri Shirt is created by first working the shoulders, then joining the shoulders and
casting on additional stitches to create the neckline. Front is worked to under arm
with some increases to shape the armholes. Front is then placed on hold while
the back section is worked in similar manner. Both pieces are then joined to work
the body section in the round.

Front Left Shoulder

Using US 2.5 / 3.00 mm, 60 - 80 cm / 32” circular needles and long tail cast on
method, cast on 24, (26), 28, (30), 34, (38), 42, (44), 46 stitches.

Row 1 (ws): purl all stitches.

Row 2 (rs): knit all stitches.
Row 3 (ws): purl all stitches.
Repeat rows 2 and 3: 7, (7), 8, (8), 8, (9), 9, (9), 9 more times.

You have now worked total of 17, (17), 19, (19), 19, (21), 21, (21), 21 rows.

3
Next, you will make a few increases to shape the neckline, you will do so in the
following way:
Row 1 (rs): knit 3, m1L, knit to end.
Row 2 (ws): purl to end.

Repeat rows 1 and 2: 8, (8), 8, (8), 8, (8), 8, (8), 8 more times.

Now you have 33, (35), 37, (39), 43, (47), 51, (53), 55 stitches on your needles.

Cut the yarn, leaving a tail (this will be tucked in later), and let the stitches rest on
scrap yarn or another same size needle while you work the right shoulder.

Front Right Shoulder

Next, you will make a few increases to shape the neckline, you will do so in the
following way:
Row 1 (rs): knit until there are 3 stitches remaining, m1R, knit 3.
Row 2 (ws): purl to end.

Repeat rows 1 and 2: 8, (8), 8, (8), 8, (8), 8, (8), 8 more times.

Now you have 33, (35), 37, (39), 43, (47), 51, (53), 55 stitches on your needles.

Do not cut yarn, work will continue from this point on.

4
Front
Now you are ready to join the front and cast on new stitches between the two
shoulders to create the neckline. You will do so in the following way:
Using US 2.5 / 3.00 mm, 60 - 80 cm / 24 - 32” circular needles, working from the
right side knit 33, (35), 37, (39), 43, (47), 51, (53), 55 stitches of the right shoulder,
when you get to the end using backward loop method, cast on 34, (36), 36, (36),
36, (36), 38, (38), 38 new stitches, then continuously knit 33, (35), 37, (39), 43,
(47), 51, (53), 55 stitches of the left shoulder (stitches that were on hold).

Now you have 100, (106), 110, (114), 122, (130), 140, (144), 148 stitches on your
needles.

Work flat (back and forth) in stockinette stitch an additional 11, (11), 13, (13), 13,
(15), 15, (15), 15 rows, ending on a wrong side, next row is the right side row.

Work now measures *approximately 14, (14), 15, (15), 15, (16), 16, (16), 16 cm /
5½”, (5½”), 6", (6"), 6”, (6¼”), 6¼”, (6¼“), 6¼" measured from the shoulder cast on
edge.

Next, you will make increases on each end to shape the armholes, you will do so
in the following way:
Row 1 (rs): knit 3, m1L, knit until there are 3 stitches remaining, m1R, knit 3.
Row 2 (ws): Purl all stitches.

Repeat rows 1 and 2: 8, (11), 12, (14), 16, (16), 16, (18), 18 more times.

Now you have 118, (130), 136, (144), 156, (164), 174, (182), 186 stitches on your
needles.

Work now measures *approximately 19, (20), 22, (23), 25, (26), 26, (27), 27 cm /
7½”, (8”), 8½", (9"), 9¾”, (10¼”), 10¼”, (10½“), 10½" measured from the shoulder
cast on edge.

Cut yarn leaving a tail and place stitches of the front on hold on scrap yarn or
another same size needle while you work the following steps.

5
Back left shoulder
Place the front piece that you just created so that the right side of work is facing
you. Using US 2.5 / 3.00 mm, 60 - 80 cm / 32” circular needles pick up and knit 24,
(26), 28, (30), 34, (38), 42, (44), 46 stitches from the left hand side of the piece.
Work the same as the front left shoulder.

Back Right Shoulder

Using US 2.5 / 3.00 mm, 60 - 80 cm circular needles pick up and knit 24, (26), 28,
(30), 34, (38), 42, (44), 46 stitches from the right hand side of the piece.
Work the same as the front right shoulder.

Back
Now you are ready to join the back and cast on new stitches between the two
back shoulders to create the neckline. You will do so in the following way:
Using US 2.5 / 3.00 mm, 60 - 80 cm / 32” circular needles, working from the right
side knit 33, (35), 37, (39), 43, (47), 51, (53), 55 stitches of the right back shoulder,
when you get to the end using backward loop method, cast on 34, (36), 36, (36),
36, (36), 38, (38), 38 new stitches, then continuously knit 33, (35), 37, (39), 43,
(47), 51, (53), 55 stitches of the left back shoulder (stitches that were on hold).

Now you have 100, (106), 110, (114), 122, (130), 140, (144), 148 stitches on your
needles.

6
Work flat (back and forth) in stockinette stitch an additional 11, (11), 13, (13), 13,
(15), 15, (15), 15 rows, ending on a wrong side, next row is the right side row.

Work now measures *approximately 14, (14), 15, (15), 15, (16), 16, (16), 16 cm /
5½”, (5½”), 6", (6"), 6”, (6¼”), 6¼”, (6¼“), 6¼" measured from the shoulder cast on
edge.

Next, you will make increase on each end to shape the armholes, you will do so in
the following way:

Do not cut yarn, work will continue from this point on.

Body
Now you are ready to join the back with the front and cast on new stitches under
each arm, this will create armhole openings and the body section will be worked
seamlessly in the round. You will do so in the following way:

Using US 2.5 / 3.00 mm, 80 cm / 32” circular needles, working from the right side
knit 118, (130), 136, (144), 156, (164), 174, (182), 186 stitches of the back
(stitches that are already on your needles), when you get to the end, using
backwards loop method cast on 10, (10), 12, (12), 12, (12), 14, (14), 22 new
stitches, then continuously knit the 118, (130), 136, (144), 156, (164), 174, (182),
186 stitches of the front (stitches that were on hold), when you get to the end
using backwards loop method cast on another 10, (10), 12, (12), 12, (12), 14, (14),
22 new stitches. Place a marker under the left armhole to mark the beginning of
the round.

7
Now you have 256, (280), 296, (312), 336, (352), 376, (392), 416 stitches on your
needles.

Continue knitting in the round in stockinette stitch, until the body measures:

Standard length: 43, (45), 46, (48), 50, (51), 53, (54), 55 cm, approximately 17”,
(17¾"), 18”, (18¾”), 19¾”, (20“), 20¾“, (21¼”), 21¾” or your preferred length,
measured from the top shoulder cast on edge. Keep in mind that ribbing will add
another 10 - 12 cm /4” - 5½”. See hint below.

Slightly cropped: 39, (40), 42, (43), 45, (47), 48, (50), 52 cm, approximately 15¼”,
(15¾"), 16½”, (17”), 17¾”, (18½“), 19“, (19¾”), 21½” or your preferred length,
measured from the top shoulder cast on edge. Keep in mind that ribbing will add
another 10 - 12 cm /4” - 5½”. See hint below.

Hint: If you are using the recommended yarn or any yarn that grows or shrinks
after blocking, be sure to take this factor in consideration.
For example, Tussah Tweed grew approximately 3-4 cm / 1”-1½” after blocking,
this means you will need to knit 3-4 cm / 1”- 1½” shorter than stated above in
order to achieve the recommended length.

Next, divide the stitches into front and back (placing another marker under the
right arm is helpful), now you have 128, (140), 148, (156), 168, (176), 188, (196),
208 for the front, and 128, (140), 148, (156), 168, (176), 188, (196), 208 for the
back. These two sections are worked flat (back and forth), this will create two slits
on each side of the body.

Using US 1.5 / 2.50 mm needles, work shorter section first, this will be the front,
you will do so in the following way:

Row 1 (rs): knit 1, wyif s1pw, knit 1, purl 2 stitches, *knit 2 stitches, purl 2
stitches*, repeat * to * until there are 3 stitches remaining, knit 1, wyif s1pw, knit
1.
Row 2 (ws): wyif s1pw, knit 1, wyif s1pw, knit 2 stitches, *purl 2 stitches, knit 2
stitches*, repeat * to * until there are 3 stitches remaining, wyif s1pw, knit 1, wyif
s1pw.

8
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until ribbing measures 10 cm / 4” in 2x2 (k2, p2) rib.

Bind off using 2x2 Italian bind off, see video example here. If 2x2 bind off is used,
first and last two stitches of the rib will need to be worked together.

Hint: 2x2 Italian bind off can be worked by aligning the stitches to k1, p1 in the
last row /round, then bound off as normal 1x1 Italian bind off. See video example
here.

Work the stitches of the back in the same manner as the front ribbing except
work until back rib measures 12 cm / 4 ¾”.

Sleeves
Sleeve stitches are picked up along the armhole opening and worked in the round
in 2 x 2 rib stitch (k2, p2) using US 1.5 / 2.50 mm, 40 cm / 16” circular needles or
double-pointed needles or magic loop method.

Working from the right side, starting under arm, pick up and knit 96, (104), 112,
(120), 124, (132), 136, (140), 144 stitches. That is a ratio of approximately 2
stitches per 3 rows and 1 stitch per each stitch under arm (stitches that were
previously casted under arm). Place bor m under arm to mark the beginning of
round.
Work in the round in 2 x 2 rib (k2, p2) until sleeve ribbing measures 4.5 cm / 1¾“

Bind off from the right side using 2x2 Italian bind off technique. Do the same for
the other sleeve.

Neckline
Working from the right side, with US 1.5 / 2.50 mm, 40 cm / 16” (or slightly
longer) circular needles start at the shoulder join, pick up and knit 176, (180), 184,
(184), 184, (192), 196, (196), 196 stitches.

That is a ratio of approximately 3 stitches per 4 rows alongside the shoulders and
neckline increases, and 1 stitch per each stitch in the front and back (where you
cast on additional stitches). Aim for gauge of 24 - 26 stitches per 10 cm / 4”. *See
gauge.

9
Work in 2x2 (k2, p2) rib until neckline ribbing measures 4.5 cm / 1¾”.

Bind off using 2x2 Italian bind off technique. See hint about the bind off above.

Finish
Tuck in all yarn ends and block your shirt to size.
