Augustins
NO. 1o
“ Augustins no. 10 is a sculptural and volumi-
nous blouse, which is shaped to have a beautiful
draped effect from the yoke and down.
The construction of the blouse is simplistic,
which makes it a great beginners project.
                              Happy knitting. ”

Augustins no.9
Size : a (b) c (d) e (f) g (h).
Your bust circumference : 80 (90) 100 (110) 120 (130) 140 (150) cm.
Full length, measured CF below the neckline : 52 (54) 56 (58) 60 (62) 64 (66) cm.
Positive ease : This blouse has a wide positive ease, beginning from the upper part of the yoke
and downwards. The positive ease is at 30-40 cm, depending on your bust circumference - this
is to secure the wide and airy fit, which is characteristic for the design. When you’re deciding
which size to knit, choose the one which corresponds to your own actual bust circumference.
Gauge : 16 sts x 22 rows = 10 x 10 cm in Stockinette Stitch.
Needle size : Circular needles 4,5 + 5,5 + 6 mm ( 40 / 60 / 80 cm).
Yarn : The blouse is knitted with 2 types of yarn held together.
1. thread: New Zealandsk Lammeuld, G-uld (450 m pr 100g).
2. thread: Soft Silk Mohair, Knitting For Olive (225 m pr 25g).
Amount :
1. thread: 200 (200) 250 (300) 350 (400) 450 (500)g.
2. thread: 100 (100) 125 (150) 175 (200) 225 (250)g.
Other : 1-1,5 m of thin elastic band for the sleeves.
Work : The blouse is knitted in the round in Stockinette Stitch, from the top and downwards.
First, the high folded neckline is knitted and hereafter the yoke is shaped by using the technique
German Short Rows. To give the blouse its airy and draped effect, double increases are made
at the upper part of the yoke, which will also secure that it becomes longer in the back. The
remaining yoke, as well as body, is then worked in the round until reaching the bottom edge,
where a finishing i-cord is knitted. The puffy sleeves are shaped by rounds of increasing and
decreasing and are finished with an i-cord edge. Lastly, a thin elastic band is inserted from the
WS into 2 rows on each sleeve to make them puffy.
Pattern
Before you begin
Please read the entire pattern before casting on.
Be sure to make a swatch before you begin, to ensure the right gauge.
German short rows: To secure the shape of the body, the technique ‘German short rows’ is
being used. If you’re not familiar with the method, a helpful video guide, created by Kimmie
Munkholm, can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-E3YSHPQYs.
Increasing method 1: When increases are made to shape the yoke and sleeves, left leaning
increases are used. The increases are knitted in the following way:
m1L: Work to the place where the increase is to be made. Insert the left side
needle from front to back into the horizontal strand between the two stitches.
Knit the stitch through the back loop.
Increasing method, 2: When increases are made to shape the yoke, the method KFBF is
used. If you’re not familiar with the method, a helpful video guide, created by Garnstudio,
can be found at https://www.garnstudio.com/video.php?id=237&lang=dk.
Decreasing method: When decreases are made to shape the sleeves, the method k2tog is
used.
Neckline
With circular needle 4,5 mm, cast on 76 (78) 80 (82) 84 (86) 88 (90) sts with yarn held
double-stranded and place a M between the first and last st = BOR and CB.
The blouse is worked in Stockinette Stitch throughout the whole pattern.
K in the rnd until the work measures 16 cm in total.
Place a M after 8 cm - the M indicates the row where the neckline later must be folded to
create the double layered neckline.
Let the sts rest on the needle.
The neckline must now be folded by the marked row.
The folded edge is created by using the ‘3-needle method’. Continue in the following way:
With a new set of circular needles 4,5 mm, pick up 76 (78) 80 (82) 84 (86) 88 (90) sts
from the RS of the cast on row. Place the 2 needles with their WS facing each other, so
that the neckline will be knitted together from the RS.
*K2tog* (1 st from each needle) throughout the row, by using a 3rd 4,5 mm needle.
The double layered neckline has now been created.
Yoke
Switch to circular needle 6 mm and k 1 rnd.
On the next rnd, inc evenly to a total of 92 (100) 108 (116) 124 (132) 140 (148) sts.
Continue to k in the rnd until the yoke measures 6 (6) 7 (7) 8 (8) 9 (9) cm.
Place a M at each side of the yoke in the strand between 2 sts = sM1 is placed after the
23. (25.) 27. (29.) 31. (33.) 35. (37.) st and sM2 after the 69. (75.) 81. (87.) 93. (99.) 105.
(111.) st.
On the next rnd, begin to knit German Short Rows to make the blouse longer in the back.
Continue in the following way:
Start at BOR.
k until 1 st before sM1, k 1 turning st, turn, p until reaching CB.
p until 1 st before sM2, p 1 turning st, turn, k until reaching CB.
*k until 2 sts before the previous turn, k 1 turning st, turn, p until reaching CB.
p until 2 sts before the previous turn, p 1 turning st, turn, k until reaching CB.*
Continue to turn as described above *-*, with 2 sts to the previous turn each time.
Repeat until you have turned 6 (6) 7 (7) 8 (8) 9 (9) 10 (10) times in total on each side of
CB.
K 1 rnd.
On the next rnd, double increases must be made to secure the draping of the blouse.
This is done in the following way:
*KFBF* throughout the rnd.
There is now a total of 276 (300) 324 (348) 372 (396) 420 (444) sts on the needle.
Continue to k in the rnd until the yoke is 21 (22) 23 (24) 25 (26) 27 (28) cm in total,
measured CF below the neckline.
On the next rnd, divide the work for body and sleeves:
K 37 (42) 47 (52) 57 (62) 67 (72) sts (= back piece), place the next 64 (66) 68 (70) 72 (74)
76 (78) sts on a stitch holder (1st sleeve), cast on 10 sts, k 74 (84) 94 (104) 114 (124) 134
(144) sts (front piece), place the next 64 (66) 68 (70) 72 (74) 76 (78) sts on a stitch holder
(2nd sleeve), cast on 10 sts, k 37 (42) 47 (52) 57 (62) 67 (72) sts (= back piece).
Body
There are now a total of 168 (188) 208 (228) 248 (268) 288 (304) sts for the body.
Continue to k in the rnd until the blouse is 47 (49) 51 (53) 55 (57) 59 (61) cm, or pre-
ferred length, measured CF below the neckline.
On the next rnd, switch to circular needle 5,5 mm and k 1 rnd.
Break the yarn and let the sts rest on the needle.
An i-cord edge must now be knitted on to the bottom of the body.
This is done in the following way:
From the RS, cast on 4 sts onto the right side needle and p the 4 sts.
The 4 sts are now at the left side needle and are placed in continuation of the body sts.
Continue by knitting the i-cord in the following way:
*k 3, k2tog tbl (1 st from the i-cord + 1 st from the body), slip the 4 sts back onto the left
side needle*.
Repeat from * to * until all sts from the body have been knitted.
Bind off, break the yarn and sew the ends of the i-cord discretely together from the WS.
Sleeves
Place the sleeve sts on circular needles 6 mm and pick up 10 sts from the underarm cast
on row.
There are now a total of 74 (76) 78 (80) 82 (84) 86 (88) sts on the needle.
Place a M in the strand between the first and last st = BOR.
K in the rnd until the sleeve is 13 (13) 14 (14) 15 (15) 16 (16) cm, measured from the
underarm cast on row and down.
Knit the next 3 rnds in the following way:
1st rnd: *k2tog* throughout the rnd. There are now a total of 37 (38) 39 (40) 41 (42) 43
(44) sts on the needle.
2nd rnd: k all sts. Place a M at this row - it marks which horisontal row the elastic band
later must be inserted into, to make the sleeve puffy.
3rd rnd: *k 1, m1L* throughout the rnd. There are now a total of 74 (76) 78 (80) 82 (84)
86 (88) sts on the needle.
K for 13 (13) 14 (14) 15 (15) 16 (16) cm.
From the next rnd, repeat rnd 1-3 as described above.
K again for 13 (13) 14 (14) 15 (15) 16 (16) cm.
On the next rnd, switch to circular needle 5,5 mm and k 1 rnd.
Break the yarn and let the sts rest on the needle.
An i-cord edge must now be knitted on to the bottom of the sleeve.
This is done in the following way:
From the RS, cast on 4 sts onto the right side needle and p the 4 sts.
The 4 sts are now at the left side needle and are placed in continuation of the sleeve sts.
Continue by knitting the i-cord in the following way:
*k 3, k2tog tbl (1 st from the i-cord + 1 st from the sleeve), slip the 4 sts back onto the
left side needle*.
Repeat from * to * until all sts from the sleeve have been knitted.
Bind off, break the yarn and sew the ends of the i-cord discretely together from the WS.
Repeat instructions for the second sleeve.
Finishing
Weave in ends. From the WS of the blouse, pull a thin elastic thread through each of the
4 marked horizontal rows - tighten and fasten, to make the sleeves puffy.
Rinse the blouse by hand in luke warm water with a bit of wool soap, then let it dry laying
flat.
