Introduction
Welcome to the stripey raglan cardi pattern! This is the written supplement to
the YouTube tutorial available on my channel.
I’d love to see your makes, so please feel free to tag me (@loupystudio) and
#loupystripecardi if you post online. Please keep in mind that this is a free
pattern, and as such I will only be able to dedicate limited time to pattern
assistance. If you are struggling with this pattern or need more detailed
instructions, I would suggest purchasing a paid pattern from one of the many
creators who have designed similar cardigans!
Thank you, and good luck <3

Description
This is a Top-Down, Raglan cardigan with a built in button band and a 2 row
stripe repeat in Colour A and Colour B.
B The cardigan is designed in a batwing
shape, with a large amount of positive ease at the bust and with a tight
ribbing panel at the waist for a cinched effect.

Yarn
This is ideally a scrap busting project. You can make this with a really wide
range of different yarns. The best yarn to use would be Aran weight/10ply,
but each colour can be made up of thinner yarns held together, such as 2x
Fingering/4ply Yarns, or 1x DK/8pl 1x Lace/2ply weight. You can also even out
the thickness of the piece by having your Colour A yarn be thicker than Colour
B.
When choosing your colours, I would advise separating them out into two piles.
The easiest way to categorise them would be light vs. dark, but you could also
separate them by colour (eg blues vs yellows). Try to always have Colour A be
the darker shade of the two - it will help you count your stripes when knitting.

every other RSA row (every other Colour A stripe).
Rep until Row 22 (RSB)

decrease is made because we need an odd number of sts for our 1x1 ribbing)
Continue knitting 1x1 ribbing until you reach your desired length, ensuring that
you are still placing button holes when needed. Then, CO loosely using your
preferred CO method - Tubular looks great!

Neckline Ribbing

(RSB): Using Ribbing Needle - 4mm (US 6) needles and Colour B yarn,
pick up 1 st through each of your neckline Cast On sts. [St count: 76]

Row 1 (WSB)
(WSB): P2, K1, P1 until 8 sts remain, then K2tog, P1, K1, P1, K1,

ribbing.)
Row 2 (RSA): Switch to Colour A, K2, P1, make 1x1 rib until 2 sts remain, K2.
Row 3 (WSA): P2, K1, P1 until 2 sts remain, P2.
Row 4 (RSB)
(RSB): Make button hole row. Work Row 2 until 4 sts remain, then YO,
K2tog, P1, K2.
Row 5 (WSB)
(WSB): P2, K1, P1 until 2 sts remain, P2.

4.
Rep Rows 2 - 5; 1 more time, then CO using preferred method. Ensure that you
use a Stretchy cast off method so that its loose enough to fit your neck.

Sleeves
Transfer the sleeve sts from the scrap yarn to your 6mm (US 10) needles, or
attach your needles to the holding cables.
Round 0 (A): Pick up 1 st through last 3 BLCO underarm st. K 35 (41) 47 sts,
place SM#1, K until end, then pick up 1 st through first 3 BLCO underarm sts,
then place SM#2. [St count: 76 (88) 100]
Round 1 (A): Knit all.
Round 2-3 (B)
(B): Switch to Colour B,
B Knit all.
Round 4 (A): Decrease row. Switch to Colour A, Knit to 2 sts before SM#1,
SSK, sl SM, K2tog, Knit to SM#2. [St count: 74 (86) 98]
Round 5 (A): Knit all.
Rep knitting in the round until desired sleeve length is reached, making a
Decrease Round in the first round of every other Colour A stripe (every 8
rounds, eg on rounds 12, 20, 28…). In the sample, this was 11 decrease
rounds, until Round 85.
Switch to Ribbing Needle - 4mm (US 6) needles, and make at least 8 rounds of
1x1 rib, then CO using your preferred CO.
Rep for the second sleeve.

Potential sizing modifications

To make larger
a. Continue making Yoke stripe repeats for longer, before moving on to
rapid increases.
b. Use a larger needle when making the waist ribbing (don’t size all the
way down to 4mm, just try 5mm).
c. Skip the body decreases.
d. Add more stitches when casting on under the underarms.
e. Use a larger needle overall.
To make smaller
a. Use 5mm or 5.5mm needles for the body.
b. Make decreases every Colour A row on the body.
c. Skip the rapid increases.
d. Reduce the number of sts you Cast On at the underarms.
