INGRID TOP

“Sleeveless top featuring a nice eyelet finish”

INGRID TOP

Ingrid top is worked from the top down. The back is knit first. Then, the front shoulders are picked
up from the shoulder edge and worked top down as you shape the neck. Finally, front and back are
joined together at the underarm and the body is knit seamlessly in the round to the hem.
The collar is worked at the end by picking up stitches and knitting along the neck edge. All edges are
finished with a folded edge.
The model in the picture is 169 cm tall and wears a size 2.

LEVEL
Intermediate (2/3)

YARN
5 (5, 5, 6) (7, 8, 8, 9) skeins of ,Field’ by Gregoria Fibers (50g = 120 yards/110 m) (43% linen, 37%
cotton and 20% silk).
430 (485, 550, 615) (690, 770, 820, 895) meters / 470 (530 , 601, 672) (755, 842, 897 979) yards.
For the sample we used ´Field’ in colourway “Ivory”, the piece is knitted with one thread.
Alternative yarn: same yardage for Sandnes Line (53% cotton, 33% viscose and 14% linen).

NEEDLES
US 4 / 3.5 mm circular needles, cable length 32 or 40” (80 or 100 cm) for main body.
US 3 / 3.25 mm circular needles, cable length 32 or 40” (80 or 100 cm) for neckband and armhole.

GAUGE
20 stitches x 35 rounds = 4” / 10 cm on US 4 / 3.5 mm needles in pattern stitch in the round after
blocking.
Gauge is crucial for this project. Please make sure you achieve gauge by changing needle size if
necessary.

INSTRUCTIONS
BACK
Using gauge-sized needles (for our sample, US 4 / 3.5 mm needles were used), CO 49 (53, 57, 61)
(69, 77, 85, 93) sts using the long tail cast on. Do not join to work in the round.
Row 1 (WS): P2 (edge sts), purl to 2 sts to end, P2 (edge sts).
Row 2 (RS): K2 (edge sts), start working row 1 of PATTERN STITCH WORKED FLAT to last 2 sts,
K2 (edge sts).
Keep working in pattern until the back measures approx. 5.7 (5.7, 5.9, 6.1) (6.3, 6.7, 6.9, 7.1)”/ [14.5
(14.5, 15, 15.5) (16, 17, 18, 18.5) cm]. From the CO edge to the edge next to the armhole. Remember
to work the 2 edge sts (at the beginning and end) on each row.
End with a WS row.
Write down the number of rows of the pattern repeat. You will need this later on!

ARMHOLE SHAPING (BACK)

Next row (RS): K2 (edge sts), M1R, work in pattern to last 2 stitches, M1L, K2 (edge sts).
Next row (WS): P2 (edge sts), work in pattern to last 2 stitches, P2 (edge sts).
Repeat the last two rows (working an increase row on every RS row) a total of 15 times. (30 sts inc’d)
ending with a WS row.

You now have a total of 79 (83, 87, 91) (99, 107, 115, 123) sts on your needles.

Next row (RS): work in pattern to end.

Next row (WS): work in pattern to end.

INGRID TOP

Break yarn and place the back sts on hold using a spare needle or some scrap yarn.

LEFT FRONT
With the RS of the BACK facing, join a new thread of yarn and pick up 8 (8, 8, 8) (10, 10, 10, 10) sts
along the corresponding edge.
Please note that at the fronts the neckline edges are only 1 st whereas the armhole edge uses 2 sts.
Next row (WS): P2, purl to 1 st to end, P1.
Next row (RS): K1 (edge st), start working row 1 of PATTERN STITCH WORKED FLAT to last 2
sts, K2 (edge sts).
In order to maintain the symmetry of the pattern, work row 9 as follows:
Row 9 (RS): K1 (edge st), ”yo, k2tog” as many times as possible. Then, knit to end.
Keep working in pattern until front measures approx. approx.1.8”/ 4.5 cm (this will equal approx 16
rows) from CO edge measured at the tip of the shoulder. Remember to work the edge sts on each RS
row.
End with a WS row.

Neck shaping
Next row (RS): INCREASE ROW: K1, (edge st), M1R, work in pattern to last 2 sts, K2 (edge sts). (1
st inc’d)
Since the pattern is a multiple of 2 sts, you will only be able to add a new pattern repeat (yo, k2tog)
every 2 increases. This means that the first inc will be worked as a K1, and second inc into the “yo,
k2tog” sequence.
Repeat the increase row every other row a total of 8 (8, 8, 8) (9, 9, 10, 12) times. This will equal
ending with a row 2 (2, 2, 2) (4, 4, 6, 10) of the pattern repeat.
End with a WS row.

You now have a total of 16 (16, 16, 16) (19, 19, 20, 22) sts on your needles.

Make sure to note the number of row in which you end the pattern repeat.
Break yarn and place the left front sts on hold using a spare needle or some scrap yarn.

RIGHT FRONT
With the RS of the BACK facing, join a new thread of yarn and pick up 8 (8, 8, 8) (10, 10, 10, 10) sts
across the corresponding shoulder.
Next row (WS): purl to the end.
Next row (RS): K2 (edge sts), start working row 1 of PATTERN STITCH WORKED FLAT to last st,
K1 (edge st).
Keep working in pattern until the front measures approx. 1.8”/ 4.5 cm from CO edge measured at the
tip of the shoulder. Remember to work the edge sts on each row.
End with a WS row.

INGRID TOP

Neck shaping
Next row (RS): INCREASE ROW: K2 (edge sts), work in pattern to last st, M1L, K1 (edge st). (1 st
inc’d)
Since the pattern is a multiple of a 2 sts repeat, you only will be able to add a new pattern repeat (k2tog,
yo) every 2 inc. This means that the first inc will be worked as a K1, and as for the second inc, you
will be able to work the k2tg, yo sequence.
Repeat the increase row every other row a total of 8 (8, 8, 8) ( 9, 9, 10, 12) times. This will equal
ending with a row 2 (2, 2, 2) (2, 4, 6, 10) of the pattern repeat.
End with a WS row.

You now have a total of 16 (16, 16, 16) (19, 19, 20, 22) sts on your needles.

Make sure to note the number of row in which you end the pattern repeat. It should be the same than
for the other front. If this doesn’t apply for you make sure to add a few extra rows always matching
the same row as you did for the left front.

JOIN FRONTS
Next row (RS): K2 (edge sts), work in pattern to end (incorporating edge st into pattern), CO 17 (21,
25, 29)(31, 39, 45, 49) sts using the backwards loop cast on or your favorite cast on method, place
the other front stitches back onto the needles, incorporating edge st into pattern, work to last 2 sts, K2
(edge sts).
Both fronts are joined now and worked as one piece.
Keep working in pattern until the front measures approx. 5.7 (5.7, 5.9, 6.1) (6.3, 6.7, 6.9, 7.1)”/ [14.5
(14.5, 15, 15.5) (16, 17, 18, 18.5) cm] from the CO edge. Make sure to end in the same row of the
pattern repeat as you did for the back before beginning to shape the armholes.

ARMHOLE SHAPING (FRONT)

Next row (RS): K2 (edge sts), M1R, work in pattern to last 2 sts, M1L, K2 (edge sts).
Repeat the increase row every other row a total of 15 times. (30 sts inc’d)
End with a WS row.

You now have a total of 79 (83, 87, 91) (99, 107, 115, 123) sts on your needles.

Next row (RS): work in pattern to end.

Next row (WS): work in pattern to end.

JOIN FRONT AND BACK

Next row (RS): work in pattern across front sts, CO 2 sts using the backwards loop cast on method,
place the back stitches back onto the needles and work in pattern to the end, CO 2 sts using the
backwards loop cast on method, join to work in the round and place a marker to indicate BOR.

7/9
INGRID TOP

You now have a total of 162 (170, 178, 186)(202, 218, 234, 250) sts on your needles.

Begin to work seamlessly in the round. Work in PATTERN STITCH IN THE ROUND (following the
established pattern repeat above) until the garment measures approx. 11.1 (12, 12.8, 13.7) (14.5, 15.4,
16.2, 17.1)”/ 26 (28, 30, 32) (34, 36, 38, 40) cm from underarm. Make sure to end with a row number
10, adding extra rows if necessary.

HEM
Change to below-gauge needle size (for our sample, we used US 3 / 3.25 mm needles).
Work 9 rounds in stockinette stitch.
Next round: purl to end.
Work 8 rounds in stockinette stitch.
Fold the hem and work a folded edge.

NECKLINE
See video tutorial for reference on how to pick up sts neatly.
With below gauge-sized needles (for our sample, we used US 3 / 3.25 mm needles), pick up approx
74 (80, 88, 96) (104, 122, 130, 136) sts as follows: starting on the top of the left front (pick up approx
3 stitches every 4 rows) and then pick up the remaining sts along the back (pick up every stitch), place
a BOR.
Work 7 rounds in stockinette stitch.
Next round: purl to end.
Work 6 rounds in stockinette stitch.
Fold the neckband and work a folded edge.

ARMHOLE
Both armholes are worked alike.
With below gauge-sized needles (for our sample, we used US 3 / 3.25 mm needles), pick up approx.
89 (89, 89, 91) (97, 101, 106, 114) sts along the sleeve opening (approximately 3 stitches every 4
rows) and place a marker at the underarm to indicate BOR.
Work 3 rounds in stockinette stitch.
Bind off in pattern using the Russian bind off. Let the edge roll.
