Prisos

Notes
With its graphic unisex motif and heavier yarn, Prisos is a quick project to work on gifts or
to get into stranded colourwork. Few floats to catch and intuitive patterning makes this
project engaging and accessible.
Written in one size to suit most adults, the pattern also includes notes on how to change
the gauge to get a different fit and on how to adjust the height.

Yarn :
You will need two colours of heavy DK or worsted weight yarns in the following amounts :
MC : 100 meters / 220 yards
CC : 70 meters / 110 yards
Sample was knit in Drops Lima (MC) and Woll Butt Söcke (CC).

Needles :
Main Fabric : 5 mm (US 8) circular needles
Brim : 4.5 mm (US 7) circular needles
Use the needle size that gets you the right gauge.

Gauge :
19,5 st x 28 rounds = 10 cm – 4 inches using larger needles in stranded knitting after
blocking

Size :
49 cm – 19 ¼ inches finished circumference, fits 50-55 cm – 19 ½ - 21 ½ inches head.
23 cm – 9 inches tall (adjustable)

You can get a slightly different size by working at a different gauge, whether you still use
DK / Worsted or choose to knit with a different yarn weight. A tighter gauge will make a
smaller hat while a looser gauge will make a larger one.
Here is the formula to determine at what gauge you need to work for the desired
circumference :
960 / desired circumference in cm – inches = number of st you need per 10 cm – 4 inches

Remember to plan a bit of negative ease.

Techniques used :
Knitting in the round
Stranded knitting with two colours per round
Simple decreases

Abbreviations :
– MC : main colour / CC : contrast colour
– st : stitch
– rnd : round
– k : knit stitch
– p : purl stitch
– k2tog : knit 2 stitches together (1 st dec)
– *-* : repeat instructions between asterisks

to have consistent colour dominance, make
sure to hold CC to the left and to always
carry it under MC.
This works whether you knit colourwork
using continental, two-handed or throwing
methods. Just position CC on the leftest
point making sure you don't twist the yarn
or change their place.

The hat is a bit slouchy as written. If you
want a closer fit, you can easily remove
some of the smaller motifs : for example
