Knit Top Pattern
Materials
1 ball 8ply yarn
9mm knitting needles
1 5mm crochet hook
wool needle
measuring tape
Method
Tension Square
1 using the double start cast on method (this is to make the cast on stretchy so the bottom of
your top fits) cast on 20 stitches.
2 knit in stockinette (1 row knit 1 row purl) for 15 rows
3 from this tension square, measure in inches with measuring tape - in mine, 20 stitches gave
8.5 inches, so 2.35 stitches gave 1 inch and 15 rows gave 4 inches, so 3.75 rows gave 1 inch.
For the front piece
1 using your waist or another top as a guide, use measuring tape to decide how wide your top
will be, I decided to do 12 inches, (2.35 x 12 = 28.23) so I cast on 28 stitches using the double
start cast on method.
2 then, decide how long you want your top to be (from under arm to end), using a top as a
guide, I decided to do 8.5 inches, (3.75 x 8.5 = 32) so I knit for 32 rows in stockinette.
3 now we start our decrease, on the first stitch, slip-slip-knit (or slip-slip-purl depending on what
side you are on) and continue as normal until the last stitch, and knit two together (or purl two
together) I decreased in three rows, bringing my total stitch count to 22 stitches, but depending
on your size, you can do more or less.
4 after this decrease we start on our straps. I decided to make mine 4 stitches wide. knit the first
four stitches and place onto a stitch holder.
5 bind off the next stitches using a stretchy bind off (I knit two stitches and knit these together
using my left needle), leaving the last four stitches for the second strap
6 continue to knit these four stitches for as many rows as needed, I did 20 rows, and then cast
off
7 repeat for the second strap
For the back piece
1 repeat steps 1 to 3 of the front piece
2 after your rows of decrease, continue knitting as normal for as long as needed, I did around 17
rows
3 using an invisible stitch and a wool needle, sew up the sides of the top and attach the straps
to the back piece
4 using your crochet hook, make a ‘bobble’ border stitch around the bottom, neckline, and arm
holes.
I used this tutorial for this crochet stitch

notes:
if you are trying to make this top more accurate to the inspo photo, I would increase the number
of rows before the decrease in order to make the bottom of the top finish lower. I would also knit
for a few more rows after the decrease for the arm, in order to make the neckline higher, I just
liked mine lower lol.
If I made this again I would use a finer yarn or bigger needles, and then change my needles
maybe 3 sizes smaller for the straps, as well as increasing the number of strap stitches to
around 5 or six, but this is just me being picky.
Here is my finished top. I can provide more detailed photos if needed :)
