Headmasters Corner
As we near the end of another busy term I would like to thank everyone for what has been such a happy and positive twelve weeks. The children have excelled themselves in everything they have done and this was clearly evident in this weeks amazing performances of The Wizard of Oz. This production was the result of yet another superb team performance from staff and children alike. Well done to Olivia Campbell, Seren Clayton and the cast and thank you to Mrs Glanville and the staff for making the whole thing possible. I know that both she and Mrs Warn have already started planning next years play already! I would like to bring your attention to some other outstanding achievements this term: Three scholarships were awarded to our pupils Our General Knowledge Team reached the National Finals having been the South West regional winners The children won just about every category in the Thornbury Eisteddfod Competition two weeks ago Charlie, Bennie and Jessie Sanzo were selected for the county tennis squad Archie Symonds was selected for the South Gloucestershire Football development squad The cross country teams beat 15 other schools in the TMS Relays The U9 Boys, U11 Boys and U9 Girls all broke their records in the TMS Relays Alex Grocott broke his own Junior CC record three times Eleanor Parker equalled the 10 year old Junior CC Record Every child from Reception upwards can now swim Rachel Shutt came third in two events in the county swim meeting this month Our Under 11 Girls relay swim team are currently ranked ninth in the country Every child in the school collectively made the mosaic tree Alex Grocott won both the Gwent and Gloucestershire Cross Country Leagues Year 8 were awarded the John Muir Discovery Award Under 11 Girls Relay Swim Team Olivia Campbell gained a Distinction in her Grade 3 Clarinet examination. This, combined with Mr Jones colossal charity row of 220 miles, will make this a hard one to beat next time. You will have received letters this week from the Chairman of Governors and from me outlining next years fees and an exciting announcement regarding the construction of the new multi-purpose astro-turf. The project got underway this week with the first full survey of the site and, as promised, I will keep you updated during the course of the next few terms on how the project is developing. If you have not seen these letters yet please search your childs bag. Work will be underway during the holidays with the ICT upgrade and installations of the new interactive plasma screen, PCs and LearnPad tablets ready for use when the children return in late April.
Please check your childs book bag for next terms uniform list.

Big Spring Clean
Year 7 went out into the community two weeks ago as part of the South Gloucestershire Big Spring Clean initiative to clean up public areas between the school and the Olveston Village Hall. After a reconnoitre at the weekend to find the litter hotspots, I was not very hopeful of finding much litter to pick and scaled down the mission. However, it was surprising how much litter we were able to find in the hedgerows and ditches mainly. The Year 7s loved doing this work in the community and came back to school to write newspaper reports on the enterprise, which we hope to send to the Gazette. We were guided in our endeavour by Mr Rod Williams, who lives in Olveston and who very generously came in to school and gave up time at the weekend to share his experiences as leader of the Litterbusters team. Many thanks to him, to Mr Jones and to Ms Fox as well as Mrs Hopkins at South Gloucestershire Council. Ms Case
