Brochure
Description: This is a tri-fold brochure
Date: July 9th 2016
Course & Instructor: Comm 130- Joel Judkins
Programs and Tools: Adobe Illustrator & Adobe Indesign
Objectives: Learn to use indent-style paragraphs and text wrap,
especially within a brochure
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): In order to complete this
project I had to use Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe I n-Design for this project. I started out in Adobe Illustrator to create my
logo and a few images of my own creation for this brochure. I used
the pen tool and paint tool to create my logo and the tools icon, beheaded person icon, the monster icon, and the small picture on the
bottom of the inside brochure. I then used some images from the
internet to fill in the rest of my pamphlet. These images include the
werewolf in the bottom of the fourth page, the wrench in the tool
icon, the forest on the back of the page, and the red hand print on the
2nd inside page. I then took all my images and my body text and organized it so that it would fit in a tri-fold brochure.

What is
Escape the Nightmare?
Escape the Nightmare is a reality television
game show where 11 unlucky contestants
take on the role as victims in different horror
story genres. Their role is to escape and survive
the brutal challenges and puzzles the gamemakers have created in 10 different nightmare
scenarios. Each nightmare is a reflection of
a famous horror film, video game, or book
ever created. Everynight one
victim will be
plucked from the pool until
only two are
left to battle for survival.
Do you have what it
takes to
survive the
nightmare?

Monsters

Your Choices Matter

Dont think that the arenas in these nightmares
are a one-way course. The game is adaptive to
the choices players make. Whether a player
decides to solve a certain puzzle or enter a
certain room can set off a series of chain reactions that can either save them from certain
death or send them to their doom. Players will
have to be smart and quick to survive under
pressure. There are many ways to safely escape
the nightmare... and several others to fail miserably.

Ever wondered what it would be like to face

Jason Voorhees? Leatherface? Slenderman? In the
game, players will have no choice but to face their
advesaries. These monsters are not forgiving. They
will do everything and anything to give you the
most realistic experience possible.
Monsters will grab, carry, trap, and hunt
victims until they have them right where they
want them. Players will have to evade and outsmart these monsters before the time runs out.
Remember, only one person will make it out alive
in the end.

Choose wisely.

Will it be you?

Programs and Tools: Photoshop
Objective: Learn how to make a montage using only Photoshop to
blend in 3 or more images to create an inspiring message
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, Steps taken):
1.) I cropped the background image to 8.511.
2.) I selected night time sky photo with the man and then cropped the
entire picture until only the man was left with a hard edged brush tool.
3.) Using the same brushed tool I did the same with the dragon clip art
4.) I then aligned the two images onto the evening grass field. I then
dropped the opacity of the dragon to 75% to make it look as imaginary
as possible.
5.) I increased the saturation on the grassy field so the image was clearer.
6.) I added some type with three contrasting fonts with golden color to
make it stand out.
7.) Programs/Tools Used: Adobe Photoshop

Programs & Tools: Adobe Illustrator
Objective: Learn how to make your own personal logo using
the tools found in Adobe Indesign
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I used Adobe illustrator
for this project. After opening illustrator I played around with the
tools creating different designs until I found three that I enjoyed
and had a vote for which one was the best. Using the pen and color tool, I refined the logo by recreating it in color, black and white,
and greyscale. I then added text and refined the font style for it.

Programs and Tools: Adobe Indesign & Adobe Illustrator

Objective: Learn to create a busniess card and letter head using the
logo created in previous class project
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): Using Adobe Illustrator, I created
my logo by using the brush tool and pen tool. Once my logo was finished, I opened a separate page to work on my letterhead.
On my letterhead I placed my logo on the very center and expanded it to make it larger. I then lowered the opacity to 20% so it would
barley be visible on my letterhead. I then pasted the same logo on the
top left corner and used the brush tool to create a line on the top and
bottom. I then added my name on the top right corner as well as my
companys fake address, website, phone number, and email address.
I then opened another page and started to work on my business card.
Using the shape tool I created two different rectangle for the front
and the back of my business card. I then copied my logo on the very
front and colored it white with a dark red background to add contrast. I then inserted the name of my fake company on the bottom.
On the back of my business card I used clip art from the internet to
help my audience know the difference in contact information. I colored and formatted the clip art on Photoshop. I then added my name
and my fake position on the top.

Date: June 26th 2016
Course/ Instructor: Comm 130- Joel Judkins
Programs and Tools: Notepad ++
Objective: Learn the basics of html and CSS coding to create a very
simple web page.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills): I have never created a web
page before. This was my first time doing it. I downloaded a program
called notepad ++. I then created an html page and used a coding
language to set up the basics of my webpage. I then created a separate css page and linked to my html page. On the css page I was able
to organize it to add color, margins, and blocks.

Date: May 7th 2016
Course Instructor: Comm 130-Joel Judkins
Programs and Tools: Adobe Indesign
Objective: Learn for the first time the uses of Adobe Indesign to
create a flier for a graduate leadership conference
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): I started off
by sketching out four possible designs for my project. After selecting the sketch I wanted to proceed with, I went to InDesign and
used my selection as an outline for my project. I cropped one image
into four separate images to display that the company is looking for
a variety of young adults. I used the box tool to align, outline, and
organize my design. I colored in the boxes black to add more contrast to dark and light. I used medium sized text so the body copy

Description: I created a colorful full page event ad to promote a

mock fundraiser using only Microsoft word and a scanner
Date: May 15th 2016
Course/ Instructor: Comm 130- Joel Judkins
Programs and Tools: Microsoft Word
Objective: Learn to effetively scan an image and use Micrsoft word
to create an event ad from that scanned image.
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): I scanned
a painting from the Art in America Magazine to 300 pixels using
a Canon Pixma MG2900 scanner and printer. I then inserted the
scan into a Microsoft page and began my design. I used the box
tool to create a large black box where the title and text box would
go into. I then created the title to match the Los Angeles Convention Center logo which I got off the internet. I then used two fonts,
one for the title and the other for the body paragraph, and used
different colors to match the painting and create an artsy effect. The
only programs I used were Microsoft Word, Canon Pixma scanner
and printer, and PDS2JPG.net.

Photodesign
Description: This was an activity I did to practice good photography
skills and image editing skills. I was to incorporate colors into an
image layout with an original photo.
Date: May 22 2016
Course Instructor: Comm 130- Joel Judkins
Programs and Tools: Photoshop
Objective: Create an original photodesign using your own photo
in Photoshop
Process (Programs, Tools, Skills, FOCUS principles): The first thing
I did was look through all the color schemes in the FOCUS book
and decided to go with primary. I then took a photo using the lead
composition technique in a room with good indoor lighting. I used
a Canon DSLR camera to take the photo. I then uploaded the photo to Photoshop and fixed the photo using basic editing skills such
as levels, sharpness, saturation, and color balance. I then wanted to
proceed with using my primary colors without having to exaggerate
them too much. I created borders around the text using the four different colors I chose-red, yellow, blue, and green. I then used white
text for the words that seemed to fade within the colors so they can
stand out more, and used black text for the words on bright colors
so they could stand out more. I believe I created a nice simple message with an original photograph that flows.
