HEADMASTERS CORNER
Welcome back to a new term and indeed, a new
year.
Our first congratulations of the year go to Rachel
Shutt and Erin OLeary on their superb Musical
Theatre examination results. Erin, Year 6 achieved
a Distinction at Grade 5 and Rachel, Year 8, a pass
with Merit at Grade 6. These are truly impressive
results for this age and I congratulate both them
and their teacher, Miss Walters.
We welcomed two new children to school this week;
Joshua in Year 3 and Micaela in Year 8. In addition
we also welcomed our new Head of Music, Miss
Hughes and our two new gap Students, Megan
Palmer and Angus Sutherland. Both Megan and
Angus join us from Australia for one year.
May I please remind Years 5 8 that we will be
holding our play rehearsals on Saturday mornings.
I hope you all have a super term!
THORNBURY EISTEDDFOD
11-19 MARCH 2017
In assembly this morning Miss Hughes and Mrs
Beach spoke to the children about the forthcoming
Eisteddfod. There are Music, Speech and Drama
categories that children can enter. The Speech and
Drama classes are open to children from Reception
to Y8, the Music classes have different age groups.
If your child is interested in entering any of the
categories,
please
contact
Miss
Hughes
(rhughes@tockingtonmanorschool.com) or Mrs
Beach (sbeach@tockingtonmanorschool.com). We
will need you to complete the entry form and send
the required fee to the organisers. Please note that
the closing date for entries is January 23rd.
As always we have a very busy term ahead of us
and children have now been given this terms
calendar. Sport gets underway tomorrow with the
County Cross Country Championships being held at
Old Down and the Boarders weekend program gets
underway with visits to the Bowling and @Bristol.
The School Choirs will be entering; Miss Hughes is
organising the entries for these and the entry fees
will be paid by School. Attendance at all choir
rehearsals is vitally important as we have high
hopes of a strong performance.
The Eisteddfod booklet of information is attached.
Do look through at the wide range of events - from
music to poetry recitals, story telling and reading
aloud. In the past, many TMS children have entered
the competition and enjoyed rehearsing and
perfecting their performances.

CROSS COUNTRY
Year 3 & 4
Badges awarded to Poppy Sheppard, Gemma
Allen, Emily Gaulton, Maria Woodward, Violet
Gibbs, Sam Sheasby, Charlie Newman and Joshua
Webley.
Cole OLeary led the way with a strong 2m 57s in
slippery conditions.
The performance of the week was from Lola-Bow
Stanway, the only Year 3/4 pupil to achieve a
personal best! Lola-Bow ran 4m 5s knocking 6
seconds from her existing best. Well done!!
Year 5 - 8
A cold day with the top layer being very slippery
after he mid-morning thaw, although there were
sections of both courses still icy.
The Christmas break was definitely a factor in their
times being on average between 1 - 3 mins
outside their personal bests. However, there were
exceptions!
A huge congratulations to Poppy Soanes who has
been training 3 times a weeks over the festive
period. It has really paid off! She improved her
personal best by 1m 8s, lowering it to 13m 42s. She
was the only pupil to lower their PB.
Dalis Jones and Kaya Priove were the other
recipients of a Red Badge, and together with
Poppy, they were the Top 3 Performance of the
Week. Well done to you all.
