Zoo Lab Visit

On Friday 11th January ZooLab came to visit everyone from Year 1 to Year 8. We were introduced to a number of different animals, from Cuddles the Corn Snake to Mel the Millipede. Different workshops focused on different aspects of the animals, from camouflage and adaptation to habitats and deforestation. All the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the day and I am sure one or two have asked for a new pet. I hope that the visit has helped to inspire the next generation of zoologists! Mr Glanville

Thornbury Swimarathon
The annual Swimarathon is to be held on Friday 8th March at Thornbury Leisure Centre. We have the 6.15 session booked and children will be free for collection at 7.15 pm. In past years we have raised between 150-400 and have had a great time beating the records of previous years. For many years we have taken two teams and had great fun as there is a carnival atmosphere. There will be a first come first served allocation of spaces. Children should be in Years 5-8 and be able to swim over 400 metres to compete. Please email bhinchliffe@tockingtonmanorschool.com or drop me a note by January 25th to confirm that your child would like to take part. Please be prepared to get a few sponsors (every little helps is the mantra here). Mrs Hinchliffe

Raising Money for 2 Great Causes

Every two years during the Spring people around the country get together to raise money for charity through sport (Sports Relief). But this year Mr Mildon and some of his close friends didnt want to miss out on the opportunity of raising money through sport and didnt want to wait until 2014. They have arranged a charity bike ride from Bristol to Brussels leaving on the 22nd March, raising money for two charities which mean a great deal to their group. Every day, ten children and young people in the UK hear the shocking news they have cancer. Clic Sargent help children, young people and their families through this frightening and emotional experience. Clic Sargent helped support one of the riders families through this terrible time when his younger sister was diagnosed with cancer in 2011. She tragically lost her fight with cancer at the age of 13. Clic Sargent supported the family financially and emotionally throughout the whole process. The second charity is Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). This charity helps to raise awareness of conditions that can lead to young sudden cardiac deaths. This is a charity which Mr Mildon supports and knows the importance of having lost a friend and teammate through a sudden cardiac death. The aim of the cycle ride is to raise 7000, cycling over 550 miles in seven days from Bristol to Brussels via Paris. The cycle ride will be a huge challenge for each of the riders and will require them to make a significant investment. To help us reach our goal we are looking for possible corporate sponsorship which will help us make our aspirations a reality. If you or someone you know are interested in supporting us please contact bmildon@bristoltobrussels.com. If you would like to make a donation to the two charities and help us reach our target of 7000 please vi sit our Vir gi n M oney Gi vi ng sit e: www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/bristoltobrussels

Music Department
Instruments Home Could all children having instrumental lessons at school please ensure they take their instruments and music folders home following each week's lesson. Regular practice at home is vital for musical development and will make a huge difference to your child's enjoyment in playing. We now have a beautiful musical trophy presented each term for the child who has achieved the most practice. Many thanks for your continued support and encouragement. National Youth Choir of Great Britain Congratulations to Olivia Campbell, Tom Edwards and Aditi Mehendale who, following auditions, have been offered places in the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. They will have an opportunity this year to receive some intensive choral training and the chance to sing at the Royal Albert Hall. As reported in last week's Tracker, all three children achieved their Grade 3 singing exam at the end of last term. Well done! Mrs Warn and the Music Staff
