Descriptionshide ▲
Ocarina of Time 3D Gear Subscreen
Biggoron's Sword
A huge, sturdy, and very sharp sword. You can't use a shield while wielding it.

In Ocarina of Time, the Biggoron's Sword is a far sturdier version of the Giant's Knife, which Biggoron crafted for the Master Craftsman, and is a very powerful sword.[4][5] It can be obtained completing the Trading Game.[6] The blade is much longer than the Master Sword and deals twice as much damage. Its handle also changes from yellow to blue. However, it must be wielded with two hands, meaning that Link cannot defend with a Shield while equipped. If the Shield button is pressed, he will either attempt to block using the blade if Z-Targeting, or simply crouch down if not targeting. Neither of these animations will prevent damage from attacks.

Despite being the strongest Weapon, the Biggoron's Sword is incapable of defeating Ganon as only the Master Sword can deliver the final blow. However, it can be useful during the final battle, as Ganon knocks the Master Sword out of reach before getting it back.

Oracle of Seasons

The Biggoron's Sword is the strongest Sword in Oracle of Seasons. It can only be acquired in a Linked Game by using Secrets. The Biggoron's Sword is obtained from Biggoron himself. While every other Item in these games is assigned to one hand and can be used in conjunction with another, the Biggoron's Sword takes up both slots as it is held with both hands. Link swings it in a whole 180-degree arc, as opposed to the other Swords' 90-degree slash. The Biggoron's Sword is 67% stronger than the Noble Sword and 150% stronger than the Wooden Sword. Excluding the 180-degree arc, the only other difference from the Master Sword is that it can kill Armos in one hit.

Oracle of Ages

The Biggoron's Sword is the strongest Sword in Oracle of Ages, as it works exactly as Seasons. It can only be acquired in a Linked Game by using Secrets. The Biggoron's Sword is obtained from the Goron Elder who resides at the Goron Shooting Gallery, after telling him the Elder Secret and scoring 300 points at the Shooting Gallery. The Biggoron's Sword is 67% stronger than the Noble Sword and 150% stronger than the Wooden Sword. Excluding the 180-degree arc, the only other difference from the Master Sword is that it can kill Armos in one hit.

Breath of the Wild

In Breath of the Wild, the Biggoron's Sword is an amiibo exclusive two-handed Weapon. The Weapon will rarely appear in a Treasure Chest after scanning the Ocarina of Time Link amiibo using the amiibo Rune, but only after freeing one of the Divine Beasts. It is noted to have been forged by a Goron craftsman for a hero who travelled through time, with a cutting edge that speaks to its creator's mastery.[2] It has a base attack power of 50.

Biggoron's Sword is made of metal, and will therefore attract Lightning if it is equipped during a Thunderstorm and conduct Electricity. It will also sink in Water, but since it is magnetic, it can be picked up with the Magnesis Rune. Finally, it will not burn if exposed to Fire or a Scorching Climate.

Tears of the Kingdom

Hyrule Compendium Entry
388  Biggoron's Sword
Description
A legendary greatsword forged by a Goron craftsman for a hero who traveled through time. The exceptionally sharp cutting edge is a testament to the craftsman's mastery.
Common Locations
Unknown
Properties
Atk: 38

Biggoron's Swords reappear in Tears of the Kingdom.[3] Their damage has been changed from their Breath of the Wild counterpart, being reduced from 50 to 36. They have the second highest base Durability of any Weapon, second only to the Lightscale Trident.

There are two manners by which Link can obtain a Biggoron's Sword. The first is by defeating all of the Enemies in the Akkala House of Bones, after which Link can open the Treasure Chest inside and receive a Sword. Alternatively, scanning the Ocarina of Time-based Link amiibo with the amiibo ability has a chance to spawn an Iron Treasure Chest containing a Biggoron's Sword. Once obtained, they can be purchased from any Bargainer Statue for 150 Poes.

Biggoron's Sword is one of the few Items that a Rock Octorok will not repair or enhance, instead spitting it back out immediately upon ingesting it.

Other Appearances

SoulCalibur II

The following section is not part of the Zelda canon and should not be taken as such.

In SoulCalibur II, the Biggoron's Sword is one of Link's weapons. Paired off with the Hylian Shield, the Biggoron's Sword can be bought in Merak, Antares, or Pollux for 4000 Gold while playing the Weapon Master Mode. When Link equips it, his attack goes up to 130% while his defense stays the same. Although the Biggoron's Sword is incredibly powerful due to its long reach, it is wielded with only one hand and thus drains Link's health with each swing.[7]

Image Cost Attributes In-game Description
4000 Gold
Long reach
Drains 3 HP per attack
A masterfully crafted long sword forged by the best blacksmith in Hyrule, Biggoron, who lives on Death Mountain. Designed specifically for Link, it is made to be wielded with one hand. Even so, swinging it with full force gets tiring after a while.

Hyrule Warriors

The following section is not part of the Zelda canon and should not be taken as such.

In Hyrule Warriors, the Giant Blade that Impa wields is based on the Biggoron's Sword. The third tier of the moveset is the Biggoron's Sword itself, though modified as a curved Sword instead of a straight one.

Trivia

  • In the original version of Ocarina of Time, the Biggoron's Sword is sheathed in the same Scabbard as the Master Sword. However, in Ocarina of Time 3D, the blade receives its own Scabbard.
  • Ocarina of Time contains unused text for the Giant's Knife, meant to be displayed when it is exchanged for the Biggoron's Sword, provided that Link possesses the Giant's Knife. The final version makes no mention of the replacement, and instead the Giant's Knife is simply discarded.[8]
  • Despite being the unbreakable Biggoron's Sword from Ocarina of Time,[9] the Biggoron's Sword will indeed break in Breath of the Wild. Interestingly, the Biggoron's Sword model has nicks in the blade, indicating it has lost its unbreakable status due to long age. However, replacements can be acquired by using the same amiibo again with the amiibo Rune.
