Is there a release date for the new Korra comic?
Not yet!
They were announced last year at SDCC in July 2015, and the artist was announced last year at NYCC in October 2015.
The tentative release date was Fall 2016 (aka now), but since then, we’ve gotten ZERO news and the old artist dropped out. We have figured out the new artist (who hasn’t been announced yet). A new announcement was scheduled for SDCC in July of this year, but was cancelled and pushed back to NYCC of this year.
So hopefully we get a new announcement at the Dark Horse panel at NYCC on this Saturday at 5:15pm!
Why, hello, Kyoshi! Look who made the front-page of Yahoo news for NYCC. Photo by Siemond Chan.
Brittney Williams has been announced as the artist for the upcoming Korra comics at Dark Horse’s NYCC panel. Above are some sketches by her as well as some other samples of her art from her blog. She was also recently announced to be the artist of Marvel’s “Patsy Walker AKA Hellcat”.
She was interviewed by Comic Book Resources and said the following:
I’m definitely going to stay true to the amazing style and tone that the Legend of Korra and the Avatar series have. The great Bryan Konietzko will be there to provide direction and inspiration! At the same time, animation and comics are very different. As opposed to a whole crew with a variety of tastes and styles working on an animated series, a comic usually has one artist. In that respect, I think my drawing style will probably show itself a bit!
Mike DiMartino will be writing the comics. No release date has been announced yet (the ATLA comics Smoke & Shadow Parts 1 through 3 were/will be released on October 6th 2015, December 29th 2015, and April 12th 2016– it’s unclear how the Korra comics will coordinate with these).
Recently the official Korra statue produced by Zwyer Industries was teased. There is news circulating about another statue but it is a fan product, not official.
