Is there a release date for the new Korra comic?
Not yet!
They were announced last year at SDCC in July 2015, and the artist was announced last year at NYCC in October 2015.
The tentative release date was Fall 2016 (aka now), but since then, we’ve gotten ZERO news and the old artist dropped out. We have figured out the new artist (who hasn’t been announced yet). A new announcement was scheduled for SDCC in July of this year, but was cancelled and pushed back to NYCC of this year.
So hopefully we get a new announcement at the Dark Horse panel at NYCC on this Saturday at 5:15pm!
The Legend of Korra will continue as comics written by Michael DiMartino, published by Dark Horse! I’ve been working on the story with Mike, and I’ll be consulting on the art (once we secure an artist/artists). I made the images above for our announcement at the Dark Horse panel, which just finished up. Exciting stuff!

This figure of Korra, a replica of her pose from the opening titles of lok, has been created by Dark Horse, will be on display at Comic-Con, and available for purchase in early 2016!
It joins the Zwyer Industries Chief Beifong PVC figure, and is separate from the rumored upcoming Zwyer Industries Korra PVC figure (as well as Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Zuko, Mako, and Bolin). This would make Korra the first character to have more than one figure.
Furthermore, four Chief Beifong figures will be given away at SDCC! Here is how:
Attending SDCC? Don’t forget to enter for the chance to win a Zwyer Chief Beifong by texting KORRA to 91757 each day between 10am and 2pm PDT! Each day Nickelodeon will randomly select one winner. Be sure to check your text messages around 2pm PDT to see if you were selected. Plus, the lucky winner on 7/11 will get an extra bonus prize of taking a photo with Mike & Bryan! For more details, check out the official rules at http://at.nick.com/KorraSMSrules.

- The Dark Horse booth has always sold copies of the Avatar and Korra artbooks, as well as the Gene Yang comics. There is also a possibility that Dark Horse will sell some upcoming unreleased merchandise like they did last year, such as the Avatar poster book.
More details are emerging about the Avatar franchise’s presence at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, running from July 9th to 12th.
There will be a Nickelodeon and Dark Horse Comics: Avatar The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra panel on Friday, July 10th, from 10-11am PST (1-2pm EST).
It will be held in room 25ABC, which has a capacity of 480 people.
The current description of the panel is as follows:
Come celebrate Nickelodeon’s Avatar universe with the brilliant minds who created it all: co creators and executive producers Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. Mike and Bryan will discuss past storylines and tease the future at a panel full of surprises and behind-the-scenes stories.
What phrasings like “tease the future” and “full of surprises” entail is yet to be confirmed but it is possible that we will be getting information on some kind of new content, whether it’s
- a new sequel series? (no confirmation in any shape or form but it’s always a possibility)
- the upcoming top-secret Dreamworks projects headed by Studio Mir and Korra crew lead alums
- Mike and Bryan’s new individual projects started since they split up
- details on the atla poster collection such as what posters will be featured, as well as the possibility of an exclusive SDCC release of the collection prior to its August 4th general release
- confirmation of what characters will be featured in upcoming atla and lok figures
- information on the upcoming atla comic trilogy Smoke and Shadow
- or the alleged next trilogy after that featuring a time skip and focusing on the Water Tribes
- the potentiality of future Dark Horse Korra comics
Whatever it is, it’s clear that there is much to discuss concerning the world of Avatar, especially considering Bryke’s post-lok ending attitude of laying low and avoiding interviews.

Lots of Avatar stuff coming down the pileline in the coming weeks, so here’s a roundup of it all!
San Diego Comic-Con 2015 | July 9th-12th
The Nickelodeon booth will be selling two exclusives (so far).
1. An 11-inch Chief Beifong figure.
Crafted by Zwyer Industries, a new company started by Korra crew alumni, this figure is pre-painted PVC. On the left is the regular version, with matte finish (which we’re not sure how you’re supposed to purchase), while on the right is the comic-con exclusive version, with high-gloss finish on the armor. The packaging of the exlusive version can be seen below.
More information and images can be found on Zwyer industries’ website, which also features this coming soon teaser for what seems to be further figures from both Avatar and Korra.
Based on this, the upcoming character figures to join Chief Beifong from lok are:
- Katara (atla)
- Sokka (atla)
- Aang (atla)
- Toph (atla)
- Zuko (atla)
- Mako (lok)
- Korra (lok)
- Bolin (lok)
No confirmation on this yet, nor word on how soon these can be expected.
2. An exclusive limited edition “Avatar Generations” print featuring Aang and Korra.
It is likely this will be an 11x17-inch sheet with semi-glossy finish.
