Biography
Sydney Carlin was born in Wichita, Kansas. She attended Neosho County Community College and earned a bachelor's degree from Kansas State University. Carlin has career experience as an office manager with the Manhattan Country Club. She has been elected to serve on the city commission and as the mayor of Manhattan, Kansas. Carlin has been a member of "The Martin Luther King Committee, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Colonists, PEO, Konza Prairie Quilters Guild, American Association of University Women a charter member of the Fairy Godmothers Foundation, and co-founder of the Manhattan Women 4 Kansas."[1]

Carlin refused to take Project Vote Smart's 2008 Political Courage Test. The test, which is administered to all candidates for presidential, congressional, gubernatorial, and state legislative offices, asks one central question - "Are you willing to tell citizens your positions on the issues you will most likely face on their behalf?"[2]

On November 4, 2008, Carlin was re-elected to the 66th District Seat in the Kansas House of Representatives, defeating Dee McKee (R).[12] Carlin raised $50,411 for her campaign, while McKee raised $18,706.[13]
