Original Owner 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi

This 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi is an essentially stock 35k-mile example which is being offered by its original owner. This is the first year the STi was sold on US shores, and this one was built in September of 2003 with the blue paint/gold wheels combination celebrating Subaru’s 2003 World Rally Championship win. The car retains its mechanically stock 2.5-liter flat four and six-speed manual, and has never been tracked. Modifications are limited to early JDM Subaru STI wheels (originals included) and a handful of subtle interior changes detailed below. The timing belt and brakes were changed in 2014 and it is sold with a clean Carfax report and clear Michigan title.

World Rally Blue paint retains a smooth gloss overall thanks to lifelong covered storage, including during a year and a half when the seller was abroad. The finish is original except for on the roof, which was repainted in 2008 to correct a chip that had started to rust. Signs of use include occasional marks and an array of small stone chips distributed across the nose, aluminum hood, and driver’s side fender.

Stock gold BBS wheels with snow tires are also included, with one showing some curb rash. Photos show straight sides with no visible dents. Currently fitted gold STi V7 twin-spoke wheels were sourced from the UK and wear OEM Bridgestone Potenzas from 2003 with approximately 7k miles. All are free of damage but each shows chipped paint as shown in closeup photos.

The car has never been hit or involved in any incidents according to the seller. Plastic cladding appears free of distortion, as does the factory dual-plane rear wing. A mesh insert was added to the hood scoop to help protect the intercooler below. “Peanut-eye” HID headlights look clear and undamaged, as do other plastic lenses.

The interior is in good condition commensurate with the low mileage. Deeply-bolstered fabric sport seats with perforated blue suede inserts show light wear, and all four door panels are clean and undamaged. Blue carpeting shows some discoloration visible in the driver’s footwell, and the seat mounts are oxidized. The stock STi leather wheel is in good shape, and the Takata passenger airbag recall has been completed by an authorized Subaru dealership.

A Subaru short-throw shifter was installed and the original unit is also included. The STi came stock without a stereo for 2004, so the seller added a correct-year six disc CD player. Switchgear retains bright lettering and includes adjustable center differential controls. The VDO boost gauge was moved from the steering column to the A-pillar, and a new column without mounting holes was installed.

Other optional items include an armrest extension and auto-dimming compass mirror. Red instrumentation includes a central 7,000rpm tach along with a differential indicator, and the center stack bulb covers have been changed to a matching red.

Underhood, the STi’s 2.5-liter turbocharged flat four received as much as 14.5 pounds of factory boost for ratings of 300 horsepower and 300 lb. ft. of torque for the US market. The motor features variable valve timing along with a scoop-fed intercooler which can be sprayed with water to lower charge air temperature at the push of a button.

The engine bay appears stock and is clean with no corrosion visible in photos. The last major service was a timing belt change in 2014. Synthetic oil has been used and the battery is new as of this year. The stock six-speed manual transmission sends power to a full-time all-wheel drive system via a driver-controllable center differential and limited-slip front and rear ends.

Brakes feature Brembo calipers and electronic force distribution, and were overhauled in 2014. Rear struts were replaced with OEM parts in 2010 to remedy a common clunking issue.

Above is the clean Carfax report showing one owner since new and no accidents or other issues.

Most service records are included aside from early oil changes performed personally by the seller. The car also comes with its original owner’s manual and window sticker along with spare keys including an extra blue aluminum ignition key.
