Batman Miniature Game Diablo (Suicide Squad)

In the mood to get some more figure finished I plucked up the courage this week to crack on with the last few Suicide Squad members.

These last two have lingered until last mainly due to them both requiring tattoos of some sort painting on them.

Diablo is plastered in them some of which I had to omit mainly because the areas where they were to go are just to small.

The facias one are done to make his head appear like a skull. I really love his character in the movie and the comics which I have recently read he is awesome

Sadly I am not sure how much I well get out of him. Diablo is quite a cheap free agent at 50 reputation he has some really cool rules but what let's him down is his Regrets trait meaning he has to fail a Willpower test everytime he activates in order to attack anything. It's a flavoursome rule those who have seen the movie will know he has to be goaded into Action because of his past.

I like the rule just which it had been reversed so that you had to pass a test in order to make attacks mainly because Deadshot had the leadership ability allowing reroll failed tests and if you had see the film there is a really cool bit where he goads Diablo into using his powers.

Anyway he is done and I shall give him at least one run out for a game. I am hoping we get different version of him when they release the magic expansion.

I stuck to the studio scheme but chickened out trying to paint the gang symbols on jacket.

Harley Quinn is also finished but I need to re shoot the pics as my finger is in most of them....

Batman Miniature Game Deadshot (Suicide Squad)

Firs Batman miniature done for a while he has been sat started since before Christmas I think but as he has not fitted in any lists sort drifted along. I was also having colour scheme quandaries as well so it got bogged down and put away. Anyway I have a tournament coming up end of April and I'm tempted to get take the Suicide Squad. This version of Deadshot brings a lot of firepower like his previous two versions but its his bullet time special rule meaning he can move and fire two of his guns in one turn. Depending on the combo he can put out 7 shots at short range or 5 at medium meaning something is going to die.....

One of potential Suicide Squad lists. 345 rep Captain Boomerang for his Primary target loot. Copperhead for Bat signal countering as she has undercover. Deadshot for blowing the crap out of threats. Katana for slicing and dicing. Croc to jump out the sewer onto an objective and hold on for defend/hold on for dear life. I have some other configs in the works but need some other models to take these lists.

Batman Miniature Game AO Deathstroke

I hadn't planned on getting Deathstroke painted up but Pulp Citizen wants to try out his Green Goblin Spiderman miniature game crew (sort of uses Batman game rules) They whole crew comes in at 400 rep and the Green Goblin is quite a beast of a characters so I needed an upper end character to join my growing Suicide Squad list and Arkham Origin's Deathstroke fits that bill nicely.

I've still get a second version of Deadshot to finished the Will Smith version from the film.

I am quite pleased with how Deathstroke has turned out especially his armour. I have good solid base to doing a Scarecrow or Deathstroke crew as I have the Scarecrow crew set to assemble and paint at some point.

We will see how this character plays out. Deathstroke is quite fast has high defense and attacks as well as armour that can heal some damage once per game making him very durable.

Batman Miniature Game Katana (Suicide Squad)

Fourth member of the Suicide Squad set done. I really love this model and the pose is awesome but it was a royal pig to put together. The arms are separate as are the hands/sword, Sash and sword hilt/tanto.

The sash and sword hilt/tanto weren't a problem just requiring tiny mold lines being filed off and glued in place. The arms/hands holding the sword are where the main problems begin.
Something I've started noticing with CAD designed miniatures is that they always add in these little details like a gap between the hands holding the hilt which look amazing when zoomed in on a pc but once cast are really fragile. Also with how they were on the sprue got weakened just being snipped off. This was even with warnings from others who had assembled her and come across the same issue. If they had just had the hands touching then it would of be far more stronger. As it is I ended up snapping the hands off when cleaning up the piece.

Anyway I ended up filing it flat and making it all join together as good as possible then just filled in the gaps at the shoulders

I really enjoyed painting her and it has to be one of my favourite characters out of the DC universe.
This version like Captain Boomerang is slightly cheaper at 50 rep compared to her 75 of the Comic version. Squad Katana has taken a slight stat decrease, looses the Adaptable trait and shuriken but gains Bodyguard trait and a Tanto which is Defensive making her quite good at blocking attacks with the rerolls it gives when blocking.

At 50 rep Katan fills some nice gaps in both Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey Teams as well as giving a bodyguard for Law crews. Its interesting to have Commissioner Gordon with a samurai type bodyguard :) Though I suspect when we get Amanda Waller and Special forces to go with Rick Flagg it will make more of a themed crew list.

Batman Miniature Game Captain Boomerang (Squad)

Another member of the Suicide Squad finished this week. This time Captain Boomerang the name sounds a little bit corny but I love this guy he is class in the comics and hilarious in the movie.

This version of the Captain Boomerang is similar to his comic version as in he has close range support with his boomerangs and had the ricochet trait as well meaning he can bounce a further hit on to another model nearby the original target situational but great against bodyguards and there charges.
This version is a bit cheaper meaning his stats are slightly lower and he carries less of a variety of ammo types. However where he shines is that he also has  the Primary Target loot trait (Tho he can only score loot/safes because of another) meaning he can choose any loot objective on the table as his primary target and if he gets hold of it then he can score double victory points from it.

One of his abilities is a monitoring device which gives him total vision when used allowing him to lob boomerangs around corners which is kind of cool.

In the movie he has a thing for pony toys I think representing him being a bit of a Bronie (male my little pony fan) which is kind of amusing. So to represent his Primary Target Pony (cough cough loot) I decided to have a crack at sculpting one to put on the table. TBH I'd of loved to have bought and repainted a charm or something but they were either way expensive or not what I was looking for. It will do for know until something jumps out at me.

Batman Miniature Game Suicide Squad Slipknot

One of the minor roles in the Suicide Squad movie is a character called Slipknot. Without spoiling it he has only a little screen time..... I know very little outside of the movie about this character. I though that he must be some sort of climbing expert/thief. However a look at the wiki has him as some sort of assassin who uses chemicals on his ropes to make them nearly indestructible.

In game terms he is extremely useful he is very fast, comes with a grapple gun armed with a knife and a bullet proof vest. Makes him ideal to grab loot. But where he truly shines for me in my Bane crew is one ability 'Arrest' allowing him to remove Knocked out Characters by spending a movement and special counter. Now this is something I struggle with in my Bane crew both Bane and his Bodyguard Venom Soldier are cracking fighters dealing lots of stun (which people can recover eventually) But the arrest ability allows me to get rid of them so that they come onto other targets.

So far I have managed to arrest Arsenal, Animated Black Canary and Strix. As well as moving a bomb to my opponents deployment zone in the final turn of a recent game. So pretty useful and all for only 42 rep and $100 funding.

Spurred also by the Dark Victory Tournament coming up immently I put the pedal to the metal to get him painted in time. The detail on crocs

Batman Miniature Game Hawkman

Hawkman is another miniature I finished at the same time as AC Batman (Previous post). I had intended to attend the Animosity tournament with a new Birds of Prey list of Batgirl, Katana and both Hawk man and Hawk Girl. Only getting distracted by some of the new Suicide boxed set models changing my Crew preference at the last minute. Another wonderful mini easy to assemble. I had to way down the base as the wings make him a bit top heavy. I think he should've had the Large trait and been put on a 40mm base personally.  The recent FAQ Knight models have released have introduced changes to the Birds of Prey Team in a tournament setting. Whoever you choose as boss gains +1 Willpower, Reinforced Gloves (double stun damage) and the Leadership trait. Which is a nice touch as there girls leaders are quite soft and squishy really.  I think it should be added to the team rules permanently rather just at tournaments. It gives a nice boost to Black Canary and Batgirl if they are in charge.

The Hawks special fly high rule has taken a blow in the latest FAQ as well they have introduced a new trait called 'unnatural flight' which means when the return they can no longer use there basic move distance on the return to the table. Meaning they can't strike then fly off in the same turn. Will have to rethink the strategy with them both now.

Batman Miniature Game Copperhead

Another Free Agent finished this can be used by most villain type crews. I believe the original Copperhead was male and wore a sort of snake type outfit. This one is based on the Batman computer games. I really like the model its took me a while to get her finished as I've not needed her for a game as such. I hope to return to my Penguin crew at some point so I am building up some Free agents to fit in with him and take advantage of his Charismatic rule allowing him to take upto 3 Free agents than the normal 2.

Copperhead is quite a fast agent and has nice blood/stun claw attacks. I wouldn't use her for going after the beefier characters but going after henchmen I think she will do well. Snatching loot or perhaps finishing off KO characters.

Batman Miniature Game Animated Black Canary

Another version Black Canary finished. This one has slightly weaker stats and less traits but comes in 20 rep cheaper and allows me to take Hawkgirl in my Birds of Prey list alongside, Batgirl, Katana and Huntress. I think I will have to hang back with her in games and user her against henchmen rather than free agents.

My Birds of Prey team read for there first outing. I still want to add a few more options. Mainly Animated Batgirl and Strix from the Court of Owls (annoyingly she comes in a crew pack so buying 4 figures to get 1.....)

Batman Miniature Game Hawkgirl

Another Batman figure completed. This time it is the Free Agent Hawkgirl. I intend to use her in my Birds of Prey team for now. Hawkgirl however can be used in both  Batman and Green Arrow crews as a Free Agent also. Stat/trait wise Hawkgirl seems highly mobile being able to fly and good against henchmen but not so much big hitters like batman or bane.

I'm Alive! Catch up and Tournament news.

Greetings everyone its certainly been a very busy time in the Brummie household working on a project with a long commute for a good while has basically led to very little free time apart from the doing important stuff. That all finished two weeks ago and I've had a week off so its been good to get back to normal.

Well what have I been up to Hobby wise recently? Mostly its been focused on the Batman Miniatures game. Myself Pulpcitizen of Eclectic Gentleman and Kieron of Cheaphammer!!! all attended another tournament at Titan games on the 2nd July. Originally I'd planned to take a Green Arrow crew but I've only had one game with the emerald archer and the new list I had prepped hadn't been tried and didn't feel confident enough with them. I only barely made my mind up on the morning of the event!

I had been working on some additions for my bad guy lists just to freshen things up by changing characters here and there.

First up a Free Agent Ravager (Daughter of Deathstroke) very fast and armed with two double dealing swords she is an excellent Henchmen killer and has some neat traits like Power Dampening (prevents heroes with invulnerable from soaking damage) and Self Discipline (Can't be Hypnotised).
I needed to include a Free agent in my list as Bane has a new piece of equipment called Venom Factory (Can only be taken on a Free agent as he currently has not Sidekick models) which allows the combat drugs available to his faction to be gotten a bit cheaper and allows characters to use Titan doses more than once per game. I could of used Deadshot but I wanted Ravagers swords to help finish off people who Bane KO's

Next up are a couple of prisoners. The first one is Prisoner 4 or more commonly known as Bodyguard prisoner his bodyguard ability allows him to soak damage on Bane or other Sidekicks if within 5cm. Venom Soldier also fulfils this roll but I had plans for his 2 Titan Doses and planned on giving him a grapple gun to be a more mobile threat.

With 10 rep left to spend I needed a cheap filler in my new list and Prisoner 1 or Pipe prisoner as he is more commonly known fits the bill. Pipe isn't that great at anything but is useful for holding onto loot or sitting on objectives.

The Tournament itself was great  it had only had a small turnout this time around sadly there was another event up North which some of the regulars went to instead. All in all there was 6 players in total.

Crew wise there was myself with a Bane crew, Court of Owls (Pulp Citizen), Birds of Prey team (Kieron) Poison Ivy/Swamp thing crew, a Cyborg/Starfire batman crew and finally another Batman crew with Batman/AK Redhood.

My Crew was as follows

Origin Bane
Ravager + Venom Factory
Venom Soldier + Grapple gun and Venom Dose
Dallas + NVG's and Ammo
Smash
McGregor
Prisoner 4 + Venom Dose
Prisoner 1

Typically of a freshly painted model Ravager died horribly in the first game against a Poison Ivy crew being bashed about by Swamp thing then being finished of by Poison Ivy's Toxic claws.

Jane's Poison Ivy led crew. This was a close fought game resulting in a 23-22vp Draw to me (1-5pts difference). Borj was a nuisance hypnotizing Dallas and Mcgregor then shooting McGregor in the back after walking them both off of objectives. I managed to take Poison Ivy down and Swamp thing was a beast soaking lots of damage with his heal ability.

The Second game was my favourite of the day. I got to play against Kieron's Birds of Prey Team. This is a new way of playing batman crews you can take teams of heroes from a particular list. They can have some extra rules and unique strategies. They are also one of my favourite comics teams and I am planning on painting up my own version soon.

It was Patrol which is a proper slog to my objectives for my slow moving Bane list. I was hampered in my Deployment zone with a large building forcing me to move up around it. It was close fought and they were hard to get to grips with Katana was awesome one shotting Ravager and slaying both my Prisoners. Bane and Venom soldier played kiss chase with Catwoman eventually KO'ing her. Dallas managed to take out the BoP's Leader Black Canary a she tried to Canary Cry him and Smash but he managed to pass his Will Power roll and then ripped her apart with his assault rifle. I lost in the end 25-14.

The final game was a massive defeat against Kris Burton's Cyborg/Starfire combo. I probably shouldn't of ended up playing the top player but with how the games had drawn and the low number of players meant I ended up playing the lead player rather than facing Jane again having already fought her earlier in the day.

I lost this game terribly 45 to 8 or something similar. Kris was using the Bat Signal objective alongside ammo and titan. The Bat signal had been FAQ'd recently allowing it to placed on top of terrain rather than ground base like all the other objectives. It has quite a unique scoring mechanism basically when the controlling side turn it on they score 4 vps a turn and don't have to remain in contact. For every turn it remains switch off your opponent scores 1vp.

Kris was a great opponent (won the tournament) and used his crew really well. The Bat signal was deployed next to Dallas in my deployment zone on top of two cargo containers. Starfire swooped down in round 2 pushed Dallas off and then switching it on. I struggled to get my slow moving crew across the board to my own objectives whilst Cyborg, Starfire and Swat Bravo shot the crap out of my crew. Bane was took out by Starfire as he tried to climb to get to the bat signal objective. My Venom soldier was tied up defending my opponents Titan objective and couldn't get over to the bat signal in time to do much else. Kris managed to keep on the signal for 5 roundss and Cyborg sat on there teams Ammo for 3 rounds netting 20vps and 9 vps something I just couldn't claw back.

Kris agrees the bat signal is too overpowered being able to be installed on top of terrain and being immune to strategies that can affect objective manipulation. A lot of crews like mine just don't have the characters available to them to get up and take on tough mobile characters like Cyborg and Starfire. A lot of heated discussion is going on at the moment as to whether this should be reverted back to its original rules of being on the ground. A tournament held a few weeks earlier was also dominated by Batman crews at the top with the signal.

I finished last in the end but it was another cracking day of gaming against great friendly people.

I am going to try out a Birds of Prey crew next but will also be experimenting with speedsters and my Green Arrow crew.
