The budget in shows why the Federal and the Provincical NDP's need to separate and become truly independent entities.

We already here a constant stream of "but the NDP in BC does the same thing as the conservatives in Alberta" in regards to healthcare because both have mismanaged healthcare for decades... I'm now expecting to see "the NDP in BC supports austerity, why are you not supporting Carney implementing it too?".

When Federal and Provincial political parties share branding each gets painted with the brush of the other, even if they are independent in policy. While this can be beneficial when things are going good, it's a negative when things go bad. Thus if the Federal NDP wants to stand on it's own merits, and not be viewed by peoples opinions on happenings at the provincial level, it needs to both look and be independent.

The BBC says council tax is rocketing because of a “challenging financial position”.

It's actually caused by a decade of austerity, asset stripping and engineered decline.

That is by the fekkin Tory sheetbags!

Once again, we see the same playbook: when "fiscal responsibility" is needed, it's always education, healthcare, and social services on the chopping block. Never corporate subsidies. Never tax loopholes for the wealthy. Never the billions in concessions to mining companies.
Liberals talk about "tough choices" while protecting the comfortable and squeezing the vulnerable. The pattern is crystal clear—austerity for the many, prosperity for the few.

With the Trump administration, the right question to ask is not "When are they lying?" but rather "When are they NOT lying?" Their whole public life is a total lie up to an extent that we really must ask ouselves if we're not dealing with people that are incapable of hearing - nevermind accepting - the truth.

"It should not come as a surprise that Vought, who admitted that his goal is to traumatize federal workers and drastically slash funding for social programs, has institutionalized DOGE in his role as OMB director. From breaking the civil service through mass firings (including the euphemistically named reduction-in-force, or RIF, orders) to unlawfully canceling the disbursement of funds appropriated by Congress (including through so-called pocket rescissions), Vought has been at the forefront of achieving DOGE’s mission.

Of course, this requires understanding that DOGE’s objective was never to save taxpayer dollars. Musk did not “fail,” as some credulously argued, but succeeded in a spectacularly evil goal. DOGE was—and remains, through Vought’s OMB—an effort to extinguish the existing government and create a new one in the image of oligarchs and far-right ideologues. Vought, it’s worth noting, has no issue with a $1 trillion military budget. Climate science, environmental and health regulations, and social welfare spending, on the other hand, are treated as unacceptable impediments to unfettered profitmaking.

It’s easy to see the continuity between Musk’s DOGE and Vought’s OMB when considering their shared method: baselessly claim that something is an example of “waste, fraud, and abuse,” and then take a chainsaw to it. Defunding projects that clash with Donald Trump’s right-wing goals is the through line, and it was presaged in Project 2025."

Able-bodied Canadians (especially Albertans), please take notice: the government of Alberta is stealing money from disabled people and making it even harder to exist while disabled.

Please take action, however you personally see fit to do so.

                      From Inclusion Alberta:

"The Government of Alberta’s decision to claw back the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) – a federal benefit intended to help lift Canadians with disabilities out of poverty – from AISH recipients is punitive, mean-spirited and undermines the benefit’s fundamental purpose. Now, to add insult to injury, they have informed AISH recipients they must apply for the benefit, which requires going through a time-consuming and complex eligibility process that requires applying for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) which often can cost as much as $300, so that, should they be eligible, the government can reduce their AISH by the corresponding amount. This is an unconscionable decision to take money meant to improve the lives of people with disabilities and redirect it to government coffers."

“At the same time as this government is cutting income taxes, it is effectively adding close to 10% tax on disability by clawing back up to $200/month of what would be the combined amount of AISH and CDB,” says Inclusion Alberta CEO Trish Bowman. “What moral justification could there possibly be for leaving Albertans with disabilities to live off less than MLAs receive for their taxpayer-funded housing allowance? To suggest the amount of AISH alone is adequate shows just how out of touch this government has become with the realities of people with disabilities and their families.”

If would be interesting to see the overlap between

                              (a) Sectors where unionization activity and other labor unrest has appeared; and
                              (b) Sectors where the AI maniacs are claiming AI will soon take over jobs

My suspicion is that one of the functions of generative AI is labor discipline: frighten workers so that they stop making demands of employers for fear of losing their jobs or benefits. Labor discipline is a well-documented strategy the powers that be have been using for at least a century for exactly this purpose. Clara Mattei's excellent book and articles on this subject, which I think make this case incontrovertibly.

I don't think it's coincidental that there is so much enthusiasm for generative AI among powerful state and corporate actors despite a corresponding dislike and fear of it among working class folks: that's a common pattern in labor disciplining policies and is how they function. I also don't think it's coincidental that the generative AI rhetoric, and the latest hype cycle, kicked off in the wake of COVID-related state interventions: as Mattei argues, austerity policies are consciously brought to bear on behalf of wealthy capitalists whenever the state is forced by circumstances to take actions benefiting workers. The recent historic rise in unionization activity was met with mass layoffs (read: labor discipline), a rise in interest rates (read: financial pain inflicted on the non-wealthy) and attempts to "cool off" the economy (read: force a bunch of people to become unemployed, another labor disciplining tool). I think generative AI is, in part, an attempt to squash hope and force workers to be docile again through fear and acquiescence, which again is a labor disciplining strategy Mattei has documented is consciously brought to bear by the powers that be.

Therefore it wouldn't surprise me at all to find that (a) is nearly identical to (b), or contained within it.
