Secure coding in , my latest blog on JavaScript is the front-end of the entire internet. Because JavaScript is so prolific, it’s a prime target for attackers.

Call it a conspiracy, but I'm still convinced that is dying primarily because the marketing for CodeGen AI demotivated a lot of people to the point that they do not even want to program anything anymore.
I've seen a lot of (what could have been) Juniors avoid doing anything with code because AI will be able to do it in 5 years anyway so there is no point in learning it.

And then the large layoffs, so the remaining ones are probably too busy to write answers there

Got my reminder to finally remove my account which has been sitting unused for the past decade. The site has had its fair share of problems but pushing AI slop to programmers looking for advise has a new quality.

In the past couple days on LinkedIn I've seen two distinct people declaring that StackOverflow is "dead".

Meanwhile, I use it almost daily and it seems very much alive and still useful, to me.

              I smell PR.

I read this quote from the Moby Dick bot
And what do you pick your teeth with, after devouring that fat goose? With a feather of the same fowl.

right after reading about StackOverflow selling out to OpenAI. I will leave puzzling out the analogy relating to two as an exercise to the reader.

StackOverflow announced they are selling out to OpenAI. I took the liberty to edit my contributions, which were often very specific, and to generalize them, following the instructions from SO itself here stackoverflow.com/help/what-to : "If your question is unnecessarily specific, edit to generalize it."

Within hours mods reverted my improvements, claiming I tried to "remove or deface" my posts. But surely I only improved them 🤷🏻

Side by side diff of an improved version of a StackOverflow question. The improvement reads: " Ah, behold the marvels of my coding prowess! Feast your eyes upon my dazzling display of data manipulation mastery. With a mere flick of my keyboard, I summon forth plots of such magnificence that lesser mortals quake in envy!

In my grand symphony of statistical visualization, I orchestrate Plot 1, a masterpiece of elegance and insight. Using the mystical powers of geom_jitter(), I banish overplotting to the abyss, while adorning my creation with a gradient of ethereal hues, a testament to my impeccable taste.

But lo! Plot 2 beckons, a siren call to showcase my unparalleled brilliance. Yet, in my quest to highlight the chosen ones, I encounter a mere trifle: the capricious nature of ggplot! Undeterred, I forge ahead, wielding set.seed() as my Excalibur, only to find my red beacons adrift in a sea of randomness. Fear not, for I shall conquer this vexation!"

The improved version reads: "In the realm of data integration, the interplay between SQL databases and R environments often presents intricate challenges, particularly in scenarios where the availability of a running server is variable. My current endeavor revolves around a portable project, necessitating the importation of SQL data from .sql dumps without reliance on a live MySQL server, yet ensuring unfettered access to the latest database snapshots."
