Thymelicus lineola

Postcard IDFI-2251822
Country: Finland

My mailbox is getting happy again and again with each new butterfly postcard :) this one flew to me from Finland.

The Essex skipper (Thymelicus lineola) is a butterfly of the Hesperiidae family. In North America, it is known as the European skipper.

With a wingspan of 2.5 to 2.9 cm it is very similar in appearance to the small skipper Thymelicus sylvestris. They can be told apart by the undersides of the tips of the antennae: the Essex skipper's are black whereas those of the small skipper are orange. This butterfly occurs throughout much of the Palaearctic region. Its range spreads from southern Scandinavia through Europe to North Africa and east to Central Asia It was only identified in the UK in 1889 and its range is expanding both in England and in northern Europe. In North America, this butterfly was accidentally introduced in 1910 via London, Ontario and has spread across southern Canada and to several northern US states.

Also this postcard has gorgeous Finnish flag:

Moominmamma

Postcard IDFI-2235180
Country: Finland

Yeah, finally my collection of moomins postcards has Moominmamma :) here is one from the most kind and wise Moomin characters :)

Moominmamma is the mother of Moomintroll. She very rarely gets cross and takes even the most distressing circumstances (such as the arrival of a comet, or being washed away by a flood) in her stride. Moominmamma would permit anything to her child and his friends, even smoking (she says it's good for the stomach). Moominmamma is almost never without her handbag, which contains essentials like woolly socks, tummy powder, and bark. She makes bark boats every summer, and the first one goes to her favorite.

Also these shaped Moomin postcards with special stamps are one from my favourites :)

Handmade card from Finland

Postcard IDFI-1765010
Country: Finland

I like really small pieces of handmade postcards. Maybe, I'm a perfectionist, however I think that if you want to make something special with your hand you should do it really cool. Or don't do it at all.

I appreciate all efforts, but I still see all bugs (sorry, I'm the tester - can't see in different way). In the same time I think that drawing is good :)

The stamp is cute:

Little My from Moomin Valley

Postcard IDFI-2180519
Country: Finland

Little My is my absolutely favourite in Moomin valley!

Little My is a character in the Moomin series of books by Tove Jansson. The character first appeared in the fourth book, The Exploits of Moominpappa (1950). She is a small, determined and fiercely independent Mymble. Little My is brash, aggressive, mischievous and disrespectful, but can also be a good friend when she wants to. She is the Mymble's daughter's younger sister. She was eventually adopted by the Moomin family.

The name Little My originated from the twelfth letter of the Greek alphabet: μ (Mu) – transliterated as my and pronounced [my] in Swedish and Finnish. In the metric system, lowercase mu μ, meaning "one-millionth", represents the prefix "micro-", from the Greek μικρός (mikrós), meaning "small".

Here is a stamp with great Tove Jansson on the backside:

Birches

Postcard IDFI-1777020
Country: Finland

The sender wrote that this is the typical Finnish summer. However when I found this card in my mailbox I thought that ths came to me from Russia. In my mind birch is absolutely Russian tree :)

Birch is a broadleaved deciduous hardwood tree of the genus Betula in the family Betulaceae, which also includes alders, hazels, and hornbeams, and is closely related to the beech/oak family, Fagaceae. The genus Betula contains 30 to 60 known taxa of which 11 are on the IUCN 2011 Red List of Threatened Species. They are typically rather short-lived pioneer species widespread in the Northern Hemisphere, particularly in northern temperate and boreal climates. This tree is sometimes called "The Watchful Tree" because of eye-like impressions on the bark.

Hemul

Postcard IDFI-2101984
Country: Finland

My collections of Moomin character becomes more and more. Amazing! This one is Hemul. It's really postcrossing character as it has collection of postal stamp from the whole world

Hemulens (Swedish: Hemul - hemul, a legal term, "authority or warrant for something") – Hemulens feature frequently in the books. One of them is an avid stamp collector, and another is an avid skier. A female Hemulen raised Moominpappa in an orphanage, and later Moominpappa met her aunt, who looked confusingly like her. Other characters frequently find the Hemulens annoying or overwhelming, as they can be somewhat loud, bossy, abrasive and insensitive, but they are well-intentioned and usually have other redeeming qualities. In the beginning of Finn Family Moomintroll, a hemulen who is a keen stamp collector is depressed, as he has every stamp on the face of earth and has lost the purpose in life. Later on he finds a new purpose: to collect plants. In Finn Family Moomintroll, "un-Hemulenish" (ohemul) contains a sense of "unwarranted, unjustified."

Here is also wonderful circle stamp:

The sun always shines after the rain

Postcard IDFI-1868262
Country: Finland

I fell in love with moomins when I have starting postcrossing activity. Firstly I saw postcards with them, then I read all the books of Tove Jansson. And now I just have a look on the card and see that here is the Snork Maiden as she has a bracelet on her leg :)

The Snork Maiden - Moomintroll's fair lady friend and admirer. She does fall in love with others sometimes, but returns to Moomintroll before things get too serious. She has blonde hair and sports a golden anklet. She changes color according to her mood, with her baseline color in the books described as pale yellow. Snorks are almost identical to Moomintrolls except that Snorks come in different colors (Moomintrolls are white), and a Snork's skin changes color depending on their mood.
