I Brake For....Clown FIsh!

Hello stampers  - Nancy here today!  Do you like shaker cards?  They seem to be all the rage these days.  It's been at least 15 years since I made one.  Techniques come and go in the crafting world and back then we all were doing them and it is nice to see them popular again.  Here is mine!

I've used a stamp called Clown Fish, found here on the IBFS store.  A nice image that has the fish above a little section of sand and coral.  The beads that make up the "shaker part" obscures some of the sand and coral portion - here is a little closer look.

It's been so long since I did a shaker card I had to go back and review the steps.  In my stash of stuff I found a bunch of containers of micro beads - if you've been crafting awhile you remember those teeny, tiny beads used to cover pens.  Well I have a bunch and when I used them on the card here I may have used just a tad too much!  They are so small you don't realize how much you are putting into the card.  And you can't tell, but they are a very light blue.  They look clear in the photo.

I hope you take a stab at creating one of these shaker cards.  They are fun to do!

Hop on over to the IBFS store and check out the thousands of stamps available.  There are so many styles you are sure to find something to love!

I Brake for Valentine's Shakers!

Hello and happy Saturday!!

Today I'm sharing a card that in my opinion, screams Valentine's Day!

There are several stamps in the stained glass series. You can see them all here.
I also used HUGS...KISSES... verse.

I've created a little tutorial to show you how I put the shaker window together.
The first thing I did was to stamp the image twice because you need the bottom full image and then you need the frame on top to hold the acetate on.
I didn't color the full frame on the part that would be on the bottom because it isn't going to show.  I did want to see if I liked the purple color with the colors I used on the image though so I colored a little of it. Once I saw that I liked the color combo I colored the frame for the top.

Next I cut out the inside of the frame with a penblade knife.  I used a metal ruler to make sure my line stayed straight. I used metal because I tried a plastic ruler once and found that the blade was so sharp it sliced thin pieces off the ruler as well as cutting the paper. Lesson learned.

Next, cut out the outside with scissors and measure and cut a piece of acetate to the same size as the frame. It's there...it's just so clear you can't see it...lol.

I used Scor-Tape to adhere the acetate to the frame.

Once the acetate is in place I added my dimensional foam tape.

Fill the shaker window, peel the backing off the foam and adhere the colored and stamped image to it. Flip it over and viola! Your shaker is made.  It's really pretty simple.  I purposely made sure there was a glare on this photo so you could see the acetate that holds your beads in.

I wanted to emboss my paper with some hearts and to make sure enough of them showed I laid the shaker box down and measured how wide and tall I wanted my front panel to be. It also needed to be wide enough to fit the sweet verse on it.

I embossed my paper and added a little extra pop of color with some designer paper.

Here it is without the glare. You can see the colors of the image and beads better in this photo.

On the inside I used BE MY VALENTINE from VALENTINE SHEET -DESIGNS.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and are inspired to try this if you never have.

I Brake for S'Whale Whales!

Hello and happy Saturday!

Today I'm sharing a birthday card I made for my friend.

I decided to create a shaker window card.  The sequins and beads are on the front of the card and you can see through the shaker to the inside of the card where the whale is.  I also used some of the fusible glitter sheets on the anchor.  I just cut a small piece off the sheet and ran it and the die through my Cuttlebug.

Here's the inside of my card with one of the sentiments from the Whale Set.

Here you can see some of the fun shaker elements shaken up a bit.

"Sea" ya later!

I Brake For...Chilling

Greetings everyone, Hannah here! I am really excited to share this card with you!
Have you ever had a stamp that you’ve seen used and then couldn’t imagine any other use for it? That is exactly how I felt about this little monster for quite some time. I’d accidentally seen how another Design Team member utilized this cutie and then couldn’t imagine him in any other card. In the beginning, I struggled with how I thought this card would look.
I took inspiration from the sentiment. It made me think of science, so then I scoured my stash for any science related stamps. I even went to the IBFS website, they’ve got a TERRIFIC background stamp that I strongly considered ordering for this card. You can view it here. Before I spent money I didn’t exactly have I decided to try to think outside the box a little. This is when I discovered a background stamp in my stash that was supposed to be stepping stones. They could be molecules, I could make them appear sort of like little blobs under a microscope! I took that idea and ran with it. The next logical conclusion was to add a shaker element into this card, but I wanted to add water to glitter. After some research, and a lot of trial and error I figured it out.
Hopefully, this card makes you think of what might be going on at the cellular level of this adorable little monster. The interactivity of this card makes it GREAT for kids of all ages, you can shake, press, and move around the water and glitter in this card! I also finished him off using wool fibers on his tale, so it is extremely touchable.

I created this card for the I Brake For Stamps design team. IBFS has over 3000 images in their inventory, both in digital and in rubber stamp format. The rubber stamps are extremely high quality and made here in the USA.

I Brake for Bister Shaker cards!

Hello and happy Saturday!
Welcome to my weekly I Brake for Stamps post.

My niece just celebrated her 17th birthday.
Since she's a little older now I wanted to do something pretty, yet still fun.
I think this suits her perfectly.  She's quite mature now yet still very young at heart.

I used a birthday verse from EVERY DAY PHRASES.
Inside the shaker I used the blue and yellow BISTER STAINS.

This is the same blue bister that I used on a card a couple of weeks ago.
As you can see the original card was almost navy blue.  By simply adding more water to the powder I was able to get this teal look.  Add more powder for a darker look...less for lighter shades.  You can also use the stains to create a water color effect.  Pretty cool results for a tiny little container of powder.  And, although the container is tiny the powder lasts SUCH a long time.  It's so potent that you need only a tiny sprinkle to get some pretty grand results.

I mixed the blue bisters with water as you're supposed to.  I treated the yellow a little differently.  I have a shimmer spray that I thought would be interesting to mix with the Bisters.  I was right.  I sprinkled just a tad of the yellow powder into a plastic palette and then sprayed a bit of the spritz into the dish.  I "scooped" up the liquid with my paint brush and splattered it onto the paper.  I really like the look it created.  It's tough to see the metallic look in the photo but it's very cool in person.

I Brake for Snowmen ..

Hello IBFS fans !!

It's Crystal here and I have a fun shaker Christmas card using Kids Building a Snowman .

isn't this the cutest image , I had to make it into a shaker card with faux snow and silver glass beads and snowflake sequins .

I stamped and copic colored my image on the front base layer of my card

I cut another white front a 1/8" smaller on both side and then die cut a circle from it , I then embossed my layer with a snowflake embossing folder ,now its time to cute two sheet of fun foam slightly smaller than the front top window layer now lay to top layer and trace circle so you know where to cut the circle from both foam layers , now trace a light circle using the front window around the kids , now you glue the fun foam layers around the kids add your snow and sequins and glass beads, then add a sheet of acetate behind the circle cut out window now you can glue on the front panel .I use art glitter glue on all the foam layering and the front to the fun foam, it works great for this. i die cut small snowflakes and the word merry , I used my silhouette to cut & bright from blue vinyl . If you have never made a shaker card, you should really give it a try, I love shaker cards ....

tip ... because I copic colored on my base layer it bleed thru , so to fix I added a layer inside over it but to make it fun , I embossed snowflakes on it first before I covered my bobo , so to correct this just stamp on a layer color and glue to front on card ..haha yep I have made cards many years and I still have time I have to get creative to cover mistakes ... #thestruggleisreal

you can find Kids Building a Snowman and many other great images in the I Brake for Stamps online store .... Happy shopping my creative friends ....
