March 2026 hobby update

Image
March has been a very disjointed month.  We were away for a week in Malta.  Unfortunately, both before we went and on our return there's been some serious family medical business to attend to and normal life has been very disrupted.   I've been left to my own devices for quite a bit of the month, so from the hobby perspective it's been a good month.  To be frank though most of it has been rubbish.  The importance of being able to sit quietly and focus on something that you have control over should never be underestimated.  Completed Here's what I completed during the month: 6mm Iran-Iraq War afvs.  I based up the last four vehicles I'd painted last year.  I'd held off on these as I did consider using them for the Soviet-Afghanistan project but decided they'd be better for the IIW.  I also found a Command stand that just needed the ground texturing so I did that too. 20mm Platoon 20 French Indo-China War Vietnamese.  These were...

April 2025 hobby update

Image
April has been and gone and a third of 2025 with it.  It's been quite a busy hobby month with Salute in the middle, which I've always seen as the start of my hobby year  As much as possible I’ve tried to clear any bits and pieces that have been hanging about for awhile. Completed I finished off the figures I'd started on before going away at the end of March: Six 28mm Victrix Armoured Rus warriors.  That's the last of the Dark Age figures for now and you can see more  here . 28mm Oathsworn Miniatures Burrows & Badgers Kingfisher Warrior and Badger Mage.  The last of my Oathsworn, you can see more here . I also started on the revamp of the 16th C collection.  I rebased some of the figures and added magnets to these and a few others that were already on round 15mm bases.  I've got a fair number to do so I'll just do a few as and when between other jobs over the next couple of months.  On the terrain front I finished: Two 6mm wooded areas.  ...

Midgard bases and tokens

Introduction When I originally bought my 15mm Cromarty Forge Early Imperial Romans and Ancient Germans, I intended to use them for Infamy, Infamy and therefore ordered the correct amount of figures for starter forces.  However, even then I didn't want to be held to a particular game system and I'd decided to base the figures as flexibly as possible.  In reality this meant basing them individually.  And then Midgard came along.  This post details how I have based them to take into account these two rulesets.  Planning I'd tried a number of base sizes and eventually settled on 12.5 mm square bases for all melee (for want of a better definition) troops.  This was large enough so I could still pick the figure up by the base if needed, but still meant they looked relatively tight as a unit.  I used 15mm round ones for all missile troops and characters (leaders, standard bearers etc).   In Infamy, Infamy regular Roman units are based in groups of t...
