Musing Mondays

This week’s musing asks…

What devices –if any– do you read books on? Do you find it enjoyable, or still somewhat bothersome? Or: If you only read the print books, why haven’t you chosen to read on any devices?

No e-readers for me yet. And, quite honestly, I have no desire for one. Give me a real live hold-it-in-your hands book every time. Part of it is that feel of a "real book in my hands" experience...but a big part is also the fact that I spend 80-90% of my day (work and blogging) onscreen. When I read for pleasure, I want it to be a totally different experience from work...and I'm not going to get that if I'm staring at another glowing screen.

I can see advantages. If I traveled more than I do, it would be nice to carry one light-weight e-reader instead of the 10 books I think I need to get by on vacation. I have a friend with vision issues who has just discovered how much she loves to read because she can now change the font to something that is easy on her eyes. That's all good--and I definitely don't see e-readers as evil inventions taking over my hard copy favorites. But e-readers are still not for me.

Musing Monday

Hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading

Today's Question:
Do you have any special reading that you do as it gets closer to Christmas? If so, tell us about it! And, if not, tell us why not!

Um...no. As a few have mentioned, I used to pick out holiday-themed books to read to my son when he was small and he still wanted that sort of thing when he got big enough to read himself. But I don't arrange my reading around holidays. I read whatever I happen to be in the mood for at the time. I do have a couple of Christmas mystery collections by Charlotte MacLeod sitting in my TBR pile that might just happen to get read in the coming months, though. :-)

Musing Monday

Hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading
This week's question: About how many books (roughly) would you say you own? (If you don’t have a clue how many, do you care to know? Why, or why not?)

I own 2173 books. Of those, almost half are mysteries (over half if you count my Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden collections). I have these extensively catalogued on a spread sheet, broken down by genre and duly marked as read when I've done so. (Yes, I'm a little anal about my books and book habits....). I've also logged all the books I've read which aren't mine (or at least I've tried to keep up with that)...starting in junior high.
